1. Comments on Vimeo indicate the slow motion was shot on a FS700. I find that very interesting since I didn't notice any shift in image quality between the shots.
 2. Wait... All the shots say they were shot at 1080p. Did anyone notice some of them that were 4k? If it's just shot in 1080p it's going to just look the same as the 1DX right?
 3. I don't know how I feel about 16mm sized sensor. It's not just a little but smaller, it's a LOT smaller. Here's my GH1 compared to my Beaulieu. It's like point and shoot size: Note too that the Beaulieu body is being propped up in front of the GH1 and as a result, is closer to the lens. So, it's actually even a tiny bit smaller in comparison. Most of my first jobs in the film industry where shot in 16mm. I own a Beaulieu and a Bolex but they haven't seen film running through them in over 15 years. I sold all my C-mount lenses too so they are really just completely useless to me at this point. Anyway, I remember the first time I shot 35mm film. It was a stop-motion animated shot for commercial. It was stunning. Even though it had been transferred to SD video, you could easily see the difference between 16mm. There was just so much more detail and color. Even on video! Now a days 16mm stock is so much more advanced. A friend of mine shot a bright eyes video with some of this newer stock and I really couldn't tell that it was shot on 16mm. So, I don't know. I mean, obviously possible to get amazing looking footage out of smaller cameras ("Beast of the Souther Wild" and "Moonrise Kingdom" just recently) but I just don't know... [edit] Sorry for the crappy iPhone photo.
 4. I think it's seem pretty obvious to me now that the BMCC soundly trounces the DSLRs. But, what I want to see now is how it stacks up against the higher end cameras like the C300, Scarlet, Alexa, etc. I keep hearing that it's a baby Alexa but then everyone seems to keeps referring to it as a "B" camera or that it's not meant for Pro filmmakers. I'd like to see someone back those points up with some footage. So far everything I've seen suggests that it's every bit as good as the higher end cameras. Maybe the rolling shutter is a bit worse but other than that, I can't visually see anything that makes the footage look unprofessional. Quite the contrary to my eyes. And yeah, I totally agree about how good the GH2 look in these test. It's clearly the best DSLR for video out of the bunch. Just under the BMCC (in ProRes) in quality. Such an amazing bargain!
 5.
Bikinis in November in Berlin? Erm I will try my best :) We're going to do more studio based tests with proper actors. I'm bored of scenery.
Yay Finally!
 6. Interesting... Do you know what this "CR podcast" is?
 7.
Not angry, just starting to become very annoyed. They have 19 working days left of the year to pass quality control on the new glass, ramp up the production line and then ship thousands of cameras around the world. I personally think that is a tall order and can't see it happening till the end of January 2013 at the earliest. As for Grant's updates i would have to disagree on the detail part. They lack the most important details of dates and potential volume, so even though we know about the problem we're still stuck in the dark about when these things are going to ship and how many they can ship. That's the thing i only care about now.
Well, I have to disagree with you there was well. Mentioning dates is what got them into this mess in the first place. The biggest mistake that Grant and co. made was assuming that the sensor manufacture could deliver as promised. At this point, I think it's pretty clear that this is under some suspect. If they were to tell you that they can get up to speed and make so many cameras per day and that you can expect you camera by a specific date, can you imaging the amount of outrage and utter furry they would face if that date or capacity slipped? And, at this point, with all the delays and manufacturing issues, how could you even answer that question reasonably? No, I think explaining the known facts not giving anymore "projections" based on assumptions is the best they can possibly do at this point. I'm really sorry you're annoyed and I don't blame you. It's normal to feel that way in this situation and I think it's fine to blow off some steam too. I just don't like it when people place blame in the wrong place or don't think things through all the way. Most companies wouldn't tell you a thing other than issuing a lawyer written public statement. I'm sure this isn't going to make you feel any better but if I were you, I wouldn't expect to see your camera until after the first of the year. Probably mid January if everything goes "Perfectly".
 8. Ahhh. No, that was a typo in my head. Sorry. I must have transposed CCD and CMOS in that interview.
 9. The video does look very good. But I was sure it would long ago. ;-) About the rumor, where is this info coming from?
 10.
CMOSIS, who are supplying Leica their cutting edge full frame sensor in the new M rangefinder (I suspect it is this chip, the CMV20000) say the sensor is currently sampling.
