  1. Hi, I don’t see much in the way of filmmaking on the forum so keen to see who is up to what and to share any works in progress? So I’ll go first! I am working on a pilot 3 part series. Its presenter driven and follows a solo female traveller to three awesome locations. The first one we shot in Tonga, and is currently in post. Hopefully this will secure some further funding and attention to become the three part series in mind. I didn't find the right solution from the Internet. 2. Hi, Wetpixel posted Jonathan Bird's excellent article listing his thoughts about the advantages of video camera over SLRs for filmmaking on the front page. The aim in doing so was to create a debate about the relative merits of each type of camera. For More Details: Animated Explainer Video
  3. Hi, I'd like to start by thanking the many of you that posted in my last thread as I looked into projector options and have helped me frame the foundation of our theater build. Dreamer in particular has been very helpful for the display issues. I've decided on the Sony for the projector. Budget won't stretch much higher if I'm to include an anamorphic lens configuration as well. I've looked at Panamorph, and I know there are a few other brands for sale in the classifieds section to consider, but I'm a bit confused about some of the options. It looks like the panamorph is a fixed lens that requires the image to be squeezed back to a 16:9 ratio for HDTV and internal vertical stretching to eliminate the top and bottom black bars for cinemascope options. This also seems to require the projector to be rotated 45 degrees for the lens to function. Is that accurate? Are there setting presets that I can store to allow the squeeze and vertical stretch to switch back and forth without playing with the settings every time? Can anyone comment on the benefit of a motorized or non-permanent lens solution? Is it worth the premium in price? I didn't find the right solution from the Internet. 4. Hi, This forum doesn't seem to be getting much traffic these days, but if anyone can answer my questions, I'd like to understand a couple of things: 1. Why are anamorphic lenses, like the UH480, so expensive? and 2. Do any of the DIY versions of said lenses compare favorably with the store-bought versions? I didn't find the right solution from the Internet. References: http://www.avsforum.com/forum/174-diy-constant-height/2470065-why-anamorphic-lenses-so-expensive.html Explainer Video studio Thanks
  5. Hi, Based on how the colorimeter is not the best light meter, I wonder just how bright that projector I used in the 2m tall CIH system is with an actual light meter. At the time of hand over, I measured 23FL on that massive 203" screen with my colorimeter. That was post calibrated as well. So it would be interesting to get back in there and take some more measurements. For More Details: Motion graphics video animation studio
  6. Hi, I know some local lens makers makes 35mm film anamorphic and would like to know the details about making anamorphic lens for video projectors. I need the sizes. I read some where that it involves to prisms sliding along the diagonal creates the stretch. If anybody knows details to make lens, I get try work with my folks and may be we all can get lens cheaper. For More Details: Animated video production agency
  7. Hi, Finally a camera that's been designed from the bottom up for use on octocopters! I'm hoping this will work with the lumix powerzoom lenses unlike the pocket camera. Being able to zoom in and out using the lanc without the need for a motor and ring on the lens would be sweet! For More Details: Animated explainer video production agency
  8. Hi, The original BMPCC used a m4/3 mount but a smaller sensor, meaning that all m4/3 lenses had a narrower field of view than with a m4/3 camera. That was one reason I didn't buy the BMPCC. Blackmagic will be announcing a new 4K BMPCC on Monday at NAB, so it'll be interesting to see whether the new camera will house a full sized m4/3 sensor. With cameras such as the new Z Cam E2 also hosting a m4/3 sensor and providing 4K, the competition is hotting up. 9. Hi, I've never used a BMC before. I'm really interested in getting the mini but of course I want to see footage shot by others first. The specs on the the BMD site say it will shoot 160 frames at 1080 and 60 at 4k. Will the image still be full framed or does it turn into a crop? If it's cropped say using a 15mm what millimeter will it be shooting at? Please help. I didn't find the right solution from the Internet. 11. Hi, I'm looking for a an aspect ratio lens for a super 16mm that looks like 1.85, hell even 2.40:1 if I can find it. I've only shot on regular 16mm (1.37), and want a nice wide aspect for my senior project. Not for the look, but my production demands it due to my compositions. Is super 16mm kind of close to 1.85? is there a wider aspect available for the Arriflex super 16? Please help. I didn't find the right solution from the Internet. 12. Hi, film n00b over here. I'm looking into buying some Rokinon Cine lenses for my Blackmagic Production 4K. In addition I would like to make my footage anamorphic and I've come across a number of solutions. I'm looking into getting a Proskar 16mm 2x adapter or a Schneider Cinelux 2X with a focus module. My only concern is compatibility with the lenses I want. I'm not so sure how compatibility works in terms of the diameter of the adapter. Is there an upper bound to the diameter of the taking lens that I can use with these anamorphic adapters? I have a video shoot coming in the next couple of months and I was planning on renting some Xeen cine lenses and I'm wondering if I could still use the anamorphic adapter with those lenses. They tend to have a much larger diameter. Also, regarding the size of the image, I've seen numerous demonstrations on YouTube of 2X lenses and my only concern is the height of the image. Some of these demos have these gigantic black bars that take up most of the space on the screen, but others don't. If one were to watch something like La La Land on a computer screen, the image would be just the right height even though they also used Cinemascope for their movie. How can I increase the height of my image with a 2x anamorphic adapter? Are they zooming into the picture to gain more height and cropping some of the sides or is this more about the camera’s crop factor? For instance the production camera has a crop factor of 1.7x while the Ursa has a 1.8x crop factor. Would I get a closer result to what I want with an URSA mini as opposed to the production camera? Please help. I didn't find the right solution from the Internet. 14. Hi, I did not know of another place to put this so I am putting it here. I was wondering if there could be an option to have a tap to shoot button instead of tapping on the screen because this is often a difficult thing for me. I think it would be a nice option and other people would like it too. For more Details: Custom explainer studio
  15. Hi, We have access to a Panasonic DVX-100 (not the 100A). We are planning to film a short this summer and I'd like it to be in 24p 16x9 anamorphic and all that. But, we need to get some kind of special anamorphic attachement for it. Does anyone know where I can get one of these anamporphic lenses or whatever, and how much it'll be? Please help. I didn't find the right solution from the Internet.
