  1. Or it could be that some find counting their camera's Ks more interesting...
  2. It's not that I find the noise on my S5 ugly or something but I'm currently a bit paranoid so I denoise even the slightest amount of noise and then add film grain.
  3. I’ll only buy a new Panasonic camera if I can get continuous AF with my Helios 44M. Everything else is for amateurs.
  4. You might have to use an RGB mixer inside your NLE right before Film Convert to adjust the greens a bit though. Greens tend to look a bit yellow sometimes with film stocks in general.
  5. And if I remember correctly, it's Film Convert that transforms the input log footage to cineon automatically. You then can either use its film negative stock with its matching print stock or completely disable the print stock and use an external LUT.
  6. I have made a powergrade that converts Panasonic VLog (and CineD and HLG actually) to Arri LogC using the S1Alex color conversion pack. That converted LogC footage is then converted to Cineon before it goes to Film Convert. My most favorite film stocks lately are Kodak 5207 plus Kodak 2383 from Resolve and Fujifilm H400 Pro.
  7. Ok, I don’t claim to be a professional nor am I shooting weddings but I very much like what I see from S5 VLog through emotive color S1Alex LogC conversion then fed to Film Convert. Just a thought…
  8. The lack of 8K 240fps RAW makes it a no go for me. I need to future proof my work.
  9. Has anyone any recent info on how good/accurately works adding motion blur in Davinci Resolve nowadays? Vs that other plugin maybe? I don't intend to throw away my ND filters but a 90 or even 45 degree shutter angle would greatly help with stabilization or optical flow in post.
  10. That's fantastic news! Although new here, this community has been a friendly place for me to exchange opinions without judgement or gear races. Thank you for this awesome website!
  11. Hello friends! Here's the next project: a video shot back in July 2019 in Donousa Island in Greece. As usual for me at the time, so around 2018-2020, I used the 12-32 pancake and the Speedmaster 25mm f/0.95. The GX85 was on 4K 24fps CineD mode. The footage was edited and color graded in Davinci Resolve Studio with Emotive Color S1Alex and FilmConvert Nitrate. About the music part, instruments and effects used include the following: Korg MS-20M, Electro Harmonix Small Stone, DOD Rubberneck, Boss DC-2w, Elektron Analog Heat, Valhalla Supermassive. The environmental sounds are from the actual field recordings during the shooting. The music was composed and mixed in Cubase Pro and mastered in Izotope Ozone.
  12. I desperately need two of those in order to make better videos. Anyone has 20000€ to lend me?
  13. Here’s the next one! The footage here is actually a bit older. It was also shot with the GX85 in 4K 24fps, using the Speedmaster 25mm 0.95 and Lumix 12-32mm pancake on location of Filothei Athens Greece, on 16 April 2019. Edited and color graded in Davinci Resolve Studio with Emotive Color S1Alex. Here I used FilmConvert Nitrate with the print slider turned to zero (as a negative film emulation only) and I used a separate PFE node in the end. About the music: I’ve used the following: Yamaha TX802, DOD Rubberneck, Lexicon MX200, Boss DC-2w, Elektron Analog Heat, Valhalla Supermassive. The environmental sounds are again from the actual field recordings during the shooting. The music was composed and mixed in Cubase Pro and mastered in Izotope Ozone. A note about field recordings: they are heavily processed so as to give this “out of this world” atmosphere but also to cover a bit the fact that they were just recorded with GX85’s internal microphone. At the time I didn’t even have the idea of using the original field recordings as I normally never do for my music videos so it didn’t matter! Future projects will be improved in this regard.
  14. So this one is already posted in the other thread but one more time here for completeness: the footage was shot with the Panasonic Lumix GX85 in 4K 24fps, using the Speedmaster 25mm 0.95 and Lumix 12-32mm pancake on location of Filothei Athens Greece, 9-10 January 2020. I used the Cinelike D profile with contrast, sharpening and noise reduction to -5. I edited and color graded in Davinci Resolve Studio with Emotive Color S1Alex and FilmConvert Nitrate. About the music: I've used the following instruments and effects: Kawai K5000R, EHX Small Stone, DOD Rubberneck, Lexicon MX200, Boss DC-2w, Elektron Analog Heat, Valhalla Supermassive. The environmental sounds are from the actual field recordings during the shooting. The music was composed and mixed in Cubase Pro and mastered in Izotope Ozone.
