  1. I thought it looked great - the camera seemed to cope pretty well with the sports/action scenes. I understand that it is a marketing video and they are only going to choose to shoot stuff that the camera can cope with but there was quite a bit of variation in there. It might be expensive for video on its own but coupled with what is presumably a very good stills camera it doesn't seem like a bad thing at all.
  2. GH3 has started to get a bit cheaper - I just noticed that panasonic are now running an offer where you can claim a free battery, grip and 25mm lens when you buy a GH3 (currently about GBP 749 in the UK). http://promotions.panasonic.co.uk/offer/lumix-gh3-free-lens-and-accessories/ Also an offer for the GH4 with battery and grip http://promotions.panasonic.co.uk/offer/lumix-gh4-preorder-offer-free-battery-grip-and-battery/ (apologies if this has been posted before, just the first time I had seen it)
  3. Premiere Pro CC - I use Photoshop a lot (for graphics rather than photos) and so I got into Premiere and After Effects. Now with Creative Cloud having access to 'everything' is pretty useful and I've started using Audition plus looking at things like speed grade, story etc. Being able to dip into the different packages and use 10-20% of the functionality of each works well for me and means I always have options when it comes to trying out something new.
  4. Do you know what you are going to be shooting with this camera? Is it going to be lots of moving things that need tracking in the frame or static shots like interviews? I have some low end DSLRs that I use on some shots - the autofocus is shocking but I just lock the focus and hit record so autofocus just doesn't matter to me. Others would probably class them as unusable because they have a different set of criteria. If you might need to use the camera for a bit of everything then that will probably mean you have to compromise somewhere to get a camera that will do enough of what you need.
  5. So does anyone think this will have an impact on the GH3 price? Does the GH4 make it go lower because there is a 'newer and better' model out, or does it drive it higher because the GH3 is now part of a system with an easy upgrade to 4k? Or is there no impact? (I would like cheaper to be the answer!)
  6. Seems to be £1299 at Wex so pretty close... http://www.wexphotographic.com/buy-panasonic-lumix-dmc-gh4-digital-camera-body/p1550272
  7. It looks like there is some stuff in beta for the 3200 too! https://nikonhacker.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1798
  8. @skiphunt - nice video. I thought the footage and the edit were great. The narration really worked for me and I didn't find it distracting at all. Were the slow motion /time lapse pieces done with the 5300 in camera?
  9. I think they would have to explicitly do a version for the 3200 firmware (it isn't necessarily the same as the 3100) but I think in principle it would be possible. It seems that they work on the cameras they physically have (3100,5100,7000,800?) and each camera requires a new hack (although some share parts of the firmware which makes certain models easier to get started with). If they have the physical camera to work with, the time to do it, enough people to test (who are willing to risk potentially bricking) then all models are possible. It is pretty cool stuff but very time consuming by the looks of it!
  10. That is nice - are there any good movie examples online showing the differences?
  11. My understanding is that the situation on Nikon is much more constrained and therefore it is very difficult to add lots of new things. On Canon you can add entirely new bits of code that run off SD card so you have lots more flexibility. On Nikon you have to fit it all into the space onboard the chip inside the camera - so if you want to add something new you have to overwrite something that is already there (and hopefully not being used) and/or just switch things back on that Nikon engineers switched off and/or change the values of certain variables (e.g. bitrate = XXX). It also means that the development process is more difficult as you might inadvertently overwrite something important which can break the camera. Unless Nikon change the way their firmware works I think Canon / ML will always be further ahead in this regard.
  12. The second pic looks nicer to me - what are these two pictures comparing in terms of specs?
  13. This is cool for the 3100! Having a bit more control in live view and increasing the recording time limit would be nice to have. With a bit of work the image out of the 3100 is really nice for what I do so any improvement is all gravy.
  14. @WildRanger - really nice teaser. Even without understanding the language I thought the way the first half built things up was very good.
