1. Hi, I can't seem to find an answer in any forums, so I'll ask myself.. I have a Vanilla-patched GH2 and I am therefore shooting with 44mbit. Now I finished shooting and editing a film. I want to export it. First Question- I used h.264 blu ray instead of h.264 to insure the highest quality.. was I wrong to do so??? Second Question- I don't want to lose any quality and don't care about the size.. So should I just bump the mbit size up to the limit, which interestingly enough is only 40 or 50 and wouldn't even support a higher bitrate, as for example the unified-patch. Or is the "real" bitrate saved somewhere else anyway?
2.   I need to ask this:   How much of a step-up effect does the Cokin p-Holder have? Ergo, am I running in danger of vignetting? As you probably have read, I would have needed a 77mm filter and a step up from the 58mm SLR-Magic, as to prevent from Vignetting. Is this getting the job done? Cheers in advance
3.   Thank you. I'll get the Cokin P's then. Do you think I need a matte box or could I just do with my step up ring and the filters?   Have you got (Has anyone) a recommendation for any particular and cheap follow focus system as well?
4.  Well, they even send a recommended step-up ring with the lens for 50Euros extra because of the shape of it or smth. I know that it's not usual but every source tells that you need one.   My only question now is the necessary quality. What are the cheapest (still good for the lens) step up ring and nd-filter and what should I not buy.. (probably the no-name 20euro ones on ebay....) - I was looking (hoping) to spend 60-90euros in total for the two.
5. What about Hama or Marumi filters? ---Marumi DHG Light Control ND Filter 77mm.---- I don't really get, whether this is a fader. they don't give away much information. What does light control mean?
6. Thank you for your replies!   As I really wanna use my camera, without a lot of hesitation and still be able to be spontanious about it, I think, I will have to decide against a Matte Box and go for a step up and a fader.   Except ofcourse, if that meant a significant loss of quality and it would make the daylight-shots of the SLR Magic 12mm look worse than those of the pana 14-42.   I mean, what if I bought something like that http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/60508-REG/Tiffen_5877SUR_58_77mm_Step_up_Ring_Lens.html and combined it with a no-name 20 Euro filter à la http://www.ebay.at/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570&_nkw=77mm+nd+filter&_sacat=See-All-Categories ?   So basically the question is: Is there a cheaper option than the 100Euro + fader glasses that wouldn't be all to stupid on a 500 Euro lens?!   And does a cheap step-up imply vignetting? SLR Magic are selling their Step-Ups for 50 Euro. In what way are those better?   Thanks a lot for reading.   If you know or have an answer for my budgetary problems please respond!
7. Hi,   I just ordered the lens and now i'm looking for a cheap but good nd-filter (<-- question 1) and as I found out today it's going to be for 77mm and not 58mm, so that the vignetting wont be too bad.   Now, the step-up rings I found on Ebay were all very cheap and I was wondering whether there are differences and if I should avoid buying a cheap one, as I heard that some of you guys bought those for more than 40quids.   Can you please help a technical newbie?   Also, I would really like to get some recommendings in terms of the nd-filter itself. What should I go for? Could you post links, if you know where to buy?!   Cheers, that would really help.
8.
Hi, a cheap alternative is to use a wide angle converter. I bought 1 (on ebay) an Olympus Wcon-08b which screwed onto my 14-140mm. It is a big piece of glass, heavy, but gives good results. It made my lens an 11.2mm lens. Cheers, Rob
Do you use a step up ring? Would that be a good wide angle converter for the pana 20mm f1.7?
9. I'm sorry, I gotta bump that - Computar 12,5mm f1,3 (can't find it/nothing on ebay), Noktor SLR Magic 12mm f1,6 and Pana 14mm f2,5 my only options? No one out there wants to tell me about the real deal, that doesn't vignette too much (if c-mount), has a beautiful wide image and is the sh*t for less than 200bucks?!!

F1.4 ! cheap and very good for the money I got this last week and its great to use! C MOUNT ....SO USE IN EX TELE MODE
6mm in EXtele mode. How wide is that? Could you maybe post some footage? And Andrew also said that you had to be careful, especially with the c-mount screw-zooms since you can easily destroy the sensor, ergo the cam... Is that not the case?
11. Hi, thanks for your responses so far. Well I decided to buy a computar 12,5mm f1.3 and since it turned out to be a auto.iris apc lens, with a cable on it, I guess that I can't use that one. Now, I'm back to zero, because I don't have what I want the most, a fast, wide angled lens for my GH2. If it's cheap, it'll be c-mount and in that case, I want it to be 3/2, so it doesn't vignette too much, and of course, I want the picture to be sharp (of which the vimeo-cosmicar 12.5mm f 1,3-footage didn't really convince me yet). Still, DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW AND WHERE I CAN PURCHASE THE COMPUTAR 12,5mm f 1,3 without the cable on it or is there a new and alternative solution for less than 150Euros on the market?! Thanks in advance!
