  1. I'm going to make the crazy suggestion that perhaps he doesn't need 4K

So instead a few to consider are: Panasonic G6/GX7, Sony A5100/A6000, or Nikon D5200/D5300/D7100.

Not a bad suggestion if he's just starting out. 1080p is much easier to work with for most home editing systems, and I was damn impressed by the quality from my little Sony A6000 when hooked up to a good lens. Shame it didn't have an external mic jack, but for the price the image it was fantastic.

  2. Don't expect any miracles from a 5k imac on this point. As I mentioned on iffmpeg post, it is as fast (or as slow) as my 2013 macbook pro retina (15inch). And I got the imac with the upgraded processor and gpu.

Anecdotal confirmation I guess, I just transcoded a one minute NX1 DCI file to Prores in iffmpeg on a fully decked 5k iMac (upgraded processor, GPU, 32gb RAM) and it came to roughly 7 and half minutes. I find the extra time is worth it for the 4k and image quality compared to my other gear, depending on the project, but still a wait.

  3. Hey Stakers, have you found a solution to this issue yet? I just purchased the Nx1 and found the same exact issue. Walked through 1.1 and 1.2 updates and it doesn't appear to have been fixed.  All UHD and DCI video in the 24p and 25p manual recording modes shows this shutter related issue.
