  1. here's the name: Blackmagic Micro Cinema Camera. 13 stops of DR.

PWM and S.Bus option is really nice. Many nice, small cameras are difficult to use as an aerial cam because theres no way to control them remotely. It looks like BM built this to be an aerial cam from the beginning. Hopefully it has the ability to output video while recording internally.

  2. Not every camera needs to shoot video. Especially if its a half-assed video mode thats only there because everyone else has one. I shoot 90% stills and 10% video and that 10% has grown a lot since I discovered Magic Lantern Raw for my 5D3. I dont clam to be any expert in video but before ML Raw I was always disappointed by the lack of quality in DSLR and most mirrorless video when compared to the stills from the same cameras.

My point is kudos to Nikon for building a tool that does one thing and (presumably) does it well.

  3. The RX1 is great because of its integrated lens which lets it keep a compact size. A full-frame, ILC with a EVF and high end glass attached is still going to be a big camera; probably close to the size of an SL1 and you still have to carry full size lenses. I prefer small M43 cameras as second bodies because with a 14mm or 20mm lens theyre small enough to carry in a pocket.

  4. It produces a file M000000*.RAW, a single file.  Then you use raw2dng.exe to convert it into still DNG frames, in the hundreds or thousands.  Very crude at this point but it works.  I'm following Andrew and using After Effects to compile them all into a timeline and then rendering into ProRes 422HQ for edit in Premiere Pro.

As a stills shooter I find this intriguing.
