  1. I wonder if the improved MFT lens support means they finally managed to get non-physical-switch OIS to work? Glass half full kind of guy right here.

In case you missed it, Kristian Lam (from BM) posted this (http://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=20956):

    Hi

We are working on an update that is in testing and already with some beta testers.

    This next updates includes:

    1. New debayering for shooting directly to ProRes or DNxHD on the Blackmagic Cinema Camera

    2. Improved MFT lens support on the Pocket Cinema Camera.

    3. RAW support on the Production Camera 4K.

    4. Autofocus support for EF lenses on Blackmagic Cinema Camera EF and Production Camera 4K

This release should be out within a month's time from today.

Great I guess. To be honest I posted stating that I'm a glass half full kind of guy but I think not mentioning this at the beginning of today kind of backfired. The forum is going nuts.

  3. Probably style over substance, Superheadz, who endorse the camera also produce the Harinezumi, a digital and SD Super8 camera, which also came in a limited Chinon edition, very lo-fi, charming and not cheap at all:

    http://www.acgears.com/home-office/digital-cameras/superheadz-digital-harinezumi-4

Most people these days use a Super8 smartphone app for the same effect, which works rather fine, considering that most reversal film only has about 7 stops of dynamic range.

As for the look, there is a also a certain resemblance with the Fujica Single 8 cameras, the popular an better quality 8mm format in Japan and only Japan:

    https://www.google.de/search?q=fujica+single+8&safe=off&client=firefox-a&hs=VzO&rls=org.mozilla:de:official&channel=sb&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=NlYPU-a5Ncjoswb1rIHoCA&ved=0CC8QsAQ&biw=1271&bih=764

In terms of the sensor, the size maybe closer to 8mm that Super8 / Single 8, since most of these cameras came with  non-interchangeable zoomlenses, where as many 8mm cameras had small interchangeable prime lenses, that will in many cases not cover Super8. Pricing as I have read on various websites, probably all based on the one (wrong) source, is around 830$:

So not cheap at all. I would hardly expect any fancy codecs or even raw, but rather an implemantation of a popular consumer codec. This is more of a toy than a pro-tool I guess.

$160 isn't too bad for something imported and kitchy. I'm kind of questioning the $800 range ... starting to get into DSLR territory... hopefully that price is wrong... or maybe it does RAW ... we'll see. I want to see footage. The Superheadz Facebook page is starting to post about it

  4. This might be cool. Same guys who brought the Digital Harinezumi which is quite popular

  5. A 4K GH4 would be an interesting toe in the 4K market for Panasonic, and give them a valuable impression of real world demand for a semi-pro 4K camera which also has cross over appeal with consumers.

Panasonic tend to skip 4 as it is an unlucky number in Japanese culture but Nikon don't (hence D4).

I think the 4K era is as good a time as any to lose the fear of 4!

Does that mean we get an extra iteration of bug fixes if they skip to 5? ;)

  6. I'm not sure how I feel about this - and I'm not trying to debate - I want to like my GH3 but I would love something focused entirely on filming rather than a hybrid - at times it does feel like some features were rushed or compromised: 4:2:2? Focus peaking? The all intra seems unusable in the hint of low light, I'm also waiting for a "decent" firmware update.

I would also like to see improvements on the user experience - the camera UI has a lot of segregated options, both in the software, and physical; this might be me but if you're in a rush to shoot, there's a lot of precheck.

The video mentions their dedication on broadcast quality so I hope that's a hint. Regardless, I'm excited to see what this news is about in a couple of weeks
