1. yes with vlc they dont play, i can open them up but they are all choppy. The audio is there but video is just picture that is choppy..
2. ok thank you for your help guys. Sorry for freaking out this just is the worst, don't know what I am going to do.. but I will try converting the .mts files and see what happens... I do have another question though, I did buy a brand new 32 gb san disk extreme pro memory card yesterday and that is what I used to record the footage last night. I realized that I didn't put the hack on this memory card, so was I not even using the hack at all? Does the hack depend on the memory card? because I originally hacked my camera with another memory card in it.. Man this scares me to use the hack in the future.. (EDIT): I converted the .mTS files to a quicktime format but they still wont play.. Does anyone suggests using an sd recovery software to attempt to get this file back?
3. thank you galen, I will try this. (EDIT): I can only find .mts files on my card ... The Private foler is empty.... Can anyone suggest a sd recovery program?
4. Ok so i filmed a show tonight that is very important to me, and when I got home I watched the footage on my laptop and it was fine. I uploaded the majority of the files but one file was 45 minutes long so I waited to upload that file after I charged my battery. I closed the program and ejected my camera safely from my mac and charged my battery. When I turned the camera back on my footage was gone! I didn't get to upload this file (45 mins) and it was the most important file that I needed so badly, and now its gone and I'm freaking out. Is there anything I can do? When I look on my camera it says no valid picture to display, but I never deleted the footage off my camera... Is there anything I can do? I'm dying over here... its for my final project is there anything i can do (I'm using final cut pro x, gh2, sandisk etreme pro 32gb 95mpbs)
5.
If you want to keep a talent in focus while performing 'Don Juan', and have shallow DoF at the same time, you can use a black thread as distance-keeper.
Can you elaborate on this? I am definitely going to be wanting a shallow depth of field on most of my shots.
6. If I will be continously recording for the whole show, should I still not use the focus while recording? And I will keep aperature higher..
7. ok thanks. awesome respones thank you. I am filming a show in a new york one of these nights- a band playing inside a studio- but its very tight in the studio and I haven't shot with the gh2 too much, so I didn't know if there were any tips I can take going into this... I definitely won't use the focus once I start recording then, but I probably wont have this camera on the tripod. I will have my other (not as good) camera on the tripod not being moved and then the gh2 (20mm) on my steadicam which I will use for close ups..
8. Hey guys, I have been having some trouble with my camera. I have been reading the eos gh2 guide and I have been learning that I should pretty much always use the manual functions, especially the manual focus. But I have been having trouble focusing when I am filming, it kind of.makes the camera shake. I don't know if its because of my small 20mm Panny lens or that I am just new, but I have it on a steady cam and its smooth except when I focus its really hard to keep the shot steady. Any help with this from some experts? Thanks guys.
9. Thanks everyone you are the best.. I'm still a little confused, so could you recommend a good neutral density filter for the 12mm hyper prime? Maybe one on amazon? I just don't want to get the wrong one and I will definitely be shooting outside
10. Yeah I am going to go with the SLR magic just because of all the good recommendations and good stuff I have read.. Thanks guys!! but I have heard about the lens flaring and such, what would be the best way to deal with this for this lens? Could someone point out the right kind of filter for this lens?
11. I have read the other post on this website about this topic, but I still couldnt make up my mind. I have read several different forums and posts but I still can't decide. Can anyone make a suggestion? The hyper prime is $549 on ebay and the olympus is at $659. Is the hundred dollars worth it? I am looking to shoot short films and need a good wide angle lens. I heard the olympus is sharper but the noktor hyper prime has more of a cinema feel.. and I don't have the best light set up if that makes a difference.. Also, I have read that a filter is needed for the hyper prime, can someone show me a link to this kind of filter for this lens?
