1.
I watched that documentary and saw similar things to when you watch a documentary about a classic big budget hollywood film from the 1980's. To me thats gotto be a good thing. Once they slam that flat red raw through all the processing it will look a lot less theatrical and a lot more cinematic. The giant carved wood set looks amazing!
That was really my point. Some of those pre-production scenes from Star Wars were so bad that I can't help but laugh at them. When you add the special effects, sound effects, musical score, and James Earl Jones, it becomes an entirely different movie. Of course, who can say what "The Hobbit" will look like? I'm just saying that at least once in the past, a movie that looked *terrible* in pre-production, looked fantastic when it was finished. BTW, I can't even imagine what the guys who were backing this movie were thinking when they started to see some of these scenes. --Mark

 3. Andrew, Thank you very much for the review.  I've been looking at both the GH2 and the A65 as my next camera.  My situation is a little different than most people in that I use my camera underwater while scuba diving.  I shoot both video and stills, and really need to get a camera that does well at both (right now, I have one video camera and one still camera, and I no longer want to deal with the hassles of two setups). I also have the problem that it is sometimes hard to find underwater housings for cameras (because of the joystick controller on the a77, it doesn't look like there will be any housings for it).  Finally, because of the cost of the housing being 2X or more than the camera itself, I need to stick with the camera I choose far longer than most people. One thing I am curious about is how the 1080p60@24Mb on the a65 compares to the 1080p30@100+Mb on a hacked GH2.  Does the extra temporal resolution of 60FPS have a noticeable effect, or does the far higher spatial resolution of a hacked GH2 at 100+Mb trump any advantage of 1080p60? Finally, underwater is a very low-light situation, so low-light performance is important to me.  A particular problem is that at depth, the color temperature is 19,000K or above.  So, I need a camera that has extreme flexibility to white balance before the 8-bit compression. I look forward to any insight you can give me about either camera. --Mark
