I compared JPG images. Once it comes in I will compare it with the A7Rii at different ISO, using the same lenses and settings. I love my A7Rii for stills, but really expected better performance when pushed. Not that it's bad... 10k ISO is pretty high. I'm now debating weather it will make sense to keep the A7Rii once the Canon arrives. These test will help answer that question. What has your experience been with skin tones on the 1DX Mkii? I've heard reports that Canon have changed their color science, and skin tones are now more yellow. Do you have stills you can post?

Skin tones and the photos in general are a lot warmer compared to the original 1DX. Here are two RAW files that you can check out: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ymir3nwaa0ppep8/AAAhPOn4_2MpiISegdSq-Re2a?dl=0

I don't think using the tablet as a monitor would prevent using the screen on the back of the camera. Also, if using an external monitor in place of a wireless tablet I can see no reason why this would disable the touch screen. In any case my camera will be here tomorrow, so I'll be happy to test out different scenarios. On an interesting note: After comparing some stills that I found online from the 1DX Mkii taken at ISO 12800, to stills taken with my A7Rii @ 10k ISO, I have to say I found the stills from the Canon to be much clearer. I honestly did not expect this. But in all truth I seldom push the Sony to such high ISO... I was however disappointed. I plan to recheck the images tonight and I will be doing testing to compare the two models.

Unfortunately I don't have the wi-fi module, so that could be the problem? I just have my SmallHD 502 plugged into the HDMI on the 1DX II. For some reason, the touch screen is disabled once the monitor is plugged in. I've delved into the settings and can't seem to find anything to turn the rear lcd screen back on. Definitely let me know if you have better luck once you receive yours. Stoked to hear that the ISO performance is looking better on the 1DX over the A7. Were the stills RAW or JPGs? On the original 1DX, the high ISO performance was atrocious..

Yes, they are using the remote app and controlling and viewing from a tablet. Notice the camera has the wireless module attached (the small grey adapter on the side of the camera).

Is there any way around this that you know of? I'd like to be able to use my monitor and still be able to touch focus on the back.

  4. Andrew, have you managed to play with any other uploaded profiles on your 1DC? Surely someone can unlock a lovely LOG setting, or even snatch C-log from the 1DC. Possible?

Move seen a few "EOS Movie" vids on YouTube - as standard seems to look like much clearer and detailed 5D mk III footage with a bit better dynamic range. Definitely needs a proper lovely profile for us cinematic nuts!

    +1

  5. I'll let Andrew chime in but pro res 422 and pro res hq are both 10 bit codecs 4:2:2 - the difference is the bit rate. So grading is not much different unless it is fast-paced motion or tons of motion like filming water.

But do a test to see yourself - process one clip.

The big thing is to make sure you have the NX1 set up to output at the proper light level - so that editready doesn't export a crushed-black pro res file.

Thank you! I set the Luminance Level to "16-235".. Is that what you're talking about?

If I'm shooting some scenes at 120fps, then I guess I should convert it to ProRes HQ?

  6. Andrew, I ended up purchasing an NX1 a couple weeks ago to compliment my C100 after reading many of your articles on your site and watching your tests on Vimeo. Today, I just purchased EditReady.. I just wanted to know which video format would you recommend converting to? ProRes 422 or ProRes422 (HQ)?
