  1. There were more than 5x5D cameras. There are a number 16-35 lenses (more than 5) lost and still left in the desert.

They replaced all the blue skyes displaying the trademark banding in post.

Penumbra, do you know anything about how many EP5s were used and which lenses?

  2. I took a look at your films on Vimeo and the colors were uniformly bad. I don't think a different camera will help there. What I do think will help is just learning grading. And learning to shoot. It's way better to shoot with a slightly worse performing camera and trying to make it look good than getting an Alexa and learning nothing.

Unless what you are saying is that "beauty is in the eye of the beholder", which is kinda true. Still.

Disagree about the colors being uniformly bad and your "learning to shoot" comment is ridiculous, condescending, and needlessly rude.

  3. The Sony grass looks really messed up in that comparison. Seems to drift too much towards blue to my eyes and is kind of neon. I'd still prefer the A7s to the GH4 based on all I've seen and read but the GH4 looks much nicer to my eyes in that comparison.

  4. For what I do dynamic range is key

I'm wondering if Sony putting S-Log 2 and XAVC S in the a7S marks the beginning of them putting it in all their future higher end consumer cams. Will they put it in something like the RX200 or is the a7S as low as they'll go? If they put it in the upcoming RX that will be a remarkable camera. Imagine that, a pocket camera that blows away pretty much every DSLR when it comes to dynamic range in video. Sony Alpha Rumors has a post up about a patent for the RX200 lens, 28-100mm f1.8-2.8 OSS. The Japanese companies have been so conservative and incremental in their improvements that they probably won't include S-Log 2. But Sony would make huge waves if they got serious about the RX200 video. It would be a revolutionary camera.

  5. Gorgeous footage. Really loved the low light stuff. Looks fantastic and well put together. One minor quibble is I found the rack focusing in two scenes (with the bells and the chain at the end) a little off putting. Not sure if there was some significance to those shots and I'm just not getting it? Felt to me like you were doing it just caused you could. But that's really minor. Overall I was very impressed. And the fact you did it with the G6, amazing!

  6. What got me thinking about this is a recent post on 43 rumors where Olympus has patented a f1 50mm (equivalent) lens, possibly for an upcoming XZ camera with a 1/1.7" sensor. This would be equivalent to something like f4.5 full frame. Anyway, my ideal camera would be something like this:

    1. Five axis image stabilization (Olympus just introduced this with their inexpensive SH1, 5 axis image stabilization is possible on the smaller cameras)

    2. a m43 sensor in a body no bigger than the GM1

    3. paired with the Olympus 25mm f1.8 as the kit lens

    4. has something like cinelike d or s-log 2

    5. mic and headphone jacks

  7. Im up for moderating a section on lenses and lighting ,

I'll even film examples to post on intersting topics people can do ,

    if anyone is interested?

Yes please. And if there's someway to have two fairly comprehensive first posts on lenses and lighting pinned to the top of your section, as a sort of primer, that would be great. And I hope there will continue to be room for disagreement on the forum, as long as people don't act like jerks.

  8. Andrew, when you say, "In preparation for the potential change over the next few weeks I will name the top quality people on here. Those who contribute interesting and cool stuff to the forum..." I took that to mean primarily pros/experts. Those are the people I've tended to learn the most from, folks like the fellow who shot with the RX100s for Mtv (can't remember his name!) or jcs, etc.

  9. And I don't mean that to sound harsh, I still appreciate all you've done Andrew, I'll continue visiting the main EOSHD site, that's where I spend most of my time. There's so much sniping and meanness on the board lately, not good. People always complaining and attacking you. It gets old. Like I said, I totally understand your exasperation. Just, if I can't post, I'll probably spend more time on other sites where I can continue to post.

  10. I think you're gonna end up offending a lot of your readers who don't make the cut and might negatively impact your traffic. My guess is most of us who visit your site aren't professionals, we're looking to learn. In a way, you're saying our thoughts don't matter going forward, only those of your handpicked experts. People are bound to be offended. I partially understand why you want to limit the posters, you've had to put up with some really cruel and unfair comments. It's your forum, do what you think is best for you and your sanity. But I probably won't be spending too much time on any forum that won't allow me to post or makes noobs feel unwanted/unwelcome.

  11. I certainly understand being frustrated by some of the people who act like jackasses but if you limit this forum to a small number of posters the usefulness for me will go way down. I'd rather you just ban the idiots who come on here to insult people and act religious about their cameras, flying off the handle anytime someone disagrees with them. Anyway, I think I understand where you're coming from, I just think it would be a terrible move, at least from my standpoint. But it's your forum, do what you think is best for you. I mean, given the unfair abuse you've taken from some of these ungrateful pricks, I can see why you would want to limit it to those you consider informed and constructive posters. But you're gonna end up alienating, or at least excluding, a lot of good posters who are wanting to learn.

  12. I'd still prefer it to the GH4 if it was a similar price. The high ISO is incredible and I suspect the dynamic range will be very good. But at $3,000+, GH4 all the way. The guy from Atomos said it would be paired with the Shogun for under $5,000 and he said the Shogun is going to be about $2,000. The guy who shot the footage that was released to the public mentioned he thought they were going to go for around 5D MkIII pricing, so I'm going to guess $3,299 for the A7s.
