1. - (Please notice all the moire throughout this edit with the BMC footage) If you like a tiny(relative to full frame) sensor, moire and aliasing, terrible form-factor, limited internal battery, poor touch control and a hard-to-see lcd screen, the choice is clear, go with the BMC. The slight increase in resolution is moot when there's moire all over the place. Also, in lowlight the BMC stands zero chance up against the 5D3.
2. http://***URL removed***/forums/thread/3455509   Do you remember seeing this rumor about the 7D2? "Video ‘stills burst’ mode 30/60 fps"   Do you think this would be a similar concept where Canon would offer a few seconds of high resolution video? Kind of like the GoPro3's 15fps 4K mode?
3. Looks incredibly detailed. Definitely needing image stabilization in the lens to help with that jello.
4. "I think I'm going to pick up a C300 for $16,000 instead of the $4,000 4k BMC," said no one ever. Cannot believe a 4 grand camera outclassed Canon's ENTIRE cinema line. What a joke. Time to step it up Canon. You now actually have to try hard.
5. Damn, they're stepping it up big time! Super 35 4k for $4,000?? Who the hell is going to buy the original BMC? ha.      Wow, I officially am going to buy this one. I love what Blackmagic is doing to the industry and how they are really pushing things forward. Really refreshing to see a company put their best foot forward and not just pump out 1080p cameras left and right that no one cares about.   What is every other camera manufacturer thinking right now besides what the fuck do we do now? Canon's ridiculously priced 8 bit 4K 1DC is going to be bought by no one when you could buy 3 of these for the same price and it shoots RAW!!!    Wow, this is a legit game-changer if this camera is real.
6. The opening shots from the helicopter are jerky as shit and so is the cab shot that everyone is so gaga about. I don't get it. You need an army of people to use and operate the thing effectively, so it's not like you're showing up to a shoot by yourself and using this.   The spiral stairwell case shot could have been pulled off flying a Glidecam and a DSLR upside down without a doubt. Even if it weren't possible, it's not like that shot was all that riveting staring at her out of focus shoulders while wobbling down the stairs with the camera operator's shadow coming into the scene(which happened a few different times).    Vinny Minton would have absolutely gotten a smoother and more precise shot during the cab scene with a simple Glidecam.   This blows away all of the footage shot with this "game changer" and it's a $500 Glidecam operated by one person - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_YvfX7D8MXI   For tight spaces and some helicopter work (albeit the footage examples from the helicopter were quite poor at times), I see this as a useful tool. I would not call this a "game changer" and compare it to the level of game change that the 5D2 brought on, that is quite absurd.

8. "NASA replied that they would love to catapult a bunch of 7Ds from the earth and send them hurtling into a dark oblivion but countered that the Cinema EOS range had done that anyway."   BAHAHAHA
9. 60D+ Mosaic anti-aliasing filter + Magic Lantern = better than all of these "new" releases from Canon
10. I've heard rumors and speculation of a crop mode, much like that of the 1DC's S35 mode and the 3x crop mode of the T3i, that is said to show up when Canon releases their anticipated firmware update for the 5DIII. Canon has clearly demonstrated the ability to sample smaller parts of a sensor to obtain highly detailed/sharp video with little to no aliasing, so I really hope they step it up and offer a crop mode.    The dynamic range and 8 bit codec will still be less than desired but at least we'd have the option to record highly detailed video and make use of the longer focal lengths/deeper dof when needed.    What's everyone think? Are they just releasing this firmware to mask the fact that Magic Lantern was about to find out the camera was outputting less than the full resolution as advertised? Maybe they will release a Canon log picture profile specifically for the 5DIII?
