  1. Lovely new firmware to try out from lovely Panasonic! http://av.jpn.support.panasonic.com/support/global/cs/dsc/download/fts/index2.html 2017/8/7 Ver.1.1 Fixed the instability of Auto Focus. Improved the performance of O.I.S.(Optical Image Stabilizer). - The lateral stability seems to now match the vertical stability a bit better, ie. better for walking (and everything). The AF thing was when focusing on a stable target the background would pulse a little under some conditions. This fix means I should be able to 1-area touch AF with, um, more stability after achieving target. This has been a very encouraging process as they forwarded my material and concerns to the factory and gave feedback on their response. Very impressed.
  2. How are you viewing these files? While Jon's video is not terribly smooth, it has zero jitter. Can you take a file to another computer? (preferably swapping pc to mac or vice versa and swapping playback resolution and player). Also, try recording at 50p/60p in HD and then conform to half speed. Smooth playback means the original must be smooth too. Also, try play back on a TV with 100Hz+ refresh.
  3. I am 70% photos, 30% video. The AF is extremely good and for video considerably better than what I see around shot with the A6500. Low light, 10bit, 4k 60p, vlog, audio quality, super wide 4k with no crop, ibis, battery life, colours, no banding, DR, cine-D with Leeming lut, EVF! - all super. Very happy with it. Using the PL12-60 all the time.
  4. Stop pooping in this thread you two. Take it to every other thread.

    gx85 to gh5?

If not grading it much then the IQ is pretty much the same. For grading the 10bit files are outstanding and makes playing with vlog very enjoyable. 8bit at 4k50p is also great to have, as are the much easier ergonomics and buttons and operation, screen, evf, inputs, full size hdmi, better battery, better ibis and options. Having both the GX85 and the GH5 would grant you even more options of course. In an ideal world I'd have a second GH5. The quick answer is it really is more gradable and there is quite a lot of examples out there you can download and try out. But also having the second cam around is handy.
  6. BBC Earth director being hanging out with animals too long lolol
  7. Is that the chair making that noise a couple of times? Apart from that it sounds lovely, warm, clear.
  8. Finally heard back from the factory and they believe that the internal mic level is ok and recommend you use the Mic limiter to minimise the clipping. I have used the GH5 now with and without additional mics. I have not had to use the pad on external mics. The on board limiter is both aggressive in suppressing clipping and invisible in operation so I'm happy with that. Again, this is db measured accurate settings on this recorder. It is doing exactly what it is meant to be doing, and doing it well. Set to -12 and use the limiter. This is on-board mics only, with a reasonably loud environment:
  9. jcs I am somewhat familiar with subjects such as religious world views, physics, science and things like that. Your sentence I quoted earlier indicates you are not familiar with the concept behind velocity and it's simple definition, despite being quite capable in it's mathematics. This is how an anti-science magic worldview such as yours can take on the language of science and end up confusing people or even sounding like you know what you're talking about. It's quite fascinating to meet a UFO believer who denies UFO's but, again, nothing new.
  10. They are burning and exploding as they go through the atmosphere which appears almost as a solid of non-uniform density at those speeds. This is nothing new. It's good that you're anti-alien conspiracy, but you seem to have replaced it with an equally pseudo-scientific alternative. The key is to find non-conspiracy sources when seeking answers. That probably requires a wider reading schedule as well to determine what words like velocity mean. On something completely different, this article is hilarious and very clever. https://www.quora.com/Even-when-proof-exists-that-the-moon-landing-was-a-hoax-why-do-school-textbooks-continue-to-glorify-the-Apollo-mission/answer/Patrick-Germain
  11. A linear track to your eyes does not equate with a linear track in 3d space. This happens all the time with meteorites. Objects moving away or towards you appear stationary. An object changing direction thus appears to change speed when it is not. You're sitting on the flip side of the ufo coin.
  12. Ah the Bullers. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buller's_albatross The only one I think of is the Royal which I've visited a few times. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southern_royal_albatross and make everything else look like a seagull. There's a live feed of our ones here but it's night time as I post this.
  13. cant remember. there was a cute story with it though, waiting for mate to arrive
  14. Can't remember that one? Is that in the last episode? Oh I think I remember. That wasn't an albatross though?
  15. Yes, less story for most of them. The sloth one was quite funny though and the lizards vs snakes amazing.
  16. Actually you agree, you just read some things into what I said that I didn't say.
  17. Season 1 was renamed "cute furry creatures being eaten" and became painful in the repeated use in each episode of peaceful music -> dramatic music -> animal eaten. In season 2 you can almost see a modern political correctness with all animals getting the "deserving a feed and living" treatment. This is more realistic but ultimately not as exciting for dramatic tension as everything getting eaten. Stunning images as always.
  18. This is good in bright conditions https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1302704-REG/syrp_0002_0009_variable_nd_filter_kit.html btw, as with any community, this is a diverse bunch and you have to be discerning.
  19. That's a pretty incredible number of robot bloopers. Don't the teams talk to each other?
  20. Just tried it out on mate's GX85. So easy and so profound! Friend is quite blown away, flicking between standard and cine-D. He's pretty happy! Thanks @BTM_Pix
  21. Errrmm, not sure I'd phrase it that way...
