  1. It would be worth also to heat the camera in an oven to some temperature over the overheat limit (e.g. 70°C?) and to check if recording could be started at all. If yes, you could keep the camera again in the oven for few hours after "overheating" to check if it somehow recovered despite no change in an ambient temperature. This could strengthen a proof, that mostly software timers are involved in a recovery process.
