1. VG-900 Sony has been for so many years so disconnected from the market but now after FS100/700 and then if: 1 - Canon EF Lens to Sony NEX Metabones Smart Adapter works 2 - HDMI is not compressed 3 - Resolved detail in full hd is nice This could be a killer... I so much enjoy the RX100 that has deeply changed my brand perception... so I could buy also this new camera...
2. Tried several times in the last 3 years with 5D Mk2 + twixtor and basically works only if you have very slow camera and subject movements. I really suggest to give a try. Advantage is the potential to zoom later on details beside the dynamic range. Curios to see this on a 14fps camera. Ciao
3. Again... We should no draw conclusions without seeing what they can actually achieve. I hope that the hack will do something similar to GH2. Same as Black Magic Cinema Camera we need real world tests to on a production model to see what is capable. To early to nominate it as "The future".
4. No real world tests and reviews so no sense to judge on the specs alone. Let's see more footage of 4k Fs700, uncompressed BMC and c500 to see where they stand.
5. People like to hang to those packaged theories about Japan as a static traditional society, it reassure them.
Well. I would say that by having direct knowledge of Sony's corporate culture they are not far away to the reality. But... this to me applies to Sony and the error here is judging an entire society as a whole. Look at Toyota and you find huge investments on Hybrid cars that are going to get disruptive soon. On the other side of the ocean the US car industry has been quiet an example of "Stuck on incremental, not disruptive innovation" and in the same time totally loosing the product quality and US is supposed to be a much more dynamic society... We could talk about Motorola, HP, Kodak, IBM etc...  In Europe there so many examples including Nokia etc... So... to me Canon is really treating the lower part of the digital film market in very conservative way as did Sony and I bet that they will be obliged to react to avoid loosing a lot of customers like me and many on this forum
6. Something from CNET written quiet exactly on the culture behind Canon 5D Mk3 Sony's slow but sure descent is also about Japan's obsession with doing things the Japanese way, even if it's the wrong way, says CNET's Brooke Crothers. 7. This Just tells us how wrongly conservative are these guys... Big space for "out of the box" camera designers (Black Magic?)
8. Now we have FS100, FS700 and BlackMagic (Sorry 5d MK3 out): FS100 Proven real 1080p alternative to the disappointing  5d Mk3 FS700 is it really 4k? Or... with the required 4K recorder/firmware will it be much more expensive than expected (See RED Scarlet... ) ? BlackMagic Disruptive for the industry. BUT we have to see what it can really deliver and this is what really matters... So for me I wait and see... let's check real world reviews and the Sony 4k option cleared before conclusions... ciao!
9.
Wrong - £2400. I just ordered at CVP. Links are on the Black Magic Design site.
Cvp?
10. What a joy... This is the iMac 27" of Cinema Cameras. Eerything integrated in such a polish form. If this succeeds S35 will come soon after. Great!  :)
11. So... Under $ 10.000 looks like Sony is the new champion with FS-100 & FS-700 producing cameras with features that people really want & need at the right prices. Just little more than one year ago Sony was totally out from this market. Competition is good & Lens adapters are great so we can still decide & switch.
12.
.  And these are often people who were brought into video by the 5D mark II.  ie. Canon customers.  In the stills world many product, food, architectural and landscape photographers (who don't care about shooting at ISO 102,000) are switching to the D800.
Totally correct switching to Sony fom MkII
13.
High resolutions are the dinosaur skeletons of the past. This never bothered the audience (with a handful exceptions). We will see higher framerates for 3D (Hobbit), but no 4k standard. A lot of films will be mastered in 4k now, but just because the 2k-theatre-systems eat it, the DCPs are downwards compatible, not because of demand.
Totally agree Axel, actually my target is getting a really resolved deliverable 1080p from footage you can color grade, slowo for some special scenes, usable audio inputs. C300 makes no sense to me at the price, this Sony beside the 4k hype looks interesting. The extra resolution at the moment would be nice for cropping, alpha channel. Let's see real footage and reviews...
14.
Anything that is announced at a price over 5k is irrelevant in terms of what future indie filmmakers will be using.
Well... I do not understand your point... this is already a big cut, expect the price going down for used ones or competitors models to 5K in 2-3 years. No camera will make you a Kubrick but will give you more freedom and make life easier. I constantly hit the frustrating limits of poor DSRLs video performance, compression artifacts in grading, real resolution, audio inputs & sync, maximum recording time, no slowmo, no decent monitor etc...  having something like this opens up a great creative possibility. Ciao
15. dangerzonerj... I really look forward to do a similar move. I need to display my edits on a big 1080p stage screen and I am totally tired about soft video, moire and difficulty in color correcting the footage without ugly artifacts. Sony has dropped a huge bomb over Canon, RED & Nikon. DSLRs are back where they should be, mainly 4 photography with optional video. Now we are really moving to digital cinema cameras you can buy... great... an indie cinema dream... What can I say... I totally agree... S35 with fast glass is well enough 4 what you really need. I used a 5d MK2 because there were no interesting alternatives. Now Sony has these 2 fantastic cameras and to me there is no sense to buy a Mk3 or D800 for video. I will wait for real FS700 reviews and then make the final decision including the FS100. and... let's see NAB... Ciao
16. This is basically a Red Scarlet than you can really use, depend on and afford. Great Sony you are back!. Planning to buy it ASAP. AlsoDSLRs will have hard time with these kind of real cameras FS-100 and FS-700. Let's see the 4K EOS. Now they must release it with RAW output...
17.
.  I'm in the market for a worthy camera.  This may be it.
This is just great. Sony will push me to postpone my car change. :) Even only downscaling 4k to real 1080p would be a dream and then you have a camera that will make sense for at least 3/4 years not like the C300 that will be already outdated next week. My question is: can you playback 4K 422 or 444 Prores on a Mac in realtime? What kind of system you will need? I am working on projects that will be actually projected on a cinema sized screen. So I really look forward to have at least a real 1080p from 4k. Thanks!
18. Very well video rmoved Canon & Nikon are doing the impossible to avoid any publication of video footage... Incredible..
