  1. Great advice Ronnie, thank you! I'll do it! Which is the best way to work whit files like those (24p and 30p from Luke's GH5)? Transcoding? It is better before importing in the NLE with an external software or inside the NLE? Excuse me if I ask, but it is the first time I have those problems, never had issues like this with ProRes 10 bit from GH4 + BMD Video Assist, Pocket and Micro Cinema Camera... :/
  2. Nick Driftwood suggested me to buy "Movist" to preview the clips, since I am not able to download El Capitan from italian AppStore. I'll give it a try.
  3. Thank you very much Axel! I'd love to install El Capitan, but App Store just give me Sierra as option and I cannot install it since I use some audio software that are not still compatible with Sierra. Do you know where I can legally find El Capitan? Thank you and excuse me for bothering you!
  4. I don't understand why I can play and preview smoothly ProRes 422 10 bit from GH4's HDMI (recorded out to external recorder) and ProRes 10 bit from BMD Micro and Pocket and not those from GH5. The GH5's files are all .MP4 4K, some in 24 and 30 fps, other in 60 fps. I can only preview the 60p files. Have I to update my iMac? Excuse me for asking, but I don't understand it and I don't want to transcode etc.. because it's time consuming, I need to preview footage before importing it in NLE for editing. Thank you
  5. I downloaded the footage: the 60p (snow and waterfall) footage plays perfectly on a late 2013 iMac (Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB, 8 GB Ram, 2,7 GHz i5). The other footage plays smoothly in FCPX but no preview was possible. Also VLC was stuttering. Do you know what I have to do in order to see them normally? (Never had preview problems before with BMD ProRes 422 10 bit). Anyway in my opinion the files are great. I hope my computer can handle them when I'll buy the GH5. Here a super quick grading test (please note that I'm not a professional colorist, I normally grade my footage since I have no budget to pay a colorist). Ciao
  6. Thank you very much @Neumann Films Luke for letting us download the files Since I shoot a lot handheld with old lenses I'm very interested about the stabilization: I saw M. Uematsu's interview and he said (at 05:18") that 5 axis stabilization only works with Panasonic lenses. Is that true or does it works also with manual lenses? I mean there is at least 3 axis stabilization with third part lenses? I shot almost 3 years with GH4, how are the ISO performances and the V-LogL performance indoor on the GH5? I ask because I sold the GH4 recently and I'm using the G7 in this moment, waiting for the GH5, and in my opinion the G7 (in 4k) performs better then the GH4 in low light situations. Of course it is a lot less professional, it has less features and the 1080 is not comparable. Thank you very much!
  7. Thank you very much! I used the strap only on the first couple of shots. For the one at 0:10 I tried to use the straps to simulate the Wing ( https://www.edelkrone.com/eu/p/187/wing ). The Olympus 12-40 was on 40mm. For the shot at 0:13 I started very high with the camera and I went down on my knees, the lens was set to 12mm, in order to have more parallax. Of course I had to try 4 or 5 times in order to have a decent shot that during the editing I had to stabilize (and crop) a little. Some shots were with tripod: the voodoo-witch indoor (but not the OTS shot indoor, that were handheld), the dancing, the curly girl when in close up and some wide shots. On some shots I just put the camera down to the ground. All the rest was totally handheld with no strap, especially the playback that was shot very quickly and very shaky on purpose. For the playback I took the camera in my hands, the right hand on the G7 grip, the left hand on the lens (the Olympus 12-40, on 25mm for the wide shot, on 40mm for the close up) for pulling focus. The other lens were the CY Zeiss 80-200 f/4 (for the curly girl's close up, for a couple of guy's walking and for the dancing), the CY Zeiss 35 f/2.8 for the medium shot of the voodoo-witch, the CY Zeiss 50 f/1.7 for the indoor close up and OTS, all always at the widest aperture possible. All the rest (playback, walking etc...) was the Olympus 12-40 f/2.8, mostly at 25mm and 40mm. For the playback I used an HOYA Pro ND 16. The video was shot very quickly, so I had no time to setup follow focus, cages, stabilizer etc.. (I had a mini-gimbal some months ago, it was quite good but 99% of the time I had no time to balance it so I sold it. After some research I tried an Ikan Beholder DS-1 which I did not like at all, a super nice Zhiyun Crane - great, but no assistance in Italy, so I did not buy it - and now I've bought a FlyCam HD300 with vest, but it arrived las week). Anyway for music video with super low budget like this one I prefer to work with some technical limitations (no follow focus, no external monitor, no rigs), mostly handheld to be as mobile and as quick as possible, in order to spend all the time trying to achieve a nice framing and lighting. The cuts in editing are quite fast, so the handheld look it is not too disturbing to me For any questions just ask, I'm here
