1.
Is it? Maybe it works in different ways, but it definitely happens in Europe. The best example is Apple, their prices are pretty much fixed everywhere.
Apple sells their own products everywhere, and when they don't they have strict rules for their authorized resellers, hardly a good example :)
 2.
Andrew Reed got his last week cant wait to see what he thinks of it!
Oh that's unfortunate, does that mean he can't cancel his order anymore in order to buy a RED one? :)
 3. If REd can keep selling cameras at this price point I'm sure many 3rd party accessories will start showing up. There wasn't any cheap rods and matte box solution until DSLRs started to be used for video, then suddenly we got hundreds of rigs and all sorts of accessories for close to nothing. Can't you use any HDMI monitor with the RED? It comes with at least one SSD, though it might be small, and not sure about using 3rd party batteries either. But yes, accessories are definitely more expensive, but it's a different beast we're talking about here, and definitely a much lower risk investment!
 4. I was never a fan of Red's way of doing business, their arrogance or their fan boys, but seriously, with a RED One at $4000 why would anyone buy and keep waiting for v1 of the Blackmagic Design camera? These will probably sell out pretty quick, but if RED could somehow continue making them at this price, things would seriously change in the camera business!
 5.
That is what I base my statement on.
So you base your statement on something that doesn't exist, RED people would be proud of you.
 6. The Scarlet was announced the same day as the C300. They never knew how to make a 3k camera for $3K, so they released a stripped down version of the camera they already had for more than 4x as much as the Scarlet was supposed to cost. Now they're making time while they figure out how to respond to Sony's announcements.
 7. People keep complaining about the 5D3, looks like everyone expected it to become a video/cinema camera over night. Many cameras have been released by Nikon and Sony and others since, and the 5D3 is still the most useable, they fixed all the aliasing issues and improved the codec compression a lot, and color wise, they're still one of the best looking, it's not that many features, but they're damn important to the image quality. Sharper resolution and 60fps would have made it perfect. Of course there's a ton of other features that would be great to have, but I'm talking about the essentials to getting a good image here. Canon doesn't usually add features to existing products, and the first time they did it was to add manual audio to the 5D2, then they recently added a bunch of features (mostly stills features) to the 7D, and now clean HDMI out on the 5D3, this hints at some changes on the way they deal with customers, and it seems like they're starting to listen... Btw, comparing the image quality of a GoPro3 even at 4k with a 5D3 is just stupid.
 8.
And they also promised to upgrade the codec on the hero 2 and we've not heard didley about that yet .
Didn't it come out last week? In fact, I think it's the same free upgrade they now have for the GoPro3.
 9. The guys are in there, playing with the codec and trying to improve it, I guess they should know their resolutions by now.
 10.
DSLRs are heavier for this, with loads of rolling shutter.
Previous GoPros didn't have any less rolling shutter issues, has it improved with this model?
 11.
Where did you get all these figures from? Please post the url. thanks
The Magic Lantern guys have been investigating codec improvements and higher bitrates, and that's the figures they've discovered. That's the capture resolution, and then the footage is upscaled to 1080p. That also explains why HDMI out is lower resolution. 12. We'll have to wait and see, but the specs are good and they've been listening to the community and making important improvements since the announcement. C-Mount, 16mm sensor and no rolling shutter make it very appealing, let's see how it performs...

 14. Codecs can always be improved, even raw. This one is based on an open source raw format, so it can be constantly updated, and that might improve performance in many ways, so it can always be an improvement. If this rumour is true, I doubt a passive MFT mount will ever come out, they're probably trying to get these features into the camera for when the MFT version is finally released.
 15. If that is true it wouldn't be too early for an update, it would be too late, since those are basic and rather obvious requests that they've been ignoring since the beginning. Not listening to your possible customers when finishing any product so you can use that information to fine tune your product is bad business behavior, as any good product manager will tell you.
 16.
Nearly half your resolution (600 lines vs nearly 1000+)
600 lines seems to be an exaggeration. The 5D3's video capture resolution is 1904x1072, vs 1720x974 for the 5D2/7D/550D.
 17. Sounds like "your camera" has a pretty high bitrate codec.
 18.
You're saying Leica is saying that the full 24MP can be read out of the sensor 24/25 times a second, then that information can be downscaled in software? How exactly is that supposed to work? that a Leica camera made of brass and iron is able to move that much information off the sensor when a 1dx or D4 doesn't come close to achieving it.
The images are read at full sensor resolution, scaled down by the processor while in memory and then saved to the card/movie file. It's not that hard to understand, is it? 1DX, D4 and a ton other cameras don't achieve it because they weren't programmed to do so, doesn't mean it's impossible.
 19. That looks pretty damn good to me. In a controlled environment, shooting fiction, I'm sure the results could be truly impressive. Beautiful films have been made with 5D2/7D cameras, this is a step up in so many aspects, it's about time we stop waiting for the perfect camera and just get on with filmmaking.
 20.
The Canon guy in that german Photokina Video said "this camera is filming in the new 4K format, that means four times full-HD resolution"... Well...
4k is actually more than 4 times HD resolution...
 21.
Free Resolve 9 and Ultrascope, take that into consideration and the GH3 will not be so cheap when you take into account the expected price increase over GH2.
It's not like you need Resolve and Ultrascope to use the GH3, is it? You do need it to work with BMCC raw material though. And if you do need Resolve, there's a free version.
 22.
also i don´t get why anyone wants a dslr after the bmcc is out.
It costs 1/3 of the price, probably even less considering all you have to buy to be able to use the BMCC properly, that alone is a huge reason. Stills and 1080/60p are another couple great reasons. Do you have any doubts that Panasonic will sell thousands more GH3 cameras than Black Magic Design?
 23.
In the promotion video there are two things that make me worry though: Is 'HDR' for stills only? And: They show a camera mounted on a car rig. The shots (probably from the GH3?) showing the driver are very short, as if they were cut in a way as not to betray any RS issues. They could have made them longer to show that the sensor now handles these things better.
I don't think they were hiding anything since you can see clearly see the rolling shutter beast showing its ugly head in that train shot. I actually quite admire Panasonic for including that shot in the demo, if they did it on purpose.
 24.
can anyone give me some advice on whether the 35-100 f2.8 lens and gh3 will be useful for sports photography?
Maybe when the camera and lens have actually been released... what kind of advice would you expect at this stage? :)
 25.
I can't imagine why you would ever need to adjust audio while recording. They don't do that in the audio world! You check your levels and leave them be.
Are you serious? So you ask everyone in front (or behind the camera) to maintain the exact same level of sound of whatever they're saying or doing throughout the entire shot... man you really have an amazing control over your cast/crew/surrounds! So you think cameras and audio recorders come with audio level displays just so you can sit there watching your audio clip and not do anything about it? Have you ever even seen anyone (properly) recording audio?
