  1. Oh nice, Bernie will do a good job, my taking lens was really stiff and squeaky, its really nice now. Let me know how it goes with the close focus, if your lens was like mine do a relube too if he is willing. That was what he seemed apprehensive about for some reason.

  2. Tomm

Mine is at Van Diemen at the moment - and I wouldn't advise on sending it to them - unless you can do without it for at really loooong period.

I was quoted 60 days, and that time frame was exceeded 90 days ago. So they have had it for 150+ days now. I've contacted them several times, and everytime there is a new issue - metalwork, anodising, not enough parts etc. The last time I checked, I was told it would be done on the 12th this month. Now they're a part short, and because of holidays - that will mean a further delay.

So if im lucky - I will have it back sometime in August. Unless the only guy who can assemble it breaks his arms - and with my luck... Who knows?

I know it will probably return super über cool, and function a lot better than before, checked from a to z, but it's the huge delay that nags me, and not knowing when it will return. So be warned - updates, deadlines and customer care - doesn't seem to be among their forces.

Tommy sorry to hear you are still waiting man, lets hope August is the month!

  3. I just got my m42 mount lens that came with my isco back from him. It squeaked when moving the aperture to 2.8 and now its just like new. The turn around was great and both Bernie and Julie are awesome. Not sure about the close focus but he may come up with something if you push him enough. It seemed like he was reluctant to do anything to the anamorphic attachment so I sent it to DSO after I had sent the other end to him.

  4. Thats my thoughts, I cant send mine in there for that kind of waiting period. Hopefully this helps, Rich did it very fast for me if thats any more help. I'd have a heart attack drilling into the side of this lens.

  5. I got mine relube by by the guys at DSO, it was fast and their rate is fine but I got raped at customs for import they wouldnt recognize it was just being repaired....but its silky smooth and they did the close focus mod ith a new stopper while they had it too!

  6. I signed up on your forum, I didnt know so much was hidden till I signed up and then there it all is. Great work, I know if you crack raw on the D7000 / 7100 it should follow to the others. The D800 and D4 are great because of the large buffers, write speeds and DR. Whatever I can do to help I will, I owned a D4 for a bit and have a d800...Im also NPS so I can get access to a lot of their gear but I dont know about loading on custom firmware on NPS loaners lol

I just hate not being able to help out...

  7. The 2 nikon versions ran me around 286GBP that was shipping as well. Then I paid a bit more to get custom rings made to match the lens that I use to mount to the iscorama and sometimes as a lens hood. I like my lenses a lot but I would recommend going for the brushed metal finish. I didnt want to think about it till I saw some badass photos of them. Im also really wanting an Fmount Trump but I have to wait a bit, its hard cause I would like a full matching set of these....kinda addicted to cool lenses.

  8. Yes please this will most likely hinder the progress then help it. I feel for you but really want raw on the D7000 series, d800 and D4. Really Raw with that XQD or with the DR or the D800 would be ridiculous. Id like to say if anyone needs testers or any help I can give I would do whatever. If this is supporting Nikon hacker or vitality, it seems the only way is to get a bunch of people on board so how do make this happen.

  9. Hey Andy, I have seen those on ebay. I didnt like the results he first had up but some of his new photos on that listing seem a bit better. I cant seriously knock it till Ive tried it or seen a serious review.

I think the difference for me is the fact that I got to know Rich and Hans through the community here and know they are film makers actually manufacturing lenses so it wasnt a surprise that these were built quite well, but again I dont know who this other person is and if its just a blatant poorly done knock off or someone who is actually putting the time and love into the lenses they are producing.

OH I just read this as well be aware that the NIKON version is just including the M42 - Nikon adapter. This is not the same mod that DSO does. In order to reach infinity there is quite a bit of careful grinding that needs to be done so you can rotate enough and not hit the mirror. These other lenses will NOT reach infinity.
  10. Thanks Paulio and Dahlfors, IM glad you found it helpful. Im doing more reviews on my gear and some post techniques to get the most out of dslr and comp trick etc. I learned so much from this forum I'll try to fin appropriate places to share but keep an eye out. Im kinda doing reviews from the post stand point. Trying to get the most out of cameras and on set to use creatively after the fact.

  11. Thanks man, They are working on more options I plan on getting a complete kit from them. A 35 would be sweet I do own the Mir 24N and it is a sweet lens. I believe this is probably the one they would use for a DSO 35 but i cant confirm that. They have a new lens called the Trump which is really interesting as you can swap apertures, tints etc and is based off the same Russian 58mm. I have also seen a prototype posted somewhere of a 35mm Trump out there.

  12. Hi All, I just finished a big review of the Flare Factory 58 lenses from Dog Schidt Optics. You can read the full review here http://www.robbannister.com/blog/

The mandatory cat test was shot with the Neutral FF58 and the iscorama and the other video with the Amber FF58 is not with the anamorphic because I had sent it off for the close focus mod. Though the Amber version pairs really well with the iscorama and you can see a small sample of that at the end with the car.

  13. 2x is nice for the painted background feeling, oval bokeh etc and would be very usefull on proper 4X3 sensor with the ability to single focus. I think owning the isco for personal stuff with a kowa to experiment (my setup as well) is a good way to go. Then I know what im getting into when renting 2X anamorphics when shooting features I guess. If I could own a proper set of lomo's, kowas or beyond into the hawks I would but life hasnt thrown tons of money my way yet. I would absolutely love a 2X anamorphic version of the iscorama or similar an Id pay about the same price for it too, maybe 3k-5kish if it was really nice (those hawk 74's looked amazing)

Anyways my iscorama modded by rich is on its way back and I'll see how well I can get it to rack.

  14. yeah you kinda get the hang of when you have gone too far on either lens. They kinda stretch the lines that should be in focus horizontally then get close and go vertically, Like if you watch for it you can tell when you are at the sweet spot for each lens even if its not in focus yet. Goes horizontal, then vertical back to the pot then move the opposite lens and what he said trying to match distance. You get better with practice.

  15. I had this or reverse vignetting as well. Its just the way the light is bouncing around the surfaces of the lens or in between the two of them. The only way I solved it was getting a custom helios taking lens from Rich here or DSO dog schidt optiks. The way he tested and made me custom rings for the lens was what did it. I dont get this issue anymore at all. Maybe there is a better solution but there is nothing like getting someone who also owns an iscorama to build and test out a proper taking lens for you.

  16. I didnt notice tat I liked everything but the casing seq like people mentioned. Shaky camera has its place but it was just a little overboard on this one. On a budget my way to get around this is by mounting the camera in the back of a hatch back and driving. Worked well on a dino chasing seq we did for fun.

But anyways I like the dark mood and that you showed just enough..the anamorphic looked great as well.
