Hi all I'm trying to find the best way to video entire firework displays - I just set up the camera and leave it to record the entire show. I started just by using the default picture profile and manual exposure, but I'm not sure this is the best option. I started with 4k30p 100Mbps, but now use 4k24p, as there is a small crop when using 30p. As such I generally shoot at 1/25, f/4. I use ISO Auto, max ISO1250, as there is a very wide range of effects from dim to bright. When using the default picture profile I definitely need more dynamic range, and the colour sometimes seems a bit desaturated. After doing some research, I decided to use HLG3, which has definitely much improved the dynamic range and colour, however I'm getting awful artefacts that look like compression, mainly in partially lit smoke or foreground (like trees). I think its because the smoke is underexposed because the fireworks themselves are so much brighter, and the light levels are changing very quickly. My video settings are: 1/25, f/4, ISO Auto (max 1250), 4k24p 100Mbps Black Level: 0 Gamma: HLG3 Black Gamma: Middle Colour Mode: BT.2020 Saturation: 0 Colour Phase: +2 Detail: -7 Some examples of the artefacts, some are after some colour editing in Resolve which does eccentuate the problem, but its still visible in the raw footage: https://imgur.com/a/Z1SH8Bx Some of the frames don't look too bad in terms of blockyness/ghosting but they still look a bit off to me, not sure how to describe it - other frames are just terrible. Maybe HLG3 just isn't the right gamma to use for this situation. Anyway, hopefully you can understand the challenges involved with this, so any advice or suggestions on how to improve is much appreciated, based on the picture profile or my settings or anything. I don't really know what I'm doing when it comes to video, especially colour if I'm being honest.
