  1. Looking at the test on dox it seems like a photography test not a video test and from what i have seen none of the DSLR cameras do video half as good as they do low light photos in the high iso settings.

But still that A7S to 1DC test posted here makes the A7S look nothing like what any of the reviews have been saying but maybe they never tested it to the 1DC like this.

  2. I also had to make the same choice if the Sony had inside 4K i would of went with it but i ordered the NX1 to.

I read every review and looked at so many videos my eyes hurt.

    You posted

    • Internal 4k up to 30fps and 1080p up to 120fps.
    • Better colour reproduction
    • Higher megapixel count for stills (although probably doesn't matter much if you only publish to web)
    • Better body and user interface
    • Dat 16-50mm f2-2.8 lens

I would add if you end up spending $2000 more for the shogin as i might or not then the total cost is $1000 less with the NX1. I got the kit to with 2.8 lens and a NV filter. I think 28MP for stills it just way to much i would rather have the 12MP A7S for that. What are you going to take a photo of and print that needs 28MP  i can print 24x36 from 12mp or less files any day. I had a Canon 44 inch wide format printer and printed lots of 24x36s from my Nikon D700 i also printed 36 inch wide by 8 feet with no problem and had many billboards printed from it as well. I would love to see a NX2 with 12MP and much better low light ISO like the A7S and super good details and some better video features.Or a 28MP Raw half size raw files so i can shoot 14MP raw files and 7MP raw files.

For example if you shoot a wedding and shoot raw with 28MP raw files the editing and storage is going to kill you. No one is going to buy a 28MP large print of people dancing at a wedding reception. I shoot 90% of the wedding with the D700 in the Raw croped mode shooting 6MP raw files i only shoot 12MP raw for the portraits. You can still print a very nice 24x36 from a 6MP file. I was printing them from 3MP files back when that was all was available and looking at a 3MP 24x36 VS a 24MP 24x36 from 6 feet back you would have a very hard time telling what camera shot what.

I think the 28MP raw files are a disadvantage for any Pro event shooter. I could see shooting in studio for portraits with it when you are not shooting hundreds fo images you have to edit. Even for sports its overkill imagine coming home with 2000 28MP raw files to edit from a sports event to have the image printed in a Magazine that only needs a 2MP or smaller file size.

  3. Would like to see what most of you are using for software for editing your video and grading it i am looking at a few software's .

Any using Hitfilm to edit and grade it?

What about Film Convert for grading is it any good?  it looks very good but so dose the controls in Hitfilm

Or are you just doing it all in Premier or Vegas with no other plug ins?

    Lets see your cage

I am going to need to get a cage at some point and have no clue what to get for a not to expensive price point. I will be shooting with a Samsung NX1 i just ordered.

I would love to see photos of what your cage set up looks like and what you are using like cage, Mikes, Mixer, Hoods and so on. Can you use the Shogun as a sound mixer for most things?

    Cage VS Gimbal

Also what are your thoughts on buying a cage set up VS spending the money on a good Gimbal gyroscope in place of the cage??

    Thanks

  4. Beautiful images from this camera. I love it when companies stir up the industry. Sadly I dont think this will be a popular camera just due to the name Samsung. Professionals dont hear that name and think camera. They think smart phone or TV. BTW this is my favorite grade you have done. Beautiful contrast between colors.

I have to agree some what. I have been a long time Nikon shooter and Canon before that and Samsung was never in the game in any pro way in the past.

I was going to buy the Panasonic or Sony and never even looked at the NX1 thinking no not a Samsung camera it cant be good.

But right before i ordered the Panasonic i took a look at some reviews and then more and more and more and now i just ordered the NX1.

The NX1 seems to be a very good middle ground - if the A7S had inside 4K recording i would of got it for sure just for the super low light shooting it offers. But i think if Samsung did this good on this first version then by this time next year they will have the next version out that will blow us away and Sony to with Panasonic in 3rd and Canon way into 4th.

  5. Cant wait to see if this makes the high iso of the NX1 be a lot cleaner at 3200 and 6400. you pointed out something about it not 100% working with the NX1 yet what is not working yet ?

I need to order a camera on Monday .. i am at a beach location i want to shoot at and will only be here till after Xmass need to shoot a lot of stock here before i go.

Was disappointed to see that they have no metabones speed for NX1 use. I can cover getting the NX1 or HG4 and shogun and lens but the Sony at $1000 more is just out of reach.

  6. I guess i am going to be the brutal one...

For a demo showing your work to get more work i was expecting it to grab me right away and make me want to keep watching with excitement of wow this is the guy i want to shoot something for me.

But i felt like it was very down beat and slow more like a camera demo showing basic shots of things and very non exciting.

Just my point of view but i feel a demo of someones work to show to soon to be customers should have a huge wow factor not only the video but audio to.

  7. Looks better then i would think it would. what iso was that shoot at.

I wanted to share a test video I shot with my new GH4 out at night on the streets of NYC.

It was shot on the 60fps VFR mode with a Sigma 30mm 1.4 for Nikon + Metabones speed booster.

I've heard lots of people saying this camera is awful for low-light shooting, but so far i'm pretty happy with it.

  8. Hi i just joined up here.

I did video production for 10 years but that was over ten years ago then switched 100% to photography for over 10 years then a few years back got out of that to except for a few things i do still shoot,

I still have two Nikon D700 cameras that shoot very well at ISO 4000 and 5000 and some good Nikon glass.

Now looking to get back into a video photo mix if possible with something new.

Been reading a lot here what a good find this is lots of great information but i have a few ?s i have not been able to find any topics on.

For one i want 4K to be able to get stills i can use for good looking small prints, web images and super looking video.

    ????

With the new upgrade and the 4K photo mode on the GH4 that sounds super except i just can not get over how bad the low light shooting is on that camera for me to want to buy it. Also i love full frame.

Dose the Nikon D750 and Sony A7S have anything like that - the 4K photo mode?

Can i shoot 4K video out of the D750 into a recorder to get 4K? if not then the Nikon is out..

With the A7S can i shoot 4K video and set the shutter speed to any thing i want to be able to grab solid stills at high ISOs.

Another words can i shoot the A7S in 4K at ISO 5000 and a shutter speed of 250 to 500 to shoot fast action MMA fighting and then pull 4K stills from it???

Same ? with the D750 if it can record out 4K.

I shoot a good amount of MMA fights as a photographer all stills and they never have good lighting and most of the images never get printed they are for web use and when some do get printed they are small or no larger then a 11x14

Anyone have any low light fast action 4K stills they can show with high shutter speeds set?

The GH4 would get great but the iso noise in the high ranges i need to shoot in look very bad i could not use that.

If none of the cameras i listed can do this are their any yet that offer super good HIGH ISO 4K stills?? in the $2500 price range

Maybe it is still to soon for this.

Next ? i am playing with a friends Canon 70D shooting some video and i find it almost impossible to use the zoom ring and get a smooth zoom in or out.

How are you all doing this what would be needed to make this possible for a smooth zoom on a DSLR.?

Next ? viewfinder  what would be a good view finder to use out on sunny days that i can see or to use in a way that others can not see what i am shooting?

Any News of a new version of the A7S coming out soon with more features.

    Thanks