12. Hi, I'm trying to buy a cheap, wide, fast lense for my gh2. Since I am not yet willing to spend 300 or 500euros for the 14mm 2.8 or the Noktor SLR Magic, I was thinking about one of those Andrew-recommended c-mount alternatives ( http://www.eoshd.com/content/579/group-test-fast-wides-for-filmmaking-on-the-gh2-including-computar-12-5mm-f1-3 ), but I can't seem to find them on ebay or anywhere else... Could you help me out or where did you guys buy yours, if you have one of the two? Cheers, Jules
13. Hi there, wider is always less tele. I think Andrew would recommend for you to buy the 14-42mm lens. This would mean you could shoot relatively wide pictures/video (ergo 14mm) and relatively tele videos/pics (42mm). The lens isn't very fast or very good but cheap. If you want extreme tele shots, you should go and buy a good and fast (F-number low ergo aperture light intense...good for low light/evening or little depth of focus ergo beautiful/cinematic) tele objektive and still not the relatively expensive 14-140mm F4-5.8. Though you really should buy the lens kit and not only the body itself, since you can always sell the lens for much more than the 40euro/30pound difference. If you like wide shots you could also buy the Panasonic 14mm F2.5 for about 200euro which is as you will notice only as wide as the standard lens but quite fast and light intense. If you wanna go for super fast lenses you will need to pay more or take it easy on the width. Panasonics 20mm F1.7 is about 330euro and you can have the SLR Magic Hyper Prime 12 mm F1,6 for less than 500euro, which is most certainly going to be my next purchase. There's also an olympus 12mm F2 for 650euro
14. I wrote a mail to Andrew. I got an answer-- and then I wrote him that but he asked me to post it in the forum so that's what I do.... at the end there's what he said first: Hi, there have been a few mistakes in my mail since i forgot that the crop factor is higher, so anything above 15mm is hardly to be called wide. Still the other two questions remain. Memory capability with the hack and slo-mo looks.. Samyang or canon or panasonic/olymus? I didn't see any light intense FD canon manual focus lenses under 50mm yet.. Sorry again. Ps. How do i purchase the book? Cheers, julian > > >    hi, cheers for the quick answer. So let's say, I'm going for the gh2, I'll then most certainly buy your book and look into the lense section but I really want to have a good package from the start. So there's one/two more question(s), i would really aprecciate to have answered before i actually buy the stuff. I will of course use the hack and now i am wondering how my old mac book pro will handle that. Even more importantly - what kind of memory cards will i need to take more than five minutes of footage and how much are those? - Secondly, i don't really need a super wide lense. Light intensity is probably more important. 24mm 1.4 (1.8will work) f.e. Might be too expensive? Do panasonic produce good lenses or should i use other lenses in any case, like the samyang (best quality for a low price, i hear) 24mm, 1.4. What kind of an adapter is there for a samyang? And how do the slo-mo shots look - compared to the nex 5n 50p on full hd? I'm sorry to bother you so much but i will buy the book as a reward.  ..so samyang or canon it is? Two adapters? Are there different ones and is that expensive? Thank you so much! Yours, julian Andrew said: Hello I think the GH2 is the best choice for image quality. But the dramatic wide angle of 12mm can be quite expensive to achieve. The SLR Magic Noktor is the cheapest 12mm but hard to get hold of. The NEX 5N has a 16mm F2.8 pancake lens that is pretty wide. If you have a 16mm Nikon lens then get the NEX 5N. If you can find a good wide lens which is wider than 14mm get the GH2. That is, if wide angle is not such a priority… Then get the GH2 since the image is sharper. I recommend the Canon FD manual focus lenses on eBay. Very good value for money. You can get 4 or 5 for under 500 euros and the cheapest is just 50 euros. I recommend buying my book if you haven't already. The lens section is huge!
15. Hey guys, so I'm going for the gh2 and of course I will buy Andrews book as soon, as I have the camera. Questions: How many memory cards will I need? Will my macbookpro be able to deal with the hacked 100mbit + videos? Is the samyang 24mm 1.4 ED AS UMC the right choice and is there anything better than the relatively cheap rhode sound recording mics? what is good and cheap, that is also an absolute must?!! And most importantly - A friend told me, that if I am to hack the GH2 (which I certainly want to) it is very important to buy it with the right firmware - So: What is the right firmware? Please people. Take a minute! Cheers a lot---
