  1. The ISO maxes out on the Mini at 1600...that means its a bit better than the Pocket...but still sucks (if you enjoy low light shooting) Basically the same as a GH4. Hardly the death of Canon or Sony. Blackmagic cams are designed to shoot in the daytime, or the studio. Period. It does not have ND filters, so "the one-man band" speed shooting claim is a joke. Sony FS700 and especially the Canon C300 Mark ll blow this out the door. (for many more reasons than shared here).
  2. Canon 1D C ll ? If not I still think this cam is worth $8K. What else there to compare it to?
  3. The C300 Mark ll is not going to let anyone down. 2015/2016 Camera of the Year. Book it.

    I made a thing

Nice work and nice cam..keep working it man.
  5. May have to wait and see what happens with Canon's 1DX and 1D C dslr's before this happens. Would be nice to bring the powerhouse features of the (now $8,000) 1D C to a $3,500 Mark IV.
  6. Leo, this cam will not lose re-sale value anytime soon. The C300 Mark ll is for FILMMAKERS. People who shoot movies for a living. Period. Anything else, use the original C300. If you're not going to the BIG SCREEN, why shoot on anything this powerful? Overkill. I predict their will be films shot on this that will be nominated for Cinematography/? at the Academy Awards within the next 2 years - This is a bad-ass pice of machinery and pro DP's will respond. 16K is peanuts for what this thing can do. I also predict you will Not see any films shot on the FS7 that will be nominated at the Academy. Just a hunch
  7. Canon have responded to filmmakers. They said: Come and purchase our "C" series line-up of professional camcorders and win your Oscar or your Palme d'Or. If not, do what you can with our DSLR's. That's the reality. That being said, the Canon 1D C is still a great DSLR (the best) for shooting feature films. (if you must go DSLR) If not, step up and lay out the big bucks. Canon could give a fuck about people shooting movies for cheap. They want to make money, and they are.
  8. Simple. Canon XC10 is not for filmmakers or people shooting music videos for a living. This cam is for photojournalists. And/or local news peeps who need to grab some quick interviews/stills. "Live at 5:00 clock it's Bob Weatherford and his Eyewitness 5 News team." It's small and much less intrusive than a Betacam type camcorder for certain "live action" events happening. Hell, a fireman could bolt this thing on his damn helmet and capture brilliant scenes of a house burning down. Ditto for cops chasing some asshole who just robbed a bank. Will also be used for LIVE music events and concerts. Local and Theatre. The 4K imaging is perfect for that..and throw it on the Twitter feed. I spect news agencies will purchase their people this cam..cheap for them. Also will be used by wealthy soccer moms to record their kids...and some family on their National Lampoon's Vacation. The target audience will purchase this and Canon will make a ton on this model. The news agencies have reached out to Canon and they responded.
  9. Here's the guts to new Canon C300 Mark ll in full color glory - http://www.canon.com.au/~/media/Product Brochures/Cinema/Canon-EOS-C300-Mark-II-Specifications Brochure.ashx
  10. I will never understand how any human being can be offended by anything...especially art. In the last 10 -20 years, I've heard so many stories like this about a movie, or a song, or what a celebrity says (like latest Charlie Sheen incident when he called out Obama for being a douschebag). Dont let other people sway your emotions in such a drastic way/ in any way. It's human nature that were all different and like different types of entertainment. If someone like porn, or death metal, or rap music about killing cops, so be it. Until someone does it for real (rape, murder, cop killer, etc...) it's all FAKE. I don't subscribe to the theory that Entertainment: Movies, Video Games, Pornography makes someone in real life go out and kill someone. Kids today that respond violently in real life and blame entertainment for their actions are very weak-minded followers..and frankly already had a few screws loose before they watched "that movie". People that are easily offended should ask themselves why? I believe its a generational concept. 10, 20, 30 years ago when me and my buddies went to see violent movies at the drive-ins, we never heard the words "offensive". Never. This new "politically correct" generation (I like the term "brainwashed generation") is becoming a (what this Obama government wants) sheepish, follow the leader Socialist society. Which in the long term will be far more dangerous to kids than violent video games, movies, and hard core rap music. Use the brain you were born with people. Don't let other people have the power to "offend" you with their art. We're all different. If someone wants to shoot a film about guys raping "whores", or a movie about neo-Nazis torturing and murdering "Niggers" and "Kikes"...or if Ice Cube wants to shoot a movie about his song of "Killing LA Pigs " (cops) let these artists create without getting your panties in an uproar. Grow a pair and accept it. Like filmmaker Spike Lee says: "I'm a black man, not an african-american, and I don't think brothers should be fucking white girls. Let whitey fuck his own and lets keep our black people whole". You think that comment is going to stop me from enjoying a Spike Lee film like "Do The Right Thing"? Hell no. Dude has a right to say or do whatever he damn well pleases...without being called out in this ridiculous PC society as a racist. Wer're all different and we say and shoot and enjoy different things in life. Accept it and don't let some strange filmmaker get a rise out of you. Man, bring back the 1970's.
