  1. We can try a test with the 4:2:0 1080p we have now on current cameras. Shoot a clip that has banding or green screen and reduce it to 1/4 1080p or 480x270 pixels on a 16bit After effects timeline after doing the conversion to cineform 10 bit. If the 8bit codec sample is cured of banding and you get a clean key then the theory holds true. It will be the same average but down-sampled to 1/4 HD res.
  2. This recent DVX discussion seems to suggest that the 4:4:4 you get are not the same as real acquired 4:4:4. You get more info per pixel but not any new color information. The Hues that you get in 10bit from initial will not be there, you will only reduce artifacts and noise which is better but not true 10bit. DVX Discussion on 4k 4:2:0 to 1080p 4:4:4 Until we get footage from the GH4 and we process it this way to clear banding and do green screen work, we will probably never know for sure because the codec implementation could be the deciding factor here.
  3. 7D Mk II specs will probably be underwhelming considering the track record of Canon in Video for DSLRs. It will probably have much better ISO performance than the 7D and ad a couple of MP to the equation. My educated guess is that the 7D mk II will be this: -20MP ISO 25600 Better Hi Iso Performance than original 7D. -Firt ever hybrid Canon Viewfinder, changes to EVF for Video and Silent Shooting mode.- This will be the killer feature! -Phase detect CMOS like the 70D for improved AF in Video mode. -AF in stills will be improved in some minor way. -1080p 60 at long last -Same 4:2:0 video to card. Same 5D Mk III bit rates. -Touch screen capacitive- NO Flip Out screen -Still some aliasing but reduced video moire just like the 5D Mk III -Same softness as 5D Mk III will need post sharpening. Not GH quality 1080p. -Wifi plus assisted GPS -NO 4k of any kind -Headphone jack -USB 3.0 Transfers from Camera -Center sensor crop EX Tele mode like the GH series for video. -SDHC and CF slots -HDR Photo mode like other recent cams. I would be surprised if this extra stuff was included: 720p 120 4:2:2 HDMI out 1080p 8 or 10 bits Time Code NAB rollout?
  4. Bryan, I think your video was the best of the bunch and showcased the capabilities of the camera really well. Love the Tulum shots in the aerial. Wonder how you got away with people free pyramid views as it is normally a tourist nightmare. I noticed some heavy moire in the green macaw shot feathers but I have no access to a 4k monitor. I get a bit of that on macaws and other birds on the GH2 but wonder if this was pronounced by scaling down to 1080p. Would love to see a downloadable frame of that exact shot at 4k to see the detail if you could share, but I guess Panasonic is the one that releases that. The parrot you shot with the white forehead on the tree tops is a White Fronted Amazon Parrot who specializes in eating guava fruits. Congrats again on the video! _____________ As far as 4:2:2 why not shoot everying at 4k and scale down to 1080p as the Andrew article points out. It becomes a non issue. I still think they should have implemented 200mbits at 4k not just 1080 and 120fps on HD. That hype on 120p rumors sure got the best of us. 96 is still pretty good if it has no image quality downgrade. from Samuel H. at DVX "A 4K image with 8-bit 420 color has enough information to give you a 2K image with 10-bit luminance and 8-bit 444 color."
