This last weekend I shot some footage at a local import tuner car show. Because I haven't got my lens splint yet I went with the 14-42mm kit as my taking lens. I have a nice set of Nikkors adapted to my GH2 but walking around in a crowded place with that much weight stressing the camera body didn't seem like a good idea.

All but maybe two shots were at 18mm and roughly F4 which meant I didn't need to attach my Tokina. It's also worth noting I haven't enhanced the footage and this was with currently un-hacked firmware. The very slight softness and chromatic aberration at the edges of frame actually looks quite nice to me. In many ways the results remind me of Panavision films from the '70s and '80s (ie. John Carpenter).

...I love, love, love this lens.

Whether the initial part or the final - most likely the final - shot has the correct exposure, the details that the camera can retain in the wronng exposure is pretty impressive. If you would say that the final exposure was the correct one, the way the beginning looked well illuminated and with decent details for the amount of darkness it really was, I think the camera can hold pretty well and it shows the DR it has.

I've been really struggling with this choice over the last month.

I'm going travelling for a year and want a small but high quality camera to take with me.

I take a lot of video, it's literally a function I use every day. I know I will be filming and editing a lot while I'm traveling.

I'm hoping that those experienced in video will be able to make my choice easier by recommending one over the other.

So, for someone who uses video a lot and does want high quality, the OM-D or a NEX camera?
