  1. Thinking of pairing the GH4 with something like the Aja Ki Pro Mini recorder ($900 used) or a Sound Devices Pix 220i thank to the 10Bit HDMI recording and XLR inputs of this devices.

The Lumix DMC-YAGH Interface, make no much sense to me without internal recording, as you notice Andrew, if you get the interface then need another external recorder, so? the rig will be even bigger.

  2. Do you need a whether resistant body but not the lenses? i have recorded video under intensive rain at the Amazon with the GH3 and the OM-D using the Lumix 12-35mm and the 35-100mm, without problems. Before that, my kit was with the Olympus 14-54mm and 50-200mm using the MMF-3 adapter so i can keep my equipment weather resistant also cheaper; i'm not a AF user so, the Olympus lenses works for me, but now with the Lumix a get a smaller package.

  3. Recently i owned a D5200, the only positive thing i can say about it is that the video quality is good, but i prefer the Lumix GH3, video quality is great, a much better roughed body and weather sealed no bigger that the D5200, excellent lens selection, audio also is very good and can be monitored too, no time limit recording on the NTSC model, more video codecs to choice from, i don't have problem with the EVF but some does.

  5. I own both cameras, and the video quality of the GH3 is miles ahead the OM-D also have better options for video recording as differents video formats, mic input and earphone jack, live and clean hdmi output a much better battery life on video recording;  but the OM-D is my choice for photo thank to the wonderful 5-axis stabilization, because i use mainly vintage glasses.

  6. Why? AF series ergonomics are outdated. Small cameras is where it's at.

Yes this is true, but the Lumix line is too consumer centered, when i think on a AF replacement i'm talking about a new body, smaller and slimmer, something like the KineRaw mini or Digital Bolex, i'm a FS100 design body lover, i know almost 99.95% of people hate it, but to me have a perfect size for what it is, even Blackmagic was after a unconventional design, ok it don't work very well at first but a least they're changing things.

Well, thinking it twice maybe this can be feasible, Canon have 1DC, right? Sony will launch a 4K alpha camera (last year NAB they have a prototype), so? make sense that Panasonic will launch a 4K camera in a DSLR body, but i don't know if the Lumix line will be good for this, just that.

  7. The "cheapest: camera for "perfect" green screen work?

    Simple, The Blackmagic Cinema Pocket.

Obviously you can do chromakey work with 4:2:0 cameras, this has been done for many years. but if you really are looking for the cleanest key do you need at least 4:2:2 and more if you need to key hair and translucency.

My basic needs for a good key are:

    1. Lighting and subject isolation without spills.

    2. Sharpness

  8. Watching the Charles Michel video at Vimeo it looks like the heavy aliasing on the a99 is no more on the a7, is a very multimedia oriented camera i must to say and i like, mic input, earphone jack, uncompressed HDMI output, peaking and zebra, manual audio adjustment and FullFrame?

For documentary work looks great, i gonna take this one.

  9. All depends of the money they want to invest and the kind of project, in audio equipment cheap never is good, i use Tascam and Rode so this what i recommend based on my experiences, of course there's more advanced equipment and from other maker.

    Basic:

-Zoom H4n or Tascam DR-100 MKII

    -Shotgun mic Rode NTG-2

    -Boom Pole or mic fishpole.

    -Shotgun Win protection.

    More advance equipment:

    -Tascam DR-680

    -Shotgun mic Rode NTG-3

When i need a lavalier i have the Sony UWP-V6.

    Cheers.

  10. I'll take the D5200 over the G6.

Pluses of the D5200 over G6:

    -24mpx.

-Clean HDMI output also a very efficent internal codec.

    -A better high ISO performace.

    -Better IQ

    -A little better body construction.

Pluses of the G6 over D5200:

    -Live histogram.

    -Focus Peaking.

    -Lens adaptability.

    My two cents.
