1. The slow motion and resolution are just awesome.  The shot of the London Eye (huge ass ferris wheel?) is just spectacular!  Wow!  Thank you Sony!  Finally everything we want and more!  I better order that metabones adapter now.  At least I can use my canon glass.  Wonder how long I'll hold onto my 5dmkIII...
2. Katon - not sure who you're preaching to.  I have a GH2, 5d mkII and 5d mkIII and they all fit together.  Using the right lens you can get a more "filmic" look on the GH2 without having to sacrifice resolution.  You can get some old Leica glass that produces some gorgeous "filmic" video on the GH2 and I'd bet you wouldn't know the difference. Just look at Andrew's test for what it is - just a test.  And cameras are just tools for filmmakers.  I think Johnnymossville and Per Litchman are both right.  Quote whoever you want, but you can get good results with any camera.
3. Big +1!!!  I'm still disappointed with the crap internal codec.  Guess an external recorder is a must.  But holy smokes no other camera under $20K has so much potential.  If this thing is low-light sensitive monster like the FS100 then we are in for a real treat.  Time to sell my car too!  Hehehe
4. GH2 still resolves so much detail!  Wish we could hack the NEX because it looks like the compression is what holds it back.  Can't wait for Sony's new full frame camera and what it might deliver.  Then again the FS700 might be all we ever need!  These are very very interesting times indeed!  And great lens test too!  Now we can map the surface of Mars from your house! LOL
5. Now we are talking.  No more BS from Canon or Nikon.  It's the big time with this bad boy.  At long last Sony steps up and delivers the goods we've all been asking for and more.  Where's the preorder option??  8)
6.
Try turning off in-camera sharpening, use IPB mode (it's higher quality than the current I-frame implementation), and sharpen in post with a convolution filter ("Sharpen" in PPro: GPU accelerated). I have analyzed my 5D3 footage and this should produce the highest quality results. Will post example and hopefully a better resolution chart shortly (see charts here: http://www.eoshd.com/comments/index.php/topic,440.0.html#d2).
JCS I look forward to more info from you.  Can't wait to get my 5DmkIII and try out your settings!  Thank you!
7. I think people forget that Canon is a Japanese company, and as such they still adhere to the old Japanese HD standard of 720p.  For them that is their target.  Andrew's analogy to Toyota is correct and very much how the Japanese think.  Why fix something they can milk forever?  Just keep selling incremental improvements and people will keep buying.  But the market has changed and Canon are now far far behind.  If this camera came out 3 years ago, we would have accepted it with open arms and no complaints.  How technology accelerates and now with much better cams, including dedicated camcorders have emerged.  In the end people need to remember that these are tools and as such use the right tool for the job.  If that's the 5DmkIII, or FS100, or whatever, then use it.  In the end it's about what you do with the tools that is important. Thank you for the honest review Andrew!  I always look forward to all your opinions on gear and tech talk!
8. This does look really nice.  Can't wait to get my hands on a 5dmkIII!
9. Just saw the ISO 12500 test.  Still can't beat that full frame look.  And the D4 footage still has something missing that Canon gets. Regardless of resolution, this camera sings in the right circumstances.  I think Andrew is right, both the GH2 and 5DmkIII can complement each other well.

Mark 5d3 vs D800
Enjoy the comparison pics. http://www.slrlounge.com/on-imaging-resources-canon-5d-mkiii-vs-nikon-d800-studio-sample-comparison
+1!!! Very nice!  I feel much better about the 5DmkIII.  I must say both cameras look good.  I don't think you can go wrong with either camera.
11.
More video: Not bad at all with available light.
I tell you what, there was noise reduction with this video.  There looks like no noise at all.  Even with that, you can tell the dynamic range isn't so great, that exterior shot with the blown highlights shows that.  Nice shots, don't get me wrong, but they should clearly state that they did some processing to the image.  Also, they probably didn't use the internal codec and used an external recorder.  The other video I commented on shows no noise reduction and it looks horrid.  The other thing too is that the image doesn't look very sharp, still soft.  GH2 is still king of getting very sharp results especially with the hacks.
12.
Youtube is flooded with D4 video tests from dozens and dozens of people. Every video is poor, but at least most of these D4 owners admit that they will use the camera mostly for stills.  Mushy, low contrast, virtually no color depth, blown highlights, plugged shadows with tons of harsh pixels.  Andrews initial skepticism of Nikon internal processing and hiding high quality videos from the public was criticized months ago by other blogs, forums and Nikon fanboys...but he is now being proven right.  Those people have egg on their face right now. NOBODY is able to get quality video from the D4 or D800 internally right now.  My local shop has given up and now warns buyers that they are imposing heavy restocking fee's - a few people have already tried returning D4's because of mush video.  I would post samples I took but there is no point - they look exactly the same as the sample above - lifeless and videoish.  So the only hope left is a $1000 Atomos Ninja or the Blackmagic Hyperdeck (also expensive when you add a decent SSD) and I don't own one of those. Canon MK3 is the last hope for this round of cameras I am afraid though I am hoping to be proved wrong. Bummer!
I guess the internal codec just sucks.  LOL on people returning their D4s.  And that video was bad, even the slow motion 720P was just horrible.  Win for Sony, their NEX5n and NEX7 60P trumps the D4 for slo-mo.  And what happened to the low-light?  Some of those internal shots were just crap, even the 5dmkII could beat it.  What happened to the D3s low-light?  Very interesting indeed...
13. After looking at this again on a large HDTV I take back what I said.  5dmkIII looks like it has more dynamic range, and especially the low light ISO 6400 shots look much better.  Again, it is a trade off between all the artifacts and a more aggressive noise reduction.  But the 5dmkIII does look much better.  I hope better tests are done as the focus work was bad in this video.  Still, if all things go well I should be getting my pre-order soon!  Crossing my fingers!!
14. Not in NYC, but I can tell you the hack is the easiest thing to do.  Main thing to remember is to have a fully charged battery.  If the camera shuts down for any reason, you brick it.  I usually start it up, let it sit for 5 min, get some coffee, and then it's done.  And you can return it back to normal by re-installing the original firmware.  I use some old 1GB SD cards lying around and label them "AQ2" or "Original", and then I just use the one I want. As for quality, there is a HUGE difference between the 44Mbit and the higher 100Mbit AQ2 or the 176Mbit hacks.  If you are concerned about recording times, then 44Mbit is good.  But if you want great quality then 100Mbit is the best compromise, and it spans.  You get 42min on a 32GB card, or 1 hour 20 min on a 64GB card class 10 card.  Since it's easy to install the hack, I suggest you try the different versions to see which works for you. Good luck and don't worry it's an easy install.
15.