  15. So I thought I’d devote a new thread to this as it’s an ongoing project that I’d love to share with this beautiful community. As some of you may know, apart from the fact that I’m new to this forum, I’m not a professional cinematographer or colorist. I’m a musician, I teach and compose music and since 2018 I’m trying to incorporate moving images to my creative projects. So I have not a great experience in cinematography. It became a passion for me though since I bought my first camera, a Panasonic GX85 with 12-32 pancake back in 2018. It soon became clear to me that I wanted to create projects which would include both music and video so I started reading, watching tutorials and experimenting on the field. I soon bought more lenses for the GX85 and then I found my old Soviet Zenit and its two lenses: a Helios 44M-4 and a MIR-1B. Soon after came a focal reducer and more vintage lenses: a Carl Zeiss Tessar 50mm 2.8, a Pentacon 50mm 1.8, a Pentacon 30mm 3.5 and then a Mitakon Speedmaster 25mm 0.95. I’ve shot a tonne of footage with the GX85 and edited in Hitfilm Express but after a while I moved to the studio version of Davinci Resolve and never looked back. I love this camera and still use it today, although more as a B camera to the S5 that I bought earlier this year bundled with the 20-60mm for a good price. The S5 was accompanied by some more lenses, a Jupiter-9 and a nice and sensibly priced Canon FD set: the 28mm 2.8, the 50mm 1.4 and the 100mm 2.8. Although the S5 is generally on another league, the footage from the small and humble GX85 has indeed a very interesting quality and with a bit of careful post production it can be gorgeous. The thread from fellow member @kye on the GX85 made me dig deep in my hard disks for older footage from the GX85 that I hadn’t used in any of my music videos and I could use for a new project: Ambient Works. This will be an ongoing project, a sort of a creative diary that documents simple moments like a walk on the mountain or a trip to the sea. The footage will be accompanied by atmospheric soundscapes and original electronic ambient music. I’ll also be using S5 footage in the future. The main goal of this project is to work as a motive and inspiration to just go out and shoot! I’ll be posting the results in this thread, also trying to document some basic technical aspects of each video (such as camera settings, lenses used and post processing workflow) as accurately as I can. Who knows? It could be an interesting experiment. Let’s see how it goes!
  16. Thank you very much! I just started shooting with a "real" camera (rather than a phone) only back in 2018 so I'm rather new to this whole thing. These shots are back from 2019 and 2020 and I was about to trash them thinking that I've got much better recent shots. But this thread made me think: why not try to do something thith them? One thing I've noticed is that I really need to do a light denoising with Neat Video before I color grade the footage. With that m43 sensor I can spot the noise (and codec compression artifacts) even on ideal situations contrary to my S5...
  17. Thanks a lot! Yes, on some of the first shots I had by mistake a too cool WB and tried to fix that a bit in post, still not perfect. From the sunny shots onwards I had the correct WB. Duhhh…😁 I think that the lens was mainly the Speedmaster 25mm 0.95 although now that I think about it a few of the sunny shots where with…*drum roll*…the 12-32mm pancake!
  18. So I found lots of older footage shot with the GX85 that I hadn’t used in any other project and I started experimenting a bit with color grading. My main activity is music so I create videos for my music. Normally I have a specific concept for the videos but a lot of times I just want to go out and shoot. So I have a lot of footage that I hadn’t used till now, when the idea came to my mind: I’ll create a series of, let’s say “cinematic ambient” videos, something like an online creative diary of simple moments, walks on the mountain and so on. This is an ongoing project and I’m very excited about it. I’ll use footage, actual field recordings and original minimalistic ambient music atmospheres. Let’s see how it goes! First attempt here, because of the awful YouTube compression better watch it in 4K 😉:
  19. To me between the S5 and the A7III I would take the S5 any day of the week, especially for video. The image quality is so much better in my opinion. The A7IV could be a bit tempting but apart from the AF which I personally almost never use, I can't think of anything that would make me want it especially in the projected price. Not to mention the aggressive noise reduction that can't be turned off even on the more expensive A7SIII. Thanks but no thanks! 😁
  20. According to this: https://www.cined.com/panasonic-lumix-s5-lab-test-rolling-shutter-dynamic-range-and-latitude/ 21ms rolling shutter in FF mode and 10.5ms in APS-C mode! The S5 is not a bad APS-C camera at all! 😜
  21. They are, although I’m not sure what’s the difference between CineD on the GX85 and CineD 2 on the S5. I’ve done quite a bit of comparison shots between the two cameras in order to see if I can match them better using the S1Alex and they where almost indistinguishable from each other with a bit of WB and tint fiddling. I don’t have a color checker though, I’ve done mostly landscape type shots hence my tests are not scientific. Unfortunately I’ve deleted the files from my hard disks when I was done so I don’t have anything to show you but would be happy to try something if you have any ideas. Mind you I’m writing from Germany so it’s not exactly full of colors outside! Could still worth a try though.
  22. Yes I started using Resolve Studio about one and a half year ago and still trying to learn it. My latest experiment with both the GX85 and S5 is firstly a tiny bit of halation and glow, then a bunch of S1Alex nodes (I’ve saved the whole thing so it’s just drag and drop) and then a CST node to Cineon so to apply Resolve’s Kodak 2383 film stock emulation.
  23. I have the S1Alex Alexa conversion which I’m using with the S5 with great success. It’s for V-Log footage but includes conversions for HLG and CineD which I’m also using. So as much as I understand that it’s not the same camera, I’m currently experimenting with using the conversion on CineD footage from the GX85. I have not made many tests yet (let alone scientific ones!) but to my eyes the GX85 footage behaves in a similar way so the end result is pretty close.
