Man, the V6x lenses from canon almost cover the MFT sensor! I just got the V6X18 18-108mm f1.6 in today, here is a test shot at 18mm f1.6 on a Panasonic GF3 with the crop lined out.... at 108mm i can say it barely, and I mean BARELY vignettes on the MFT at all.

here is a test of the canon v6x16 regular mode... I discovered the hard way ETC mode seems tu suck for me in lowlight or indoors... everything looks a bit grainy on my GH3 compared to FD lenses on regular mode... no sweat though, I scored 1 for $22 so its not bad, and when I get the BMPC i'll be ready and good to go with 2 lenses (I got also a V6x18 so... :p)

well? I found a lens in a security camera store that will work in ETC mode , but won't work with the BMPC. its the RCA TV Lens 8mm f1.6. Its a one trick pony. paid $25 so it wasnt a terrible find. only has 1 single aperture adjustment but it will focus properly on a GH3. If anybody has a CCTV security or Spy camera shoppe near you? I highly recommend hitting those stores. The guy had a tokina tv zoom lens 12.5 -70mm f2.5 for $75, maybe i'll go back and get it.

I think this might be a good option as well. they make FD to M43 adapters now, and with the old FD's the iris is fully manual. I also have some old nikkor lenses (Non AIs) that might open another world of possiblities, as some of the older lesnes are not as expenssive as the newer ones....

Here is a video with some FD lenses on the GH2, and since these lenses were made for full frame, there shouldnt be any issues mounting on the BMPC.

It won't work on the Pocket, right? I'm guessing it's for 2/3 sensors but I can't find any info on the web. Also, what mount is that?

I intend to return it and get the right lens, though, but I wondered how far they missed from what I originally paid for...

EDIT: I checked, it's a B4 mount, and it's most probably for 2/3". I'd like to also use this lens on my GH2, and that's a no-no if I don't want to use EX-TELE (you have to enable it to use your Fujinon lenses, don't you andy lee?). The Variogon is a nice lens on the GH2 even though it vignettes a bit. I want it...

That seems to be a B4 mount. I know tamron made some lenses for sony that did cover the 1 inch sensors like this one:

but i think the one you got is for a 2/3 censor as B4 is normally associated with either 2/3 or 1/2 inch sensors. you will have to use it on the GH models with the ETC mode, and it will be completely useless on a BMPC (unless you like vignetting).

I think the only way you can use B3/B4 lenses on the gh2 or 3 without engaging ETC mode is if you get (and use) the ones that have the 2x extender in the back. Most of those B4 lenses have it built in (big black block looking thing in the rear with a switch, like on the video where the guy is doing a light test) If they dont have it? then your only other option is to go to ETC mode in the GH2 like he illustrates.

Advantage of using the 2x extender? it covers the sensor, duplicates your lens to a bigger range. Draw back, your aperture doubles as well, but, if you use the ETC mode which is nothing more than a digital zoom your lens image doubles, but your aperture doesnt (at least that my take on it, if anyone can confirm or cerrect me I'd greatly appreciate it)

Also, from what I've been reading, if you wanna be on the safe side, ger lenses that are designed for a 1 inch sensor (25mm sensors). some c mounts are 2/3, 1/2, and 1 inch sensor made. So just because its a C mount doesnt necessarily make it compatible with your sensor.

I think I am reposting something someone already posted here (ve been doing too much reading on the subject and I cant remember where I read it! HAHAHA) but here is a good source to know if the canons, fujinons and others have the right sensor format.

Another thing to consider, in some cases, using it with wide open aperture will not look sharp, most of what I've read and seen shows that even at f1.7 some lenses look really hazy, but if you stop them down to f2 (some 2.8 or higher) they are as sharp a knife. I just ordered a Canon V16x16 (no 2x extender, scored that one for $22 because the electrical motor that adjusts the iris gears were broken, but since ithey wont work anyways I plan on gutting that part out) I plan on getting the adapter and taking it with me to an expo next weekend. Black Magic is going to have a booth there, so Im going to ask them to test it out see what happens...

I was curious about B3/ B4 lenses with 2x extenders. Ive seen people use them on the GH2/GH3 and they are mostly made for 2/3 sensors. they will work with the GH models, but if you effectively engage the 2x estender built on the lens it makes it double the coverage and double the aperture. So, a 16-100 f1.7 will be a 32-200 f3.4... so low light shooting might be an issue....I wonder how much of the BMPC sensor gets covered by that lens with the adapter without having to go into the 2x extender mode?

Another advantage of the B4 lenses from what Ive read, is that you have a parfocal lens that will maintain focus throughout the entire zoom range (and aperture does not decrease) and, with the right cable and battery pack you can use the power zoom on the lens (wild, isn't it?) Iris and focus is still manual, but I kinda like it that way.

And... the b4 lenses have macro and back focusing, so you can adjust your focusing to infinity even if you have some issues with the adapter...

The only advantage of the B3 adapter is that the B3 lenses will work on canon APS-C sensors as well. Im looking to buy a BMPC but I already have a T3i, I may alltogether sell it and switch to GH3, as I am looking to do more video work than photography, but since I have a bunch of lenses (FD and EF, EF-S lenses) Im kind of hessitant if I can figure out a way to get some good zoom lenses that I can actually interoperate with both cameras.

Im about to pull the trigger and get new gear, so if anybody has any advice or info on these lenses or actually have one and have a picture they can share of it to see how it will scale on the sensor of the BMPC i'd greatly appreciate it.
