DPReview forum still censoring EOSHD URL
Andrew - EOSHD replied to Andrew - EOSHD's topic in Cameras
In London today, peaceful protests turned nasty. Some thugs attacked news reporters, members of the public. Good cops (you know, the non-racist type) trying to control the situation got vitriolic abuse. If we all are to have a voice and take action for what's right, the hardcore thugs that undermine their own side should first be silenced. I know this sounds like a paradox but it's true. Secondly, those who voted for Trump, Boris or whoever their demigod is (Bolsonaro another) purely for their own good reasons at the time (and the failure of Hilary Clinton to meet their concerns, or Corbyn in the UK) need to come to the right moral conclusion over time and see what he has done to their country. See the hard evidence. A moment of self-realisation needs to happen. Nobody is forcing them, and it doesn't mean to say they suddenly have to turn into the radical left. Carry on being conservative and standing up for your beliefs, but realise what sort of a man Trump is and what kind of weak leadership he represents. And the radical left, far left, who vilify the entire police force, encouraging the looting of innocent people's businesses, justifying it in the name of George Floyd (nope - it isn't justified) all need to calm the fuck down as well. They are using the anger to heighten the emotion even more and create dangerous tensions on our streets, all for their own selfish political ends. People just need to be reasonable. Too much to ask? Probably. -

It's always this way. Someone like the Hemp man diverts the topic. I ask for help and he does this. It's trolling pure and simple, just bait to get you to respond. I don't expect much. Just for those who post at DPReview to be able to reference their information with the source of it, which could be here - they have that right to post EOSHD URLs, it's free speech. I don't ban their URL here despite DPReview treating me like shit. In fact how about this - fuck DPReview. Don't post there. If you don't feel this is right and the locking of protest photo threads, don't read DPReview. -
AF is a real shot getter. Every time I go without it for run & gun I regret it as a shot sails past the frame out of focus. The S1 would be your first choice if it had decent autofocus. The Nikon Z6 and Fuji X-T4 are much better choices in that regard and the X-T4 has some very good native zooms for documentary... the 18-55mm 2.8-4 and 18-135mm both superb with very good (and silent) AF. The native zoom lenses for the Z6 are much more expensive. It does however have very good AF with the Fringer EF adapter, so you can use something like the Canon 24-105mm F4 on it, no problem, or a Sigma zoom. No 10bit on the Z6. Lowlight is good on both the Z6 and X-T4. I'm leaning towards X-T4 personally. More features than the Z6 and you can make up the sensor size difference with 1 stop faster glass.

Let's get this straight. So your contribution to camera nerd land is to bring the place into disrepute on so many occasions you get banned multiple times, but keep creeping back like a virus, even today opening an account only out of vindictiveness to your host, then you expect me to allow all this of course, otherwise it's censorship and hypocricy. When you get arrested for a theft, do you shout censorship too? I am not censoring you, I am protecting my property and other users. Looks like another Trump apologist has come out the woodwork! Who'll miss you?

Well that's a cynical way to look at it. How did you think Steve McCurry started photojournalism? Are you really suggesting there is something wrong with anyone photographing what's going on in their own towns and cities... their own country. If they want to use an ND let them. Let them use anything they like, I don't see the problem with it. You don't know the most important thing - their intention. If some of them are 'tourists' out for social media likes, then so be it... people are people... but you can't tarnish everyone with the same brush.

So many examples of that. This scene is from a river rave in Berlin, found on Reddit here https://old.reddit.com/r/berlin/comments/gui77y/peak_slacktivism_i_cant_breath_banner_on_a_party/ I suppose it makes them feel better doing jack shit. There's even now a name for it... Slacktivism! Words must match actions. You are out there packing food and household supplies. A wonderful deed and a reminder that sometimes humans actually do something good without expecting a pat on the head or a lot of social media likes for it. Those who aren't there need the pictures to know what's going on in a different country, the rest of us need those photos and videos. So keep these coming too.

It's hard to understand why people are so divided. Half of them voted for having a racist, nationalist, facist dictator as President, that's all. What's divisive about that? I can't see anything wrong with that! Must be all my fault. Is it me doing the provocation perhaps? They have done their country proud! 😂 -

Looks like some people need to learn what’s censorship and what’s standing up against immorality, racism, nationalism and worse. -
Yup. Medium format and Leica forums do tend to be more civil, I find.