  11. Save up for a used Canon C100. Can't beat it for Docs.
  12. Classic As for the serious side. good for Canon and all the people this will help in the future.
  13. Micah, I'm hearing and seeing mixed things on the Samsung NX1. Of course all these firmware updates could change everything quickly. I haven't seen a side by side test (maybe AR has done one) comparing the 1080p modes of the NX1 vs A7s. I assumed A7s was much sharper/DR than the Samsung...even in 4k. (although specifically speaking of 1080p for this thread).
  14. Feb 2015 - These are some beautiful colors coming out of the native 1080p Sony A7s - (no 4K) https://vimeo.com/groups/a7s/videos/119097121
  15. It is a shame...the video is soft...no way around the simple fact. Surprising they would release this tech in 2015.
  16. j.f.r. - Nice....50- 100k??..Clean?? What are your settings?...especially the NR??
  17. Congrats on the piece and the pub, AR...you deserve it man. No doubt the A7s has changed the landscape...a groundbreaking piece of equipment.
  18. lol..very true Intentions is correct...however you cannot hide from the world and you cannot escape it. Should you/can you exploit the world around you?..Hmmmm... Remember: 'The Last Man on Earth sat alone in a room...there was a knock at the door".
  19. Very cool...please post any new vids you do with the cam. What's your take on the RS? Completely agree...people can spin it how they want...but FF is special.
  20. Koyaanisqatsi..a brilliant, haunting film. Seems more relevant now than when it came out. A hungry filmmaker now with little money...but talent (and guts) and no fear...could take his tiny Sony A7s and blow peoples minds.
  21. Filmmakers may want to chime in here. A lot of talk on-line about Sony A7s vs the Canon 'C' series of cameras. Especially the C100 and C100 ll. Not sure what most people prefer here, (we can go back and forth about resolution, dr, xlr, nd, etc...) However; if there is one thing that separates these cameras is the stealth factor. There is no doubt the C100 is a small camera....however.. This video below (I'm sure there's even better examples) was just shot in Paris, and if the shooter would have had a C100 or something similar, there's no way he would not have had a reaction - Some bad I believe. (especially the bit with the guy in a intimate moment with his girl) No doubt every single person looked at him, and saw that tiny camera - and felt safe - and had absolutely no clue in hell he was actually shooting video. Something to think about if you need/want this kind of footage, or...you're actually shooting a film and need to steal shots. Phillip Bloom was blasted by several people when he posted his original video with this cam - as it seems almost a tool for private investigators/ police. I do agree with Bloom's comments defending himself. Some people questioned his morality. I do not. If you're a filmmaker you'll probably do anything to get the shot. What you can get away with the Sony A7s seems almost criminal. (in a good way if you're a filmmaker). https://vimeo.com/groups/243026/videos/120768001
  22. "If there's a fault with the product it isn't personal, but it has to be pointed out for what it is". That says it all. Thank you and Amen.
  23. Vaporware?...its reality in a month. I'd like to mention that Sony products...speaking mostly of the FS700 and FS7 seem to need firmware updates ad nauseum. Canon C series works pretty much when you pull it out of the cheap box. Yes, FS7 is clunky and convoluted..AKA - Dog Shit...however, if you're a past Sony user that may not be a problem for you. It does look good in the right hands. So does the FS700. I can't remember what video it was...but ER made a killer vid using the FS100. (street scene). Comparing again to Canon...People sometimes see data sheets and forget about real world usability and.....time....which = $.
  24. I jest with maxotics...because he's delusional. Much too sensitive and political correct...and parental....to a bunch of strangers. I question someone's sanity when I see that. However, he seems like a well meaning kid. Phil Kenny - a grumpy cat, un-talented DP, cruising EOSHD because he has no work and no fan base. Jealousy and poverty is a bad combo. This sad clown is just pathetic. I actually feel sorry for the motherfucker. Another lost, lonely douchebag in the city of angels. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The FS7 can take some pretty pictures..its just not the best ergo/or time saving machine - production or post. SLOG 3 is a HUGE learning curve, and an enormous time succubus....even if you know what you're doing. The brand new Canon C300 ll will put it out of it's short life. I do think Sony is very progressive, and will no doubt come out with something else within a year. Gotta respect that. For low budget indie shooters/music video guys, the A7s ll will probably be a dream come true.