This doesn't make me confident in the 5dmkIII.  Sure there could be focus errors as listed in the comments.  However the footage sure looks like severe noise reduction and softness in the image. 5dmkII looks sharper with more noise.  I sure hope the final version doesn't have these issues.  Of course I'll get a 5DmkIII for the better stills improvements (I shoot a lot still photography) but the video side has only slight improvements so far.  I hope I am wrong but I guess we'll find out soon enough.
The presume softness you are witnessing is most likely the absent of noise artifact dancing about which gives the impression of sharpness.
I hope you are right.  Either way I'm eagerly awaiting my 5dmkIII.  I see many people are starting to get theirs already.

17. Nikon D4 reviewed on DigitalRev! Nikon D4 Hands-on Review They also review the D4's video mode.  Wish they would do a proper review on the uncompressed hdmi output.  Video looks pretty clean though.  Can't wait to see more footage and a proper comparison - 1DX vs D4 - 5DmkIII vs D800.  Interesting times we live in!!
18. This is very nice.  It bodes well for low-light, and the elimination of moire is very good news indeed.  I can't wait to get my hands on a 5DmkIII!!
19. The other videos on the Canon Japan site are much better quality. http://web.canon.jp/imaging/eosd/samples/eos5dmk3/ I like the "Color of Hope", great quality.  And if you see the behind the scenes, they shot all those color clouds also with the 5dmkIII.  I thought those were all CGI, but being able to key those practical effects shots is impressive.  I have a really great feeling about this!
20. Check out the details for all the camera specs here: http://cpn.canon-europe.com/content/education/technical/inside_canon_eos_5d_mark_iii.do Shows a complete breakdown of frame rates, compression, audio, SMPTE, recording time and 4GB limit, etc. [s]Bummer sound is still mono[/s].  Sorry, internal mic is mono.  Input jack is stereo.  Maybe I won't have to go dual-audio anymore!
21. Yeah the web videos aren't much to write about.  Too compressed, so many halos and artifacts.  We need to see some real uncompressed footage.  But if everything else is true, I really look forward to this camera.  If anything, keeping 1080 whilst recording, continuous recording (albeit only 30min at a time), and manual audio meters (seen on the dpreview video), then I think this is a great camera.  I will always have my GH2s, but this camera still can achieve the full frame look that we all love.  Cheers Canon!!
22.
It is much more important to me that they change the 12-minute recording limit. Recording non-stop for unlimited times is not something I'm willing to give up, after getting use to it on my GH2. What I really want is word on the GH3, or a new pro-level m43 camera.
I second this.  I had to do a 3 camera shoot, had to bust out the old 5dmkII and forgot about the 12min limit!  But the real bugger is the drop in resolution when recording.  If they can do like the GH2 and keep it at 1080P, then I'm all for it.  Good times ahead!!
23. Very very nice.  Just in time for the big weekend!  Installed and no problems so far.  Thanks again Andrew!!
24. Nice first video.  Looks very filmic, even the grain looks very organic.  And the sunset sky at the end, nice gradation.  Looks like a real contender for video!  Can't wait for the full review!!  Thanks Andrew!
25. If you're looking for best compromise, the 76 Mbit patch works very well.  But I use the seaquake patch too, and although it's only 40 min on 32GB cards, it spans and works well on class 10 cards.  Still some compression, but very close to the 176 Mbit or higher hacks.  Very reliable, I use it on all my paid jobs now.
