I just picked up a used Sony FS5 camera. The photos on Ebay seller page weren’t well lit, so I didn’t even realize that it didn’t come with the LCD block. I only paid $1100 for it, but now I see a replacement LCD block costs over $500!
Are there any aftermarket displays that plug into the Sony LCD port?
Also, is this port a Sony proprietary port? I can’t find info on it anywhere. Even the cable costs $200.
I tried using an external HDMI display, but apparently, Sony doesn’t unlock that unless you pay for the raw upgrade. The camera is useless without a display.
This camera also has no upgrades installed. I guess it is a lesson learned, that Sony and others sell cameras that barely function unless you pay at least $1500 in license upgrades.
I can probably buy another FS5 on Ebay, with the LCD and raw upgrade for around $1800, so it doesn’t seem worth it to upgrade this one.