12. So I have bought the "EOS GH2 GUIDE" book and I have been reading. I promise! I have also been shooting with my camera a lot and getting some practice, (staying away from the forums)... But I do have a legitimate question about my 20mm pancake lens, Does anyone else have trouble manually focusing with this lens because of how small it is? My fingers keep getting in the shot.. With my canon fd 50mm, its fine to focus, but the pancake its a lot harder. Any advice on this? I might sell the 20mm pancake or return it, any suggestions on a better "all around" lens? Its for a short film I am shooting, so I am going for prime lenses, maybe a wide angle? (I already have the canon fd50mm for reference..)
13. GalenB, is this true of a lumix lens as well? Is the 20mm pancake crop to 40mm?
14. Yes it will. I have the canon fd 50mm on my gh2 and its definitely closer to 100mm than 50mm. I also have the panasonic 20mm pancake, its great for the gh2, still not a wide lens though, not sure if that is actually 20mm on my gh2 or if its 2x as long as well like the canon fd, so maybe my 20 is actually 40mm. You will have to wait and find out.
15. I will check that website out. And my microphone is battery powered by 1 AA battery, its the azden sgm2x. I will have to purchase either a beachtek preamp or a digital recorder like the tascum. Any suggestions which would be better?
16. I like that quote Axel. Thank you and you are so right, buying stuff wont solve the problem. I have been told audio is one of the most important parts of film, and this audio hiss is unacceptable, so I do feel the need to upgrade my audio but then stop there. By me using my old mixer that is a way of not spending my money and using my resources more creatively, accept it didn't work out. I just don't understand the hiss. The adapter went straight from 1/8inch out into my gh2. Can you not use an audio mixer to preamp? It says preamp on it.. But thanks again, I will have to think of something.
17. So I remembered I had a 2 channel mixer at my house. It has XLR in and I am using the CD/TAPE out (red and white cables) to 3.5mm with adapter on for 2.55mm in my GH2. It works fine and I can hear myself through the headphones on my mixer, and it records fine, but there is this loud hiss going on or some feedback when the mic is on. On my other camera I would just turn down the volume and it would take care of the hiss, but this seems way more loud than usual. Any suggestions?
18. 1.Would you go external recorder over one of those beachtek pre amps? 2. I just realized I have a mixer (that I use for my guitar and piano) that says pre amp on it. It has XLR input for mics and has a headphone jack, now the outputs are either 1/4 inch or RCA (red and white), I have the option. Would this work if I used this as a preamp?
19. I think it worked when i reformatted it on my camera! Kind of hard to tell if the hack is actually in tact or not. Quality does seem better but it could just be me. Do I HAVE to remove the hacked file frm my sd card in order for the hack to work? I didn't do that, but I think its working fine.
20. I just hacked my GH2 using these directions http://osgfilms.com/...-panasonic-gh2/ and It seems to turn on ok and it went alright but now when I try and record video it only lets me record for a second and says there is no space when the disk is empty? Help!! It says something like this everytime i turn it on... I did reformat it before I hacked it but I thought I did that right? "This card is not formatted with this camera, and it will not record video" I did reformat it before I hacked it but I thought I did that right?
21. Very true.... I was only looking for a longer cable because I figured someone else would be working the audio, with microphones and the mic away from the camera. Wouldn't it be better to have the controls near him and not me control it while i film? And I def need xlr in
22. I use FCP X @ Axel... Preamp is looking like the answer... How does this set up look http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004VG27IC/ref=gno_cart_title_2 with the following cable http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00291N83O/ref=gno_cart_title_1 Will I be good to go?
23.
Actually it's the other way around. The signal coming from the mic is not going to be loud enough. And, if it's a condenser mic (I'm pretty sure it is) then it will probably requite some sort of power. So, if you were to plug it into the camera you wouldn't hear anything.
its actually powered with 1 AA battery, which is pretty convenient. Can you recommed a cheap, but still good preamp? Would this be work? (still a little too high) http://www.amazon.com/JuicedLink-Minijack-Camcorder-Preamplifier-Disable/dp/B004VG27IC/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1350044844&sr=8-3&keywords=juicedlink+cx211
24. Thank you for that description. I understand a lot better. Unfortunately, I can't afford a beachtek (anything over 150) right now, so maybe I will just record with my mic and hope it doesnt get too loud.
