​I know a lot of people don't like to trust DXOMark, but I read something from them a while back that confirmed what you're saying. That as the sensor resolution increases the resolving power of the lens does as well. I'm not sure how that works, seems like it shouldn't. But they claim it does and your own observations seem to back this up.

​I think the 7DmkII was the harbinger of what to expect from Canon DSLR video for the foreseeable future.

My understanding is that Canon is investing in H.265. They have even contributed to the codec for expanding it to 10bit and 4:2:2 and 4:4:4.

This sharing of large video files seems like a good use case for bittorrent.
