  1. It makes me think of the Epson Page Count planned obsolescence "scandal" : https://therestartproject.org/design/triumphing-together-against-planned-obsolescence/ Standard practices it seems. Or when people realized ink cardtriges really are utterly overpriced colored liquids, some crafty users did stuff like this (basically to self recharge and have continuous and affordable ink): And the Epson reacted...with that : It seems it's still up to users to create some rumble and class actions to have things move forward in a good way.

Yes, gyroscope data seems to be asked for by VFX guys (from what i understand this could be useful to simplify tracking - less motion blur & a way to stabilize footage, composite, then i guess remove it if shaky cam is needed after ?). The way i understand it, Active mode uses the gyro data in camera, so, without the ability to tweak it in post, it should be working with any lenses (manual, vintage, ...) which is great. I've heard in a video that E-mount zoom lenses could be controlled via the A7siii screen to do zoom movement "electronically", without touching the barrel of the lens, anybody has some footage of this feature ? I'd be interested to give it a look. Now, I'd like to know which standard lens (zoom or not, Sony native or not) is the best overall for autofocus video, lowlight, speed, etc...I'd be ok going with the FE 35mm 1.8 but i don't know how it performs. I hope someone would do a serious comparison for the enhanced AF of the A7SIII with 28-75mm range in Sony, Tamron & Sigma with the latest firmware, etc...And if anybody has some feedback or content to share, thanks !
  3. True. This is even trickier with raw files as you need to grade before exporting and then stabilize in another software. Really hope this comes to Resolve natively as well.
  4. Wait till people discover the power of gyroscope stabilization that's going to be in the A7siii... In case you haven't seen this stabilization solution, here's a video on it on the FX9 : Coming from a french (and not so convenient) solution maybe spoken about here called the Steadxp, i have to say i'm reaaaally excited Sony put it in those cameras... It's an extra step in post (a few clicks in a Sony software) but it really is amazing...not for everyone's way of shooting though. What i'm curious to know is what non Sony lenses will support this (Tamron ? Sigma?). And if a profile could be added in catalyst to support non Electronic lenses like vintage ones for instance (which you can do with Steadxp btw as you have to create profiles for each lenses / focals).

Hi, i almost finished my Hypergonar 2x setup and bought a Aputure VS2 FineHD thinking that Magic Lantern would output the 2x anamorphic display...And found out that it doesn't (& the VS2FineHD only has a 2.35 mode which is a shame because for the price, this monitor is really good ! I sent a message to the Aputure telling them that they should add it to a future update - adding more anamorphic desqueeze options shouldn't be too hard as they already did one). So now, i'm thinking of getting a really good monitor for focusing mainly and it seems the 702 bright is the way to go. One thing that bothers me is that it doesn't output the desqueezed signal (at least at the moment), and it's more or less the same price as a Pix E7, which of course has a bunch of recording options too AND outputs the desqueezed signal to any other monitor... I know they're quite different machines, and being limited to 30fps in 4k will soon be a problem... 2x anamorphics give a ratio so extreme, you have to be really cautious if you want to nail focus. I've seen the 702 also has a remote that can seems to be helpful for one man operating with a shoulder rig for example. I'd like to be able to work alone or with a focus puller sometimes...and would ideally like to be able to send a desqueezed signal to other monitors as well... Has anyone got any personal experience with those types of setups ? maybe you rent the two ?!
  9. Why would they produce only a 77mm ?! Would have made more sense to produce larger ones to be sure it fits more models.

Hi, i've decided to make an anamorphic setup but i'm a bit lost with the technical aspects & the latest hardware developments (Focus Module & SLR Magic Range Finder) so thanks if anyone can answer here. I'm sorry if it sometimes reads as i'm thinking out loud, but i really need help though (and maybe it'll help other people too). Setup I'd like to shoot a narrative short film with the following setup : Helios 44-2 58mm f2 as a taking lens with a Hypergonar Hifi 2 or 16ST, most probably on a A7SII (i'd like to be able to make tests on my Canon 650D /T4i) with a follow focus and of course ND filters. I'd like to know if anyone would have the specs for those lenses. I don't really know which clamp to buy. The Helios 44-2 has a 49mm filter size. At first, I'll buy the clamp, the Hypergonar (maybe both Hifi 2 & 16ST) and the Helios just to do some tests and if i'm ok with it, i'll go on and solve the double focus problem. Anamorphic Shop Focus Module vs. SLR Magic Range Finder The two solutions (Focus Module & Range Finder) make it impossible to use a matte box with square filters because the FM & the RF move back & forth when focusing. I can live without flags, not without nd filters. Is the image captured on the Focus Module really using the 105mm diameter or can we cheat by using smaller diameter filters ? I'm asking because i have a Heliopan 82mm variable Nd that i'd be glad to use with it. The Range Finder is great by having a 82mm front thread size. I'll ask Anamorphic Shop directly but if anybody has the info here i'd be glad to know if the Hypergonar Hifi 2 fits in the Focus Module ? I think the Hypergonar 16 ST does but i'd like to have confirmation on that too if possible. The focus throw seems to be really different on the 2 : Really long on the FM and quite short on the RF. I've read somewhere that the FM is a bit of a pain to deal with because of that (too) long focus throw. Anybody has feedback on that ? Maybe with handheld / tripod narrative or documentary use ? Minimum focus distance is 60cm on the FM vs 1,1m on the RF. Price Last question, i see Andrew talked about the Range Finder being 550$ (=500€) but on the SLR Magic site it says 550 pounds, which makes it 700 euros. I see it listed at 599$ on Adorama and BHPhoto. But on the European SLR Magic site, it's listed as 760€ (!!!). http://www.slrmagic-europe.com/slr-magic-rangefinder-cine-adapter.html So, in the end, the Focus module still is cheaper (for us in Europe at least ) : it's listed at 640€ (there isn't any info on the shipping costs) but that still needs a gear to make it work with a FF. Con's for the FM : Lens breathing is still there, it's heavier, with a long focus throw (not sure how bad that is), needs to find some gears to use with a follow focus, 105mm front thread filter size (82mm for the Range Finder) Pro's for it : it's cheaper (without the FF gears), has a 60cm minimal focus distance Thanks if anybody has the time to share some knowledge on those questions...
