Lens help for noobie 7D - Automotive Video

Hi!

I hope you guys can give me some advice. I'm a designer who's recently completed a video production/editing course with a view to doing corporate video for a company I work for. We sell automotive parts, so the videos will be in that arena.

The shots themselves will be of the static products and shots of the cars doing their thing with them installed. All very 'Top Gear' in style and formatting, so plenty of grading and very stylized (low DOF, wide etc)

My question is - I've narrowed down the camera to the 7D. I was going to get 1 or 2 lenses and rent the rest when needed (have a budget of around £800 for lenses)

The question is, which lenses to get?!?

I've been recommended the Canon EF-S 17-55mm f2.8 IS USM... but seems a lot to spend on the one lens. I like the look of the Tokina 11-16mm, and the Canon EF 70-200 F4 L for longer shots. But surely I should have a fast prime as my main? A sigma or something?

If anyone has any recommendations on what to do that would be great!

Paul

You don't need a fast prime, unless it's for cinematic creativity or because you have limited lighting. Your Tokina/Canon 70-200 combo will work nicely.

You'll have nice wide shots with the Tokina (especially on the crop sensor 7d) and lovely tight shots with the Canon with some bokeh. The Canon is a little slow, so make sure to bring some auxiliary lighting.
