I agree, that test shot, I did not like. Though it might be based on the shooters taste. Waiting for more samples :D

shooters taste aside, he got the gh3 before anyone else and all he does with it is shoot random stuff in the streets?
Really?

What about challenging the camera to see what it is capable off?

Go through high dynamic range setups, test the rolling shutter, duplicate the shots with the gh2 to compare, make a video with the different iso ranges to see which ones are usable, test the different video formats, movie modes, test to see how well the footage holds up in post-production with the new codec etc...etc...

I know most likely he will come up with more vids, but I don't think I am being too demanding of gh3 testers to come up with something more than a cat on a chair shot with no preparation what so ever

Yep...We definitely need to learn a lot more.
So far there have been some really great things, but I feel a lot of reservation about buying this camera.
I havent seen anything (yet) that beats the GH2 as far as video is converned in terms of clarity (I dont like to use the word sharpness...cause I have mine to -2)...just detail...good solid clean detail.
Where was it in those room shots especially the wider ones, it was really soft (everything was), it just amazes me people cant see that.
I know the GH2 has the limited dynamic range, but if you shoot in the right circumstances it is not a big issue really (for me)
and the Zacuto shootout showed that also.
But that softness would get to me, its what I did not like about the 5D Mk 3 ...although the GH3 is not nearly as bad, it does not look (from these early videos) to look as detailed as the GH2 sadly...I hope I am wrong, I want to be wrong.
We will see.

I'm still not getting it, my 5dII with Alexs hack can record above 50mbit/sec h.264, so that's hardly game changing. All-I is an inefficient codec that has shown to not substantially increase image quality, I suppose the one advantage is those on slow macs won't have to transcode all their footage to be able to edit.

60fps is not particularly slow motion and totally pointless otherwise.

Still no confirmation on the clean HDMI output.

The build quality is much higher, but in the way that makes it seem more like a travel camera.

gh2 out of the box at 24mbs is better quality than your 5dmk2 at 50mbs with proper lighting. Bitrate isnt everything, but the way the gh range acquire the footage from the sensor is different meaning a bitrate increase on this is going to add worlds more quality than a bitrate increase on any 5d. Add into the equation the increase on DR (a weak point of the gh2) and professional body, and the price being less than half a 5dmk3 and the excitement amongst film makers is justified. 60p full hd on the gh3 will probably be about 4 times sharper than 720 60p on the 5d. Twixtor with 60p is nuts - dont knock it till you tried it.

The only reason for a 5D in movie making nowadays is when you cannot light a public place enough for lesser low light machines to work. And this single advantage is soon to be killed off by the upcoming Sony full frame camcorder. The full frame is a disadvantage for all other types of work IMO

You understand that when the GH2 first came out you couldn't get it anywhere for over 3 months. Announced in September 2010, it wasn't until March 2011 that there were significant quantities in the US. Only people in Japan and asia were able to get them in 2010. So you can harp on Black Magic all you want, but Panasonic had significant problems supplying anything M43. This includes their awesome pancake lenses, Leica 25mm, batteries... the list goes on. I hope that Panasonic gets their ass in gear and produces mass quantities of the GH3, otherwise it could be well into 2013 until we even see any in the US.

I did not know about the gh2 delays as I bought mine recently.

Sadly it seems to be the trend regardless of the company but that does not mean it is any less unacceptable.
Preorder our product that we say we ship in January, but wait actually it will be shipped in march, and by the way when we say we will ship it in march we mean we will ship 50 units for the whole world...
Can't believe this happens so much...that's just bullshit

KarimNassar reacted to QuickHitRecord in GH2 ISO tests: Rethinking the ISO bug & ISO 320 cleaner than ISO 160?
It's the eleventh hour for the GH2, but it will still be a few months before I have its replacement in my hands so I am still trying to get the best possible performance out of it. And I'd still like to hang onto it as a B-cam, but not until I work some issues out.

I did a full-range ISO test of my GH2 with the Flowmotion 2.02 settings, starting at 12800 and working my way down to 160. I did this after reading a little more about the GH2 ISO bug. Initially, I had read that if you wanted to use ISOs 320, 640 or 1250, you had to switch the camera on and first go to any higher ISO, and then back to one of these three to minimize noise. Then I did some more reading on Personal-View and apparently what you want to do is go to the next ISO increment up, and then back down to the desired setting (so if you want ISO 320, go to ISO 400, then back to 320; if you want 640, go to 800, then back to 640). This seemed to result in a MUCH cleaner image than my initial tests with the first image. The footage is pretty usable up to ISO 1250, at least with the Flowmotion hack.

What really surprised me was this:

ISO 160
Flowmotion 2.02
Noise enhanced for visibility
500% crop

ISO 320
Flowmotion 2.02
Noise enhanced for visibility
500% crop

This tells me that working around the ISO bug as I have talked about above, ISO 320 is actually much cleaner than 160. In fact, it's the cleanest ISO (at least with this hack on my camera).

Thoughts?

Hello everyone, I first heard of the gh2 and anamorphic lenses on this blog and I got curious.

After reading and reading I finally decided to take the leap and ordered one.

Although I'm not new to images from my post-production trade I am new to film making and it's fascinating.

I'll share the videos of my journey in this thread, there is a complete rundown of each vid on vimeo if you are interested.

I should get my anamorphic clamps and diopter next week, can't wait to get them and finally try my anamorphic lens! :)

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts thanks

definitively does sound very promising
what a crazy time we are living in, affordable high quality cameras just seem to keep coming one after the other.
Also with the release of creative cloud we get the full range of needed software for cheap.
I really feel lucky to have so much at my disposal to be creative
looking forward to read more about this camera
