  1. Plus I think there is a lens bundle deal for $500 more. Not sure which lenses it allows for but looks like a limited offer. Lastly, if you sign up for their online newsletter email thing you can get 10% off your first order. If it works at the $3k price level with no cap that’s an extra $300.
  2. Yup. Can’t say I’m happy about vertical shooting but I am happy about lots of anamorphic options. Although it’s really the super 35 anamorphic crops that have the fast readout speeds to really support shooting scope as opposed to the slower 6k and above open gate flavors.
  3. HDMI has very little lag now. Major improvement finally.
  4. The problem is that the artists are loosing in this new world of social media. I recently caught up over coffee with a few filmmaker friends here in LA. All of them work pretty regularly shooting commercials. They told me last year that roughly 60% of their content was shot vertical with 40% horizontal. Even for the "traditional" spots, many times the clients didn't like the look of the sample video and asked if it could be made to look more like a "mobile phone" They claimed that they were going for a reality based, "Tik Tok" look. This made all of us sad. I've been working with a client that has slowly been moving away from anything on his company website or YouTube and now I'm just shooting reels for him. I used to do nice little 3-6 minute mini docs and now he just wants 12-15 short 15 second clips.
  5. Footage up to 30p is taken from the full width of the sensor using the full capture resolution, with a slight crop in to give 60p. 4K (in both flavors) is available at up to 120p with the addition of a further slight crop. Line skipping is used to deliver these 100p and 120p modes. DCI and UHD 4K can also be captured at up to 60p from an APS-C region of the sensor.
  6. I shot two short docs and part of a feature length doc on the GH5 and GH5s and wow, I’m surprised how often I miss those cameras. I had the GH5 with the Sigma 18-35mm and metabones speedbooster. And the GH5s had a few of the m43 Leica Primes and adapted Contax Zeiss glass, also on a speedbooster. Fast, small, light and pack able for air travel. Such a solid kit. Had the GX85 as my little BTS camera and would use it as a back up/3rd angle a lot on interviews. Or mount it up in the ceiling for weird overhead angles. Tiny little 4k beast with surprisingly good IBIS for back then. I do feel like we’ve lost something from that era. GH4 to S1H era was peak LUMIX. Everything back then felt well thought out and I was always blown away with the host of features. These days it’s different. I’m also hoping the S1Rii ends up being worth the purchase, I think it suits me and what I need.
  7. I mean, you’re probably describing the next video centric camera right? S1h2 either in box form or new flagship body. Full frame LUMIX version of the X-H2s would be a hit in my opinion.
  8. Yeah, that's all fine but I wasn't really talking about your S1Rii video playlist and could care less TBH. I was referencing a specific video and account in an attempt to stimulate discussion and learning in a forum. But your general demeanor and needless stonewalling gets old real quick. Most others I feel would take 0.5 seconds to goggle a person mentioned in direct conversation. Instead you actually took more time writing out that you have no idea who that person is. What's the point of that and who does it serve? Why always the grumpy old man vibes? Is it really how you want to be perceived?
  9. I wonder if you mean to come across as snarky as you generally do. Tough to read tone on here so I think I'll just move on with my day. You seem to have it all figured out, many times I wonder why you even reply to people.
  10. I was disappointed early on but after seeing the low light capabilities and really clean (low noise) video I'm once again considering it. I think I fall into the small niche category of people this camera is perfect for.
  11. Yeah, I think he shoots on the GH7. I know his history but just feel lately like there's been 3 videos in a row where he says some weird negative stuff about LUMIX cameras in his reviews and ignores a lot of the good. He did it with the S9 video and then a follow up S9 video and now again with the S1Rii. I'm no fanboy either... I raved about how cool the S9 was from the beginning and bought the Fuji X-M5 instead once I saw the dynamic range and capabilities of 6.2k open gate/anamorphic raw. And yeah, I don't 'put faith" in any of them... I just take in the information presented and make my own conclusions. I've been following along for a while and mostly know where people's loyalties lie. I thought Ed Prosser's video was pretty balanced, do you disagree?
  12. Agree on all points. Even at the 24ms readout of the other modes it's as good as the older LUMIX cameras and by no means a major issue for most work. I think RS on the S1H in open gate was at like 29ms. There are always tradeoffs and so far we are not at the point technologically speaking for 6k or 8k resolution for larger sensor readout speeds and that level of dynamic resolution. Nikons are really, really good but lack in DR and have noise. Like most people I am seeing that the S1Rii just shows us what the next Videocentric Lumix camera should be like if the Photocentric/Hybrid model is this good for video. If you stripped away all the extras and just looked at the basic specs, the S1Rii is a pretty solid upgrade. Yes it took too long and yes it could have been faster but we finally got 4k 60p in FF and people aren't happy. Amazing low light with really, really clean images with ultra fine film like noise/grain, 32 bit float, Anamorphic support, even better IBIS, high res stills. Internal Prores raw and can shoot to SSD. "BUT GERALD SAID THE ROLLING SHUTTER IS BAD" IT'S DOA."