It couldn't be that one because as stated here: http://www.eoshd.com/content/9060/the-new-leica-m-as-a-filmmakers-tool-an-interview-with-leicas-jesko-von-oeynhausen The sensor in the new M is a CCD.
 11.
It requires me to do what is for me a lot of processing with my limited skills and limited software. I'd get a used t2i and be done with it except I need something that can: A. Go full auto when needed. B. Be small enough to use for my POV projects (right now I'm using a cellphone).
Go Pro? My friend Jim Makes these: http://www.lifeisunruly.com
 12. I wonder if we'll see adaptors for common camera battery types like Canon and Sony? Like how you can sometimes use those batteries with HD monitors. That would be pretty cool.
 13.
Far less of an issue for me personally for it not to be active but I agree that if they can they should. For me personally, the only bone of contention is being told at IBC that cameras had started shipping. That is something that was a bit naughty really. It wasn't particularly good form to be announcing a new version of something that was already several months late, particularly with it being a more desirable product for many people, but with the differential in delivery time it wasn't a major issue. Just bad luck for them that whilst the chickens have not exactly completely come home to roost they are certainly wandering back to the coop at quite a lick !
Yeah, I guess I can understand that. If you were told that they were shipping cameras by someone on the show floor, then yes, that's not to cool. I wonder if they were considering the fact that they had shipped out some cameras to reviews and such as meaning that they were indeed shipping? Just a thought. I just keep thinking that they were totally ready to ship cameras. The hardware development was done and everything was ready to go. They had even been receiving small batches of sensors from the manufacturer and assembled quite a few cameras without any errors. If you go back to some of the earlier messages from Grant you can see that it wasn't until later that they started receiving bad batches of sensors. And even then, some of them where good. So, I would think that they assumed that if they just keep bugging them, they would eventually receive good ones. That's the part where things get really weird. The sensor maker actually switched companies who fussed the glass to the raw sensor just as they went into production. So, it was kind of a bait and switch thing. BMD didn't have any reason to believe that they were going to start receiving bad sensors because up until this point everything had been going great. And, it wasn't until just recently that they even tracked down the problem and found out about the switch. Obviously, the sensor manufacture is totally at fault here. I can only assume that the show floor guys who you talked to either didn't know about the issues and just said what he assumed was true or, he was a bad egg who was just trying to get your money. I'm hoping it was the first one. ;-)
 14.
You can have incremental backup on Norton Ghost. I am using on demand backup. But try it yourself - it is free to make a back up copies. You need a serial number (buy it) to restore a system or files. I do not know if this program is the best on the planet. I am using it for couple of years and I do not need anything more. By the way, backup and recovery is a must have tool. Should be a part of a system.
Yeah, this is why I love time machine on the Mac. It just comes with OSX and has a very simple, intuitive yet extremely powerful interface... Oh crap! I said I wasn't going to say anything more about Mac and PC! Sorry! Uh... Yeah, BMCC! Can't wait for the next installment of BlackMagic Cinema Camera review! Yay! ;-)
 15.
what about his constant canon wise mudslinging contest. you see 1 side not the other.
Tomekk, this is Andrew's site. It's all about this own opinion. A lot of people come and read his opinion because they value it. It's alright that you don't agree with him (lord knows not everyone does) but seriously, take a look at your tone here. It really reads like you have come here to fight. I'm just saying as an outsider looking in, this looks like really belligerent and disrespectful behavior. If this is not the way you intended to come off, Then I suggest you try a different approach. Just remember, Andrew pays the rent here. If you really find his opinions that offensive then I honestly think you are at the wrong site. The main reason I come to this site and post so much here is because on the whole, I find the tone to very friendly. Even when people disagree, I rarely see arguments turn into personal assault wars. I really value that about this place because of that.
 16.
...Norton Ghost.

... Acronis true image
Do these programs actually do incremental backup on the hour? I thought this was just for ghosting your hard drive so you could go back to come state later in time? Not trying to be snarky, I'm asking honestly because I don't know. Anyway, I'm not going to go any further into this Mac vs Windows argument because really folks, this is totally played out. It's foolish to try and convince anyone who has already made a decision about one platform over the other. I know it's fun to sling mud at each other but this is really getting boring. And really folks, at this point in time Windows and Mac have never been more similar. So it's seem to me more a personal preference then anything. While I choose Mac over PC, I can understand how someone would pick Windows. Usually it's based on saving money or keeping compatibility with something they do for work or even just playing games. I get it. I have to use PC's all the time for my 3D animation work and I get it. Can we please, please move on?
