Hi all, As a media artist I received a request that is out of my usual domain. A major USA content licensing bureau contacted me about the use of a video registration of one of my artworks that they saw online. Their portfolio includes the biggest international brands. They want to use my footage in a commercial for a 'major electronics manufacturer' (which they won't disclose until terms are negotiated). They're offering royalties but I'm clueless about what are realistic rates in this business. Does anyone have insights on what a "one time license fee for up to 10 seconds. Usage will be for 2 years, All Media, Worldwide." should earn me? (Btw, footage shot on hacked GH2) Thanks for all input, dtr

I also had writing errors with the vanilla 44mb/s patch. i'm now happily using cake2.2 (which turns out to have a bug in 24H mode and is about to be updated, btw).

I did some extensive testing of my 64GB 45MB/s card and Cake2.1. Both PAL and NTSC, HBR and 720p modes, tele and high ISO's. I didn't get one write error or spanning failure so far. Happy.

I've redone the R/W card test with the Sandisk Extreme 64GB 45MB/s. Now using AJA System test on my studio desktop and a new Lexar UHS-I enabled reader. R:40MB/s W: 30MB/s. Of course this doesn't say anything about writing speed on the GH2.

Hi, I'm an audiovisual performance artist, working a lot with projections and other artificial light sources. I got me a GH2 to document my work and I was wondering if the GH2's display is always accurate for spotting interference of shutter speed, frame rate and electric light sources resulting in flickering and pulsing in the recording. The display has a refresh rate itself so I could imagine it adds an inaccuracy factor. Anyone's got advice on this? Thanks, Dieter

cray, i did some testing with sanity4.1 and mpgxsvcd. i didn't get write errors. on some settings spanning wouldn't work. i didn't keep precise track of results, sorry. i now reverted back to FW1.1 with just the ISO and recording time limits removed. that's because i have another issue with the high bit rate patches: file size... i'm using my gh2 to record my rehearsals and audiovisual performances. ease of use and manipulation (uploading to web etc) is more important to me than the very highest level of detail. my laptop chokes on the high bit rates and i don't have access to my studio desktop while on the road (which i am a lot). i did do a card R/W speed test with FlashBench on windows. i got around 20MB/s sustained both R/W. that's with the 45MB/s card. i'm not sure how representative this test is though. i don't know the specs of the borrowed card reader i used and it was done on an aging computer. 

yeah that's the one. when you press it you get 2 choices: reset rec. settings and reset setup/custom parameters

i've had writing error trouble with the vanilla patch and a sandisk SDXC extreme class 10 45MB/s 64GB card as well. i'm now testing other patches from personal-view. too soon to make real conclusions. it's unlikely that your body got damaged by the hack. did you reformat the card (total wipe by computer, then format in camera)? do you reformat the card after installing new firmware? did you reset the camera settings (can clear up weirdness sometimes)? any trouble when you put back the official 1.1 firmware? 

is anyone having trouble with vanilla patch HBR/25p mode? i'm getting write error lock ups seconds after starting. cinema mode works fine. sandisk SDXC class 10 card should be fine.

i have a 64GB 45MB/s card (SDSDX-064G-X46 ). after a couple of succesfull test i'm now getting the writing speed lock up seconds after starting recording. that's with the vanilla patch, HBR mode. now testing cinema mode. 14 minutes and still running... not sure if this is a card or hack problem.

same here but with vanilla patch. HBR recording mode. cinema seems fine. lost the recording of my gig because of it. should have tested more first...

Axel, thanks for the exhaustive answer! So to recapitulate, the HBR mts file is actually encoded as 25p but reports to be 50i in software? (What's the logic of that?!) In my vague understanding I thought the GH2's sensor/processor grabs 25p but writes it to a 50i file, each p frame to 2 i frames (i guessed it has to do with writing speed). To get the original 25p the 50i file should then be deinterlaced. This is not correct? 

Hi there, Just got my GH2. Having loads of fun with the little beast! There's one thing I'm confused about. Could someone clear this up for me? I'm shooting in HBR 25fps mode (standard 1.1 firmware). The file is 50i. I use RewrapAVCHD to make a more compatible m4v file. This is still 50i. Now if I wanted to downscale and compress this unedited file for example for quick uploading on the net, do I set the compressor to deinterlace (upper field first)? Or does that introduce unneeded quality degradation which is to be prevented with another rewrapping step before transcoding? In other words, do I let the compressor deinterlace to 25p or should that be done earlier? If so, with what OSX tool (preferably freeware)? Tanx for your attention, Dieter

actually my problem with MC is on a snow leopard machine. didn't try my lion desktop yet. it's with a file recorded using the gh2's HBR mode (didn't touch any settings/hacks yet, just unpacked the little beast :])

Hello forum, I came across EOSHD in my search for a still+video camera and figured this would be a good place to drop my question. I'm looking for a camera for documenting my media art projects (end result and development process). I make audiovisual performances and installations, in a 'black box' most of the time. I'm searching for a cam that will perform well in dark environments and will catch the subtleties of the light installations. My current project is especially demanding on the recording equipment. The visual part is all about light projections in the fog of a hazer (smoke machine). Some of the footage at the bottom is shot with a DSLR and shows it much better (although it was done very quick and dirty, little attention payed to setting up optimally). So I'd like to ask for the advice of the readers of this site. What camera would be suitable for this kind of work? My budget is €1000 max. Preferably less. Quality and useability of video is more important than stills. I've read lots of good things about the GH2 and from what I deduce the 14mm F2.5 ASPH pancake lens would be a useful addition for low light work. Though I'm a newcomer to DSLR and lens systems so I might be wrong. Are there other options I should look at?  Best and thanks, Dieter