  13. You talking handheld on that 75mm? That's really pushing it. The IBIS and micro jitters can actually mess up the sharpness there and the added resolution of the S1Rii and new IBIS software seems to be really pushing the abilities of shots we couldn't get before with even the S5iiX Have you watched Cam Mackey's S1rii video yet? Shows what it can do with 1.5x in a way I would have expected the RS to make the shots unusable. He says he's been talking to LUMIX about adding more stretch ratios soon in an update. Who knows though... I'm not expecting a $3300 8k mirrorless camera to be able to keep up with fast RS on a tele anamorphic for action shots but it would be great for slower narrative stuff. Also, there are so many shooting options in that camera you can switch modes as needed.
  14. Jordan always hates on Lumix too. They think they are slick and coming across as being informative and objective but they slide in little comments here and there and tiny little digs. In the latest video Jordan tried to throw shade at the S1Rii because it didn't have the 8k open gate ready at launch. He reviews a beta test camera with pretty insane specs for the price point and then takes points off for extra free features the camera will get later with a firmware update? WTF? Gerald does it too. He really changed the whole perception of the S1Rii with his decision to focus so much on the rolling shutter right at the start of the video. I'm not saying the RS is good but it's not that far off from the S1h/S5ii open gate and it's better than the Sony A7RV 8k, another photocentric camera with 8k video. If you read the comments on other videos everyone is just referencing Gerald and why the S1Rii is "dead on arrival" for them due to the "unusable" RS. Other reviewers showed real world use of the camera and didn't ignore the RS issues but they included it in a fair and unbiased way. Gerald opens with the camera with the Dynamic Expansion Mode turned on in 8k and went straight to the slowest readout speed of 31.7 and talked about how bad that is... "One of the worst of most cameras he's tested". But if you turn DRE off you get 23.5ms in 8k 24. "But dynamic range suffers". Again... Panasonic gets dinged for added features like DRE and those "extras" are seen as compromises and coming up short as opposed to a feature they generously gave us. A lot of it is the fault of LUMIX and their terrible marketing department who have a decent product but keep loosing time and time again in the popularity contests. It's not enough to just have a "good" product anymore, you also have to convince everyone who are being sold a "decent" product and being told its "amazing". Ed Prosser and Media Division along with Zach Mayfield and others do a great job. Some of the shills could learn a thing or two from the YouTubers that just use the gear and report back, instead of trying to "INFLUENCE" gag,\.
  15. I've been trying to use Reddit more lately and explore different communities but wow... makes me really appreciate our group here. You can see the different age groups represented in various social media platforms and it sure is eye opening to hear from Millennials and Get Z as opposed to Facebook Groups. Instagram is useless now at this point. Youtube and Reddit really show how strange the industry and marketing have become. It is great that we have more transparency and technical knowledge as buyers. I feel for people in sales these days when the average consumer can come into a location, (If there even is a brick and mortar store anymore) and already know the specs and sale prices of everything. But the power of Youtube shills is pretty abhorrent and how quickly the younger generation is swayed by certain people for better or worse... I'm so tired of the clickbait thumbnails and "Why I'm Leaving X" videos. It's like walking unto a used car lot or a cheap department store. Thanks for this space Andrew. I came here to buy your "Anamorphic PDF" years ago and have been a fan ever since. This forum helped me Learn to adapt my Kowa and Elmoscoppe II, decide to get the GH4 and metabones speed booster combo and then the GX85 as a little B cam. I've sold at least 5 other people on those devices after they saw my footage and didn't believe it was m43. This shift in Panasonic and the industry in general has been sad, I agree. I miss the old days. I wish they would just listen to us and give us the camera everyone wants. Even if Sony is holding out on the better sensors I still feel like there is a way to come up with products that are better thought out. Honest reviews and opinions aren't rewarded in this world like they used to be so I know it's been a long and hard road.
  16. If you shoot anamorphic cinema style stuff the S1Rii is pretty nice. Really solid low light equal or better than the FX3 and class leading IBIS. This camera will be nice for Cinematic run and gun doc work and travel stuff. Leave the gimbal at home and a bring less lights. Yes please. Does the R5 do high res multi shot stuff? My last Canon was a 5Dmk2.
  17. I mean, R stands for resolution not Photography. It has a 44mp sensor instead of 24. So technically it’s labeled just fine since it is the highest resolution camera they make. Maybe they should have called it H for hybrid but that’s confusing because of the S1H already considered the Hybrid before. V for video would have been better. My guess is that they’re dropping the S1 since it’s in the middle and not necessarily needed. S9 - line for vloggers S5 - line for budget level hybrids S1R - hybrid leaning towards stills BS2H - video centric box cam
  18. Why the hell would you put an OLPF in a photography focused stills camera? Obviously this is geared for photography so is it surprising the video performance isn't what we want for the S1H II ? RS isn’t as big a deal as you seem to make it for the rest of us but whatever. If anything all this does is show me what we might be able to expect from the next model that IS for pro level video.
  19. Yes, I think all of this was leaked days ago and back at the beginning of this thread. I'm liking the new lower price though, I sure hope that's true. $3298 is a very competitive process for all the features.
  20. Agreed. The RAW specs sound awesome.
  21. I was hoping to see more 10 bit 4.2.2 options and I hate when they post video specs and purposely omit the *S35 crop info. We Panasonic folk have long been missing FF, 4k 60p so at least it sounds like we’re covered up to 120p now. Will be nice to hear everything confirmed in a few days.