  8. Thank you very much! I'll tell your kind words to the artist!
  9. I shot that video a couple of week ago, but I'm going to set the contrast as you suggest in the guide, because the colors you gave us are AWESOME, so I want to record the best file possible in order to process it with your color science! I think that it is just crazy not using your profile: hours of work for getting right skin tones in 1 click! No Artist playing guitar, indoor scene and night scene are G7. All the rest (walking in the nature, girl, dancing etc..) is GH4
  10. Ciao! This is a music video I shot with GH4 and G7 (both with Natural profile, saturation -5, contrast -5). I shot it very quickly: two afternoon and an evening, one week between the 2 days of shooting and in that time I sold the GH4, so the second day of shooting was with the G7. I shot all handheld without shoulder rig except for a part of the indoor shot with the voodoo witch, where I used a tripod while she mix the potion. The drone scenes are shot on DJI Phantom 3 Professional (not mine, we called a pilot), which is a little too "digital" for my taste. I used Andrew's EOSHD Pro Color for Panasonic and I'm really happy about the skin tones and the overall colors. I also used FilmConvert's Kodak Vision3 5207 with grain 20%. Thank you Andrew p.s.: can you spot which is the GH4 and which is the G7?
  11. I've bought yesterday and I'm using on a music video I shot with both GH4 and G7 (Natural -5, Contrast - 5). I'm using it at 80% since the profile I used while shooting was not the one Andrew suggest, but I can guarantee that the skintones become just awesome. As soon the video will be out I'll post it here. Thank you Andrew!
  12. Wow!! I look forward to watch this GH4 movie, especially for the cinematography that look great!
  13. Wow, some of the best GH4 footage I ever seen! Zak, are you also actor?
  14. I sold my GH4 and I'm using my 2nd body (G7, which is great, but I miss some extra features from the GH4) and look forward to buy the GH5 as soon as possible, of course if the images will be good
  15. I totally agree with Andrew: as guitar player I worked for 10 years in one of the best selling guitar magazine from Italy, AXE Magazine. Our Editor always wanted the truth about the guitar's and gear's performance. No space for sponsored articles or "nice" reviews. We had advertising but clearly visible like 1 page or half page or 1/4 page. No matter if Gibson or Fender could be offended by a sentence. People and companies trusted us because we always try to test the guitars in their price tag and for the performances. Rarely we had problems, because if you separate the "professional" opinion from the relationship - that should be good exactly for that reason- it is always better for all.
  16. Great shots! What did you use to color grade? I have quite the same setup: I have some problems to attach the G7 to my flycam since the quickrelease plate I have is too big for the camera, so I have to attach it directly, but it is time consuming. What do you use for your?
  17. I'd go with Olympus 12-40. For video is far better: the focus ring has hard stops in manual mode, the overall quality is better (metal construction, splash proof etc). It is a real PRO lens. If you can afford also the Olympus 40-150 it is a killer combo.
  18. I normally use manual exposure and try to stay true to 180° with ND filter etc., but sometimes, especially in music videos I just use an insane shutter speed in order to achieve a shallow depth of field if I have to. If I shoot in slow motion I can go up to 1/8000. For normal narrative things it is better to stay as close as possible to 1/50 in order to have a classic motion blur look. Normally I try to not underexpose more then 2 stops and to not overexpose, but sometimes (today for example) I have to clip a sky in order to shoot a nice backlight scene with flares etc and to see something of the talent's without a reflector panel. It's not the best thing to do but it could work.
  19. No, just going from a normal eye level shot to a low angle, twisting the wrist, in order to simulate a crane shot from face to feet of a talent. (sorry for my english if it is not clear) The first screw was made of plastic, the second one was like the one on Michael Ma pic.
  20. They changed from a plastic one to a metallic one. The bigger vibrations was going down from a normal angle to a low angle (tilting the wrist) and going from left to right, also while tilting the wrist.
  21. I tried the Crane last week with my Panasonic G7 and 2 lenese (12-40 Olympus and CY Zeiss 50): amazing piece of gear with 2 big problems. The most important: no assistance in Italy, if something goes wrong you have to send it in China. The less important: some vibrations when going from up to a low angle (in all mode). It was a little better using a different screw for the camera. Another issue was that after some use it was not parallel to the ground anymore, and I had to use the iPhone's app to reset to a flat position. Nothing really bad if you shoot a short or a music video, a little bad for events etc... The smoothness for pan is not that smooth, but perfectly acceptable. The biggest reason I did not buy is for the assistance: I need something I can easily fix in Italy. But if you don't mind that it is an incredible tool, easy to balance (probably less then 2 minutes), FAR better then DS-1 Beholder I tried last month. Jonpais, try to change the screw that you use to attach the camera, maybe it could help.
  22. I have a secret magic camera that I can sell you, but you have to pay me $99K if you want it!
  23. Great! Also curious about the 360 camera and plugin