I see where the FPS shows up now. It is around 7fps with Metal. Real-time 24fps / 25fps with OpenCL. So the problem is Metal. Not the only problem mind you - there is the H.265 / Fuji shadow clipping issues that make all the files look like trash! Definitely all needs to be looked into by Blackmagic.

I am censored in effect by many of my colleagues but I don't censor you lot. If you want to post a link to Cinema5D or DPReview that's your right. -
Photo by Fibonacci Blue Will Smith said recently that racism isn't increasing - the difference is that it's being photographed and filmed - now we realise just how much of it there is. If it wasn't for the filming of George Floyd's murder by a policeman, it may never have come to light in public. All of us who have a camera, smartphone or online presence should keep this flame alive and shine a light on the truth wherever it confronts us. Important photos and videos must never be censored. However when a long-time DPReview forum contributor tried to share his photos of the George Floyd protests in Minneapolis, he was immediately censored. I have also been subject to censorship on the DPReview forum (my URL is banned completely) so I know what it's like to have your voice silenced from a community. For those that do go there, I want them to be able to have freedom of speech. Not much to ask. -
Hello everyone, I need your help. I'd like everyone to write to Scott Everett at DPReview about the forum ban on EOSHD URLs and politely ask for them to stop doing this. I think it's been 5 years now. There are users who post in both places and want to reference a topic here, or reference in this forum a topic at DPReview. So it is not nice really, is it? Last year I had a big clear the air talk with Scott, their general manager. Unfortunately since, he has done nothing to stop the ban. So here is the address to email for him... https://***URL removed***/about/staff/scott.everett scottev@dpreview.com Please be polite and ask him to stop censoring you.

Sigma Fp review and interview / Cinema DNG RAW
Andrew - EOSHD replied to Andrew - EOSHD's topic in Cameras
Can confirm this is a bug on mine too. Did you ever find a fix? It happens to me no matter what video mode or settings are used. Reminds me of the similar issue on the Nikon Z6 which has a similar sensor! -
The ALL-I codec on this camera is REALLY good. Maintains a LOT more in the shadows than the Long GOP IPB mode. It is 400Mbit so quite big files but a lot smaller than RAW at 1800Mbit. This is one of those occasions where 400Mbit is worth it... (Shadows pushed up approx. 3 stops in Resolve) 4K ALL-I 4K Long GOP IPB

Panasonic Lumix S1, Battery Issue?, Shut Off at 20%
Andrew - EOSHD replied to PannySVHS's topic in Cameras
The S1 battery is absolutely enormous. Here's me wondering how the Sigma Fp has no problems with it's GH2 battery from 2011! It even powers an SSD while doing 12bit 4K RAW -
Yes the autofocus is pretty, erm, shall we say... Hybrid. Somewhere between contrast detect AF and phase. It hunts. Not sure why. It's extremely unreliable in video mode. 32-64mm zoom has internal stepping motor, silent, fast, but the camera does not make the most of it. The X-T4 is far better for AF. Some lenses like the 63mm f2.8 are incredibly bad on the GFX cameras and it's not much better on the GFX 100 with phase-detect AF on sensor. I am hoping for a firmware update that dramatically improves it as I can see no good reason why it has to be so bad! Reminds me of the X-Pro 1!! Apart from that, it's my favourite all-round camera right now. Love it. You can put a £20 lens on it and it still looks like medium format. So cinematic.

I get better performance with OpenCL than Metal, so it's the other way round. Running Mojave. Hackintosh is working flawlessly. Resolve 16.2 Can't figure it out at all yet.

This is also interesting. Thanks. -
Panasonic Lumix S1, Battery Issue?, Shut Off at 20%
Andrew - EOSHD replied to PannySVHS's topic in Cameras
OK, I think the best solution is to buy a new battery (at least temporarily and return it to Amazon if it doesn't fix the issue). This will illuminate the possibility that it's just a faulty battery. If it is proven that the problem happens with the new battery too, then we have a situation and I'll notify Panasonic. It may be that the cameras are very marginal in their peak current requirements, so any degradation with the battery as it ages causes an issue. This isn't good either and Panasonic should investigate like Leica are doing with the SL2.