 17.
Thanks for all the feedback guys. In order of importance what do you think is most critical to you? Single focus barrel (not dual focus like Kowa) OR adaptable to different primes?
Oh no, do we have to pick either or? I though if it was an attachment that just screws onto a prime, that would it work just fine. Is that not the case?
If the adapter cost for example around $1000 (I just made this up, nothing to do with actual pricing as this is not decided on yet) and was dual-focus would you buy it?
No I don't think I would. While I realize that LA7200's are about $1200-$1400, but I was hoping SLRMagic would make an entry level anamorphic adaptor for us indy-filmmakers. I would actually much rather have it be a little less sharp and pay a lower price. Maybe we are really talking about two different products: One that is for entry level cheapskates and one that is for those who demand the highest quality? I can totally understand if you had already bought tons of anamorphic lenses and you just want the one that will finally be the best of all of them, that you would pay a premium. However, I don't have deep pockets.
 18.
I love it, congratulations on the look achieved. I'm intrigued by lenses you used coupled to AglA7200. I have read Nikon AIS, but which? Thanks, I'm starting with my newly acquired AG and'm crazy with lenses and Close Ups. Assembling QuickHitRecord is the best idea I saw so far. Sorry for my English translator of google.
Thats from google translate?! It did a pretty good job. What's your native language?
 19. Did they ever mention how many MP the VG-900 sensor is?
 20.
No arguing the concept is brilliant, but 4 months and still no mass production is an absolute disaster of a release. Since the end of July its been week after week of problems.
I love how everyone has been treating this like they haven't been letting us know what's up the whole time. Like Grant hasn't been disregarding expected industry norms by giving us regular reports (and they are ridiculously in-depth!) every time he knows something. Get a grip people. I understand you are angry because you want your camera and you want it now but have a little compassion. This is not some kind of debacle where people are sneaking around trying to keep things secret because they are worried that it might cause a fuss. I for one feel that they have been up-front and caring the whole way through. I don't know any other company that would give a damn enough to keep us all in the loop like they have. Geez guys. And think for just a second what it must be like on their end. You think it's fun waiting around for a week for some company to send you samples only to find that they are bad... over and over?
 21. Okay so if they could make an adaptor like the LA2700 but have it still be sharp at wide open and be made with DSLRs in mind, we would be good? (that's what I would want)
 22.
GH2 sensor is 18MP total to support multiple aspect ratios.
Okay, I see what you are talking about. Not that it matters (I didn't even know this myself until I looked it up) but, according to this image: It looks like the full sensor might be 18MP but the different aspects only use a reduced area of it so in 16:9 it's only 13.9MP.
 23.
Under the circumstances (basically the myth that there would be a 4-5 month advantage to sticking with the EF mount) , I'd very much like to see Blackmagic offer the option to switch an order to MFT without joining the back of that particular queue.
They seem like reasonable people. You should bring this up with them. To be honest, I almost pre-ordered when they announced the MFT mount. And I go through this every few weeks now, "Should I order one? No, I should't order one." Aside from it being a finical hardship at the moment, I decided to wait for them to get all the kinks ironed out. I also have a feeling that the "passive" MFT mount is just a phase. I really think they will release an active one. I mean, think of all those Panasonic lenses that are focus by wire. You simply will not be able to use those due to the focus mechanism requiring power. I'd rather wait for that for an active mount if that's in the cards.
 24. LOL! I think the next big advancement in in digital cinema is better acting! Seriously guys! I watch short films and low budget features all the time on the web and the biggest complaint I have about so many of them is bad, bad, bad acting! I can't tell you how many films I've started to watch and thought, 'Wow, this looks pretty good' but as soon as someone opens their mouth it's like... Ugh! Seriously? You expect me to sit through this? Actually, as far as my tastes go, give me good acting over some mind blowing amazing concept any day. And I'm not talking about amazing earth shattering acting that makes you cry either. Just enough to make me believe the characters are real and they are actually feeling what they are trying to get across. I guess this is kind of a sore subject for me since I've been trying in-vain to find good actors here. ;-) [EDIT] Now that I think about it, I think most people would rather watch good acting shot of DV then bad acting shot on an Alexa.
