1.
Am I missing something, or this test completely confounded by varying effectiveness of the individual teams' post production performance?
All the post production color grading was done by the same person, in the particular camera's native format, and on the same color grading system (sorry, I can't remember what the name of the system is).  They did a good job of trying to reduce as many variables as possible.  All the cameras even used the same lens except for the iPhone and the two canons who both used canon lenses.  I wonder if that's why the 7D and C300 looked so bad!
 2. I saw the revenge shootout recently and the biggest take away for both my friend and I was how poorly the 7D looked.  At first I thought it was actually out of focus it was so soft.  The weird thing is that my friend is shooting a feature on the 7D and his footage doesn't look nearly as soft and we've screened his dailies on the same big screen where we showed the Shootout...  The FS100 was the most surprising in a good way, for me.  I've never liked the look of this camera's footage when viewing it on a monitor or big screen TV but graded well and projected from a DCP on a big screen, it looked great!  The GH2 did look surprisingly good but I thought it ranked a little lower than the FS100 but higher than the C300, which also looked pretty bad....
 3. Just wondering...  How long do you think it will take for Magic Lantern to come out with a hacked firmware?  I am in the market to buy a camera and was almost ready to but the FS100 but may wait to see what comes out of the hack.... Thanks!
 4. Hey Andrew, I just bought your anamorphic e-book guide.  What a treat!  I had no idea the possibilities these lenses could provide.  I actually own the Panasonic LA7200 from my DVX100 days.  Is the only diopter that works still the Foton +1?  Looks like that will be a challenge to find.  Also, did you ever find a way to mount in securely?  I think I'll still keep an eye out for a Iscorama 36, though.  Thanks! Erick
 5. Wow - this looks amazing!  I must have this lens!  Any ideas where one might be hiding that I could purchase?
 6.
Zig, I believe no matter what new stuff is coming (and it IS for sure), the Sony FS100's price will be a lot lower than the new NAB stuff. Don't hold fire if you really need to shoot now.
Trust me, I would love to pull the trigger now.  I'm heading overseas for a couple weeks so I was thinking about getting it for my trip but I'm going to wait.  And since Metabones doesn't have the Canon adapters in stock, there is no point right now since I won't have any glass to use with it...  Plus, if I can get a 4K camera for only a few grand more I'd rather make that investment.  Maybe the FS100 will drop in price after NAB, although I am guessing it would only drop a few hundred which would match the current rebate.
 7. I'd be really surprised if Canon came out with a video-only camera in the 5-6K range.  I think it would make all those people who purchased the MKIII for video really really upset.  I can see them releasing a camera for 7K.  At double the price of the MKIII, most people who got the MKIII wouldn't have considered a camera that expensive.  At that price point, it would give them three different markets.  I would bet that Canon will be announcing a 4K camera.  I wonder how much, though...  20K?  I assume it would have to be more than the C300 but if it's just a DSLR that can do 4K, price might be much lower, like in the 7k range...  I was going to pull the trigger on an FS100 (I have a MKII) but I think I will wait for the 15th now.... 8)
 8.
Hey Andrew, I was just wondering where you were getting the $4000 price for a used fs100 from? I've been watching eBay for weeks and the lowest I've seen for the body has been about $4500-4700 usd. I'd love to know where else I should be looking.
You can get the FS100 NEW for $4700 with the $300 rebate they are currently offering through the end of the month.  That's body only.  VERY tempting....
 9.

I think it's important to not just compare specs and features but to also compare the looks that these cameras create.  Personally, I love the look of the footage shot with the MII.  I am still thinking of adding a MIII for the low light features but I'm not in a particular hurry to pull the trigger.  The FS100 sounds like an amazing camera but the footage looks very stale and flat to me.  Very "video-y".  Yeah, I know, that's very technical of me to say...  I really want to see the MIII and the FS100 footage side by side.  I'm also worried that cutting the 5D MII footage in with the FS100 footage won't look great.
I think you got those two confused - imo MK2/3 are far more videoy vs an FS100 or F3 But if you really want to ditch the video look rent/buy the Ikonoskop A-cam - global shutter, raw, very soft organic look to the files with milky shadows.  Dynamic range is limited and the small sensor would probably make super shallow depth of field tricky, but it does produce a very pleasing image. https://vimeo.com/28717821
Yeah, the more I see comparison footage between the 5D and other cameras the more I like the 5D.  I guess that's lucky for me since I already have one :)  This one really sealed it for me: Canon 5D Mark II vs Sony NEX-FS100 vs Canon T3i Thanks for the Ikonoskop link!!!  The footage is great.  I can find that camera used plus a couple lenses for about 12K.  Not too bad.  Cheaper than the C300!  I think I am going to wait for April 15 to see what Canon is announcing before I buy anything more.  Thanks again for everyone's help!
 10.
Agree with you that the aesthetics are more important than specs but I don't think the FS100 footage looks like video, it depends how it is shot and graded. Sharper footage doesn't always look less cinematic. Take a look at this for a good example of what the FS100 (and F3) is capable of... Reeling Back / Autumn 2011
Thanks, Andrew!  I really appreciate the link.  I would love to see a real narrative scene shot with this camera.  All I've been able to find has looked like soap operas and porn...  To be honest, this reel is so full of over processed shots, slow motion, lens flares, and other stuff it's really hard to tell what any normal footage would look like.  When I say normal, I mean footage you would actually use in a narrative.  Please post any more links or PM them to me.  I really want to love this camera since it has so many great features and is pretty inexpensive!  8)
