Apple kill third party SSD support in Yosemite
Andrew - EOSHD replied to Andrew - EOSHD's topic in Cameras
It's working for you because Trim is disabled, or your particular brand of SSD doesn't use trim and instead the firmware uses a different type of driver. If Trim is simply disabled it is likely your SSD performance will tail off over time, as Trim keeps things organised and tells the OS where the remaining free space is. There's a good explanation from huge Apple fans Samsung here: http://www.samsung.com/global/business/semiconductor/minisite/SSD/us/html/about/whitepaper04.html If the Trim kext is loaded, in my case it could be that booting my MacBook Retina 15" with my iMac drive played with some settings... But that doesn't explain why so many others are having the same problem and that Larry & OWC are sounding off about it. How do I disable Trim anyway, or check if the kext files are loaded / enabled? -

Quite surprising how little C100 2 footage there is out there. You'd have thought filmmakers would be all over it. Perhaps they're all too busy shooting with better stuff, from Sony and Panasonic and Arri and Red. -
Apple kill third party SSD support in Yosemite

Remember to read this too guys... http://www.larryjordan.biz/caution-ssd-drives-and-yosemite/ And this by OWC's CEO - http://blog.macsales.com/21641-with-an-owc-ssd-theres-no-need-for-Trim Not all SSDs use Trim which is where the unsigned driver problem occurs. It could also depend on the Thunderbolt controller / caddy chipset, etc. I am not sure. But I am sure it doesn't work on my system. iMac 27" late 2013. Samsung Evo 840 500GB SSD in Buffalo Thunderbolt caddy. -

It doesn't affect a Hackintosh. I assume the driver signing is off anyway on those systems, since the very definition of a Hackintosh is that they are a hack. This problem comes when doing an official upgrade to Yosemite using the App Store on an official Mac system with third party SSD drive or external SSD caddy. -

It worked over USB 3 as Mavericks booted instead of the stillborn Yosemite installation. The problem comes when upgrading to Yosemite. Read the article. -
DO NOT upgrade to Yosemite if you are booting from a third party SSD drive. Here's what Apple is up to and what to do about it... Read the full article here

Cannot see how the ergonomics of this camera rival the FS7 or C100 Mk II. -

It's a crop. "The lens native angle of view". Not very clearly worded I have to admit. -
JVC had a prototype of this camera (missed by almost everybody) at IBC. Now the LS300 is available for pre-order at B&H for just $4450 with an expected shipping date of February 1st 2015. It features a Super 35mm sensor, snuggly fitting in a Micro Four Thirds mount able to take advantage of lens adapters for almost anything, with an internal 150Mb/s 4K codec at 30/24p. It also has a built in ND filter and 3G-SDI output as well, so great for external recorders like the Atomos Shogun... at least at first glance. Read the full article here

Quality video is never coming back to the DSLR line. That is precisely what the Cinema EOS line is for. And you must pay the asking price for it, or get a Sony.

Canon claimed they "pioneered 4K with the C500 in 2012". http://www.canon-europe.com/About_Us/Press_Centre/Press_Releases/Consumer_News/News/Disneyland_uses_Canon_Cinema_EOS.aspx Yep. Pioneered as in the first to do 4K. I don't want to buy cameras from a company who lies in a press release. Not to mention one that doesn't have anything appealing or 4K to sell me under $12k. If we stop airbrushing history for a moment, it was actually Dalsa who pioneered cinema 4K and RED who pioneered 4K for cheaper prices.

In 2009 Canon had the best full frame and APS-C sensor technology. Now they are behind almost everyone. Fuji have a tiny R&D budget compared to Canon BTW. Fuji with their X-trans APS-C sensor Panasonic with their 4K readout for cheap Sony across the board (both APS-C and full frame) Nikon with their custom Sony manufactured 36MP sensor Canon's 1D X/C sensor is their best and most innovative, the C300 sensor not far behind... but look at the prices!! Not competitive on price at all.

Shame DXOMark don't measure video, the gap would be even larger between Nikon and Canon there, not to mention Sony. The D5300 vs 7D Mark II for video - it's a no brainer. The D5300 has a better image, an articulated screen and is less than half the price. As for AF, it's still not fully usable for video. You can't rely on it. Not a single pro DP uses it.

What happens when you press info? And why are you using a 7D Mk II for video. It's shit.

Nice tip, thanks alexO.
