Hello, I read your GH5 review and it sounds like this update will be a good one.

I read that you felt like the autofocus improvements didn't really improve that much to where you would shoot video with autofocus. I am wondering about face tracking in video. With the current GH5 firmware 1.0 I am using, it's completely broken. It puts the box on your face, but does not focus at all when recording.

I have found the best autofocus settings right now are 1 area, with custom settings: +5 speed and +3 sensitivity.

Does the face tracking now work in the gh5 2.0 firmware?

Asking because I have my girlfriend film me a lot and am not looking forward to teaching her manual focus. But have been contemplating that.

Right now I just leave it on autofocus and have her press in the shutter button halfway.

I use MF and touch to focus, works very well.

  2. Good question.....I deliver work for a US organisation. All their material is NTSC based, so I could deliver 25fps or 24fps but the IQ would take a hit. This way they get a compatible frame rate. Being able to deliver 30p is an essential part of my workflow.

I always understood that the GH3 was strictly regional, but it seems not..... Also the reverse scenario is true for an NTSC body. Using the 48% setting should allow one to deliver 50 or 25fps (24/.48 = 50)

  3.

Normally, the industrial division of a company would be loathe to see their features in consumer cameras.  But for Panasonic, a loss of leadership in consumer video, where they're strongest, would put questions in professionals minds about their high end cameras.

I'm not so sure, I thought the pro cameras had all sorts of connections, like SDI, XLR etc that no GH3 or GH4 is ever going to have.

  4. I've been searching the internet for a way to get 30fps out of a PAL GH3 and I think I have found it. Now I am wondering if this is common knowledge or maybe I'm barking mad.....

I made an 80% recording using the 24p MOV setting. In Compressor I conform the footage at 30p and reduce the duration by 80%.

I now have a clip that runs at 30p (I did try 29.97, but that ran out of sync after a minute).

I made a test with separate sound, filming my clapper app on the iPad. It was displaying the timer so I could compare footage against the clock. The clapper syncs perfect over several claps.

Anyways, ignore me if this is common knowledge!