11. Highlights look really bad in this clip. Viewing on a 15" Macbook Pro Retina. A lot of FS700 footage I've seen has issues with the highlights clipping hard to super white. Check this excerpt out and see if you think this would help you in any way.    "One of the well documented issues or at least something that gives people problems is highlight clipping. This isn’t just an FS700 problem, but the AVCHD recordings from the FS100 and FS700 are particularly prone to getting clipped. You go out and shoot something and which looks great, but then when you get the footage into the edit suite it looks clipped and highlights look blown out, especially in any rendered clips or clips with effects applied. There are a couple of reasons for this. The first is that in the majority of setting the FS700 like most pro video cameras (EX, F3 etc included) records up to 109% (data bits 16 to 255). In the video world white is bit 235 (940 in 10 bit) or 100% and this is supposed to be your maximum with 104% typically allowed for broadcast. Anything above white is known as a superwhite. In the computer world white is bit 255. The second issue is that different edit applications handle white differently. Some will allow the full range of 0-109% without any clipping, some will clip anything above 100% and worst of all, some will do either depending on the codecany filters applied and other factors, so you often never really know where you stand."   - http://www.xdcam-user.com/2012/07/what-to-do-if-your-highlights-look-clipped-fs700-in-particular-but-applies-to-many-cameras/
12. Looks good. Love how the BMC holds onto the highlights so well.
13. Canon is slowly going into damage control mode after their reluctance to innovate at the 5DIII price level. They surely are feeling the heat from other competitors and long time customers. Their Cinema line has alienated everyone who fell in love with Canon DSLR's for video and it's a shame. They had the chance to completely squash the competition and run away with the top market share but instead, they became too busy worrying about how to protect their outrageously priced Cinema line by deliberately crippling cameras and limiting features that should have been there from the start. Is it that fucking hard Canon? We all want a DSLR that has an articulated screen, resolves over 1000+ lines, includes multiple frame rates at FULL 1080p (24,30,50,60) possibly even a 720p mode at 120fps, dual card slots, manual audio control with levels on screen, maybe even XLR inputs on a separately sold grip, and clean HDMI with 10 bit 422 out. These are specs that today in 2012 should already be out in a $3,000-$5,000 camera. $15,000 for a 1DX with a firmware update and some extra metal heat sinks is absolutely ridiculous. Looking forward to someone taking apart both the 1DX and 1DC to reveal what really is going on internally that makes them so different and worth the $7,000 premium.
14. Still no sample footage from anyone who has received their BMC... Strange that no one can put out anything besides a few frames of RAW files.
15. I find it interesting that a ton of people have received their BMC cameras and have yet to upload any sample footage. Editing RAW video isn't exactly a simple process and I couldn't imagine editing 3 or more RAW video layers in a single project that required a quick turnaround. The frame grab from Sebastian looks pretty amazing and am looking forward to seeing what he has shot.
16.
Most modern video cameras (the non cinema type) have a 1/3-2/3 inch chip which is smaller than the bmc. Not that it actually matters at all because you are trolling, but just wanted to throw that out there.
Modern "Cinema" cameras. Having a different opinion isn't trolling Remsy_Atassi.
17. I'll drink the BMC Koolaid when the sensor size isn't blown out of the water by most modern video cameras. It simply isn't a camera for low light wide angle work. Raw is amazing to edit with and there is no doubting that. I'm glad the progress this camera has forced on the industry, but a more all around camera with my current set of lenses that I've invested thousands of dollars in is what I'm waiting for. I'm sure the success of this camera will lead to bigger sensors in the future and I'm looking forward to it, but for now, locked off telephoto, closeup, well lit work with manageable DOF will be what this camera is all about.
SLR Magic 12mm f1.6 isn't natively supported right now, but adapters will find their way, and I think you'll be fine. Don't worry.
Little bit worried... SLR Magic lenses aren't know for their superior optics.
18.
The actual resolution and sharpness of this camera are what I'm most concerned.
I feel a lot of people are going to be let down by the resolution of this camera. So far all of the test footage looks not much sharper than Canon's current round of DSLR's. Maybe a touch sharper than everything except the 5DIII with sharpening in post. Even if the Blackmagic camera turns out to be a fail it will still be a sucess as it will bring a lot of attention to the sub-$6,000 market and push other manufacturers in their quest to make something truly professional for that price or less.
19. I saw some rolling shutter and soft resolution on the wide shots in the Radball edit but as you said this is all highly compressed, so the resolution observation may be incorrect. Didn't see any noticeable aliasing or moire, so that's awesome.
