  1. For me After Effects is just as critical as having an editor. I know BM has Fusion, but it's just not there. I also use Photoshop frequently, but I'm sure that could be replaced with something else. With that said I'd love to see BM's suite catch up. I'd switch.
  2. Interesting idea but doesn't really solve the main problem, which is that consumers no longer really buy any more. Between Pandora, Netflix, Amazon, and Redbox the habits of most have been set against long form content creators. Not to mention that if I were to buy, from where and what would I purchase? Blu ray? 4K? Soon HDR? Or should they buy digitally from Amazon, iTunes, Vudu? The amount of options paralyzes consumers. I realize this is not an axiom, but it's mostly true. Unfortunately independent content creators need people to buy, which people just don't really do anymore.
  3. The colors of that are just so good. Crazy good. Doesn't really get better than that good. Yah. If they could improve RS and maybe add IBIS, I would snap this up faster than whatever.
  4. Officially my new favorite term for the film look. Gonna have to work on getting some patina into my GH5 footage.
  5. Man I so badly want to have that camera. I have the GH5 and have to keep reminding myself that the look is only 1 part of the equation. The shortcomings of the DB and the virtues of the GH5 are impossible for me to ignore for telling stories. But I just really really really love that image. It's like an onion... makes me cry. Why oh why can't someone put that sensor in a dslr sized body. And, can a manufacturer return to CCD tech? Is a 4K CCD possible?
  6. The phrasing of that post is definitely several notches better than my typical gooder grammar skillz. That said, those videos were hilarious. My 12 year old daughter loves to cook and she is going to love watching those. I can never guess the camera right. My first guess was going to be F3 just because I think you have one. But then I remembered you were doing sound. Then I thought maybe GH5, but only because that's a hot topic. Or C200. Or 70mil film. Meh. iPhone 8?
  7. This cam is slowly winning me over. Wish I had an extra 6 grand lying around.
  8. I think you're going to hate mx sensor. BM is not perfect either. Having used both I'd go with BM. Plenty others would say different. As much as I love BM and hate Canon the C200 is attractive if put in the right perspective. Still flawed though and there's no perfect cam.
  9. Page 185. In future you can download the pdf manual and do a word search. I searched for image sequence, Which is what I believe you'll need.
  10. Which Apple Store did you work at? I worked at the one in Otay Ranch down in SD for about a year and a half. Also, which mountain town are your folks in, if that's not too straightforward?
  11. My understanding of what JCS is saying is that all film, even modern, is not as precise as digital. In other words, film is mechanical, not electronic, and therefore there are some extremely subtle variances to the way it records. These variances could be both temporal and positional. Unlike digital which will be perfect. I don't think we're talking about massive skipping and stuttering, I think we're talking about nearly imperceptible flaws that make a film feel alive the way digital, video, often does not.
  12. Good idea. That's one more thing for me to experiment with. But also begs the question as to why some cameras, take black magic for instance, have such a good feel of motion, when it's very doubtful that they are playing with temporal values in camera. One more question, should we all be shooting at 24P and distributing at 23.98?
  13. This is exactly what I was wondering. Might be a simple expression for After Effects like wiggle with very low values. I'm going to experiment.
  14. Kaylee, this is a great idea and something that I have been toying with too. As far as selling you or your idea, I don't know that I can offer much help. I am personally at the point where I no longer care who watches or buys. Doing is enough for me. With that said, I support whatever you make and whatever length it ends up. Please keep us all up to date.
  15. So in another thread about the newly released EVA1 footage, discussion came up about it's "motion", in that it doesn't have very cinematic motion. First impressions suggest that it has great color, but poor motion. Which led me to start wondering, what specific tech affects motion? Long GOP vs All-I. My understanding would be that this probably affects motion as much as anything. However, to my knowledge, the EVA1 is shooting ALL-I. Secondly, rolling shutter. I have no idea on the rolling shutter specs for EVA1, but to my knowledge the GH5 is somewhere around 15ms, and I can't imagine the EVA1 would be worse. I didn't notice any poor rs problems in any of the footage. The original BMCC cam for instance, has ALL-I prores and I believe even worse (than GH5) rs, but is popularly described as having very cinematic motion cadence. So what else is there? How can we more clearly put our finger on the mystique of motion tech? EDIT: I failed to mention fps as another factor. Seems so obvious it skipped my mind. Let's assume 24 or 25 fps.
  16. I've been in a really bad internet connection situation for while and just now this morning was able to watch Radio 88 for the first time. This piece rocked, on many levels. Never once did I think the footage looked bad or had bad motion or whatever. I would like to see more daylight pieces. The desert one, was really poorly done. The desert is kinda my thing. I wish I had a go at the EVA1 in el desierto. I really am looking forward to seeing this camera in the hands of many others. Also, to seeing some raw footage.
  17. I'm guessing they had to do T2.6 to cover aps-c.
  18. This is a great suggestion Jon. However, the one Veydra that I'd be interested in is the 19mm. On their site it is listed as a T2.6, the only lens that slow in their line-up. However, the most recent news update is that their "new" 19mm T2.2 is on it's way. However, that (most recent) post was from April......... 2016. So, what has happened since then? And why have they stopped posting? Did the 19 2.2 ever see daylight? Do you know of any updates?
  19. Personally I'd suggest a speed boosted one. That one lens with speed booster and additionally non speed boosted adapter and using ETC, which I just learned about today, could give you a 38mm, 54mm, 60mm, and 84mm lens, with the worst aperture being 1.4. Its an aps-c lens to my knowledge. Not full frame.
  20. Well, hopefully the functionality issues get sorted because the look and feel of the new design is crackin'. Btw, is there a way to link to a specific comment? Not just page 3 of such and such thread, but where the browser automatically scrolls to the intended comment.
  21. Give the like counter a little tappy tap.
  22. Yes. Buy once, you will have free upgrades to future releases.
  23. That would be sweet. Particularly seeing this on skin. Jon, could you help me with the math? So, let's say I have 28mm lens. Then I use a metabones .64x speed booster. That lens is now a 17.92mm, lets round up to 18mm. Then I double for the GH5 crop, and it's 35mm equiv is 36mm. Then with ETC, it is 36x1.4=50. So the 35mm equiv of a 28mm lens on a GH5 with .64x speed booster with ETC enabled is roughly 50mm. Is my math correct?
