One word: Insanity!
Just freaken insanity. What will this do to future DSLR camera releases? I truly believe that Canon played their cards right and threw us a hidden gift. There's no way they didn't know ML would eventually figure it out. Perhaps that's the reason why the only major upgrade to the 5D3 was the Digic 5.
Come on Canon, come clean!

The Cinema EOS line would not suffer. Which pro with $$$$$ to spend needs a hack? They need reliability. They need ergonomics. They need standardisation. Image quality is important but only one factor. Canon are wrong if they think DSLR video will cannibalise their C300 and C500. Maybe the 1D C would suffer... But I can't see someone like Philip Bloom selling his C300 and going back to a DSLR + Magic Lantern just for image quality.
For the creative bandits like us who just want world beating image quality and are willing to be brave, the hack is perfect.
You got a point . . . . The "Creative Bandits" reference was good.

You know, I always wondered why Canon just did not improve on the 5D3 after such a long time since the 5D2 came out. Could Canon have foreseen a hack to unlock the true imaging potential of the camera?
It begs the question: Was Canon just throwing us a hidden gift with the 5D3?

I don't see how they can intervene other than encrypt firmware on new bodies leaving the factory and even then they shouldn't, because if this raw video hack takes off sales of 5Ds will go THROUGH THE ROOF.
Indeed what is the point of the 1D C I have asked myself that many times!!
That is true. I was also going to say that if A1ex and the guys can pull this off, they will have single handedly jumpstarted a stagnant Canon dslr line. But their Cinema line may suffer. It'd be interesting to know what Canon thinks of all this?
I guess the Black Magic may have a competitor after all ! . . .

I´m just asking... So, cloud it be possible to get rid of the weird process the camera is doing and record a very high quality image direct from the DNG to a H.264 video?
Well, I think Canon might intervene at that point. What would be the point of the 1DC?
BIG NEWS - Hands on with CONTINUOUS raw recording on Canon 5D Mark III

Perhaps because 80% of independent filmakers can't afford a 1Dc ?
