  1. Thanks for the input, guys.

The Polaroid screen seems to be a nice investment for the future. I am not going to work with multiple monitors like leeys mentioned, so a 2,5K screen might be the best option. Is the Apple 27'' Thunderbolt screen the best option in that case? Or are there other (Apple) screens on the market which are interesting too?

  2. Hi there,

I'm about to switch to a brand new Mac Pro for my video editing work.

My current system has problems with editing my Panasonic GH4's 4K footage.

    The question is:

Which screen is the best option for me (<€1.500) ? I heard about some affordable 4K screens (like the Samsung UHD 28'' monitor), but they might have some teething troubles.  What about the Apple Thunderbolt display? (although it is not a 4K monitor).

What would you guys do? Cheers!

  3. If Jnorman34 don't mind, I would like to use this topic for my own dilemma:

Since my current configuration has problems with editing 4K footage, I would like to switch to a better configuration.

I am thinking about buying the new Mac Pro (fast workflow, futureproof). The only thing is: i use Sony Vegas for my edits, and Sony Vegas is not available for Mac.

So I need to install Windows on my new Macbook. Questions:

    • Are there any downsides on installing Windows on my Mac Pro?
    • What is the best workflow (Bootcamp,Parallels?) for installing Windows on the Mac Pro?

Hope to hear from you! Thanks in advance.

  4. Thanks for your comments!

External recording is not really an option for me since I would like to stay mobile on location.

The point is that, when shooting interviews with my GH4 the mic levels reach the red levels all the time. So I set the mic level adj (in camera) to -6 dB or even -12 dB. The mic levels didn't reach the red area anymore, but my audio sounds less 'rich'. I've made a comparison of an interview with my GH2 and my new GH4 (same external mic). See and listen:

The recorded sound on my GH2 sounds much 'richer', do you agree?

    I just tried the following:

GH4 mic level adj: 0 dB

    Sennheiser ew 122-p G3: 0 dB

    But: mic level limiter ON

Now my audio levels hardly reach the red area and sounds 'richer'. Is this the best solution for me? What do you guys think?

    Thanks in advance.

  5. Hi there,

I'm testing the GH4 with my Sennheiser MKE 400 external mic.

It seems that my recorded audio is not loud enough. The audio level monitor on the GH4's screen barely comes to the center of the audio level monitor.

    I have a few questions:

    • How can I get my audio recorded much louder?
    • I've already set the mic level to +6dB. Is it safe to use this setting anyway?

    Thanks in advance!

  6. Hi Ebrahim,

    Thanks for your quick response!

    1. Is this because of the slow internet connection of some users, which makes 1080p more suitable for online purposes because its playback is more user-friendly?

    2. Clear.

    3. Clear.

    Additional question:

When u want the best possible image of your 4K footage on Vimeo: should you render as 4K or 1080P?

  7. Hi guys,

My GH4 arrived yesterday and I have some practical questions about how to deal with 4K files regarding clients:

    • When the client uses the video for online purposes (Vimeo/YouTube): would you guys recommend to supply the orginal 4K resolution file? Or scale it down to 1080p first? (in terms of quality, playback etc.)
    • When the client uses the video for offline purposes: I guess it depends on the system they wanna use for the playback of the video, right?
    • When using 4K mode and slow-motions (1080p) in the same videoproduction. Should you render in 4K or 1080p?

Hope to hear from you! Thanks in advance.

  8. Hi Francisco,

Thanks for your reply. I did not used any filter with this combination. I even got this result when i point my camera at a television at the other side of my living room. Not an overexposed shot at all, but the 'ghost' is there again. Besides that, lots of people captures light rays with this combination and nobody seems to have problems with it. Hope that somebody can help me out.
  9. Hi guys,

I've bought a FD to M4/3 adapter on Ebay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/230565436946?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649) and i've also bought a Canon 50mm FD 1.4 lens.

I tested this combination today, but sometimes when i film certain angles i get green artifacts. I'm wondering what the problem is. I have attached some pictures of the construction on my GH2 body (above) and the earlier mentioned artifacts (below).

I hope that somebody can help me out. Cheers!

  10. Hi there,

I'm currently only filming with my GH2, but i would like to film my interviews with two camera's. The second camera will be my Canon 550D. Now i'm looking for a lens which gives me a nice DoF and is suitable for my GH2 and my 550D. My budget for this lens is around $150.

Is the Canon FD f/1.4 50mm the lens an option? Which adapter do i need to make it fit with my GH2 and my 55D?

My knowledge on this area is quite limited, so some questions might be foolish :)

    Thanks in advance!

  11. If you're looking for run-n-gun cheapy solution, look up the Z-96 LED light.  Either on fleabay or amazon, should be about $80.  Produces great light, can use AA or Sony F batteries for extended run times.  Bright, mounts on the hotshoe, and if you buy multiple you can link them together (although not too stable).

I red a lot about these led lights. Seems to be popular. The CN-70 LED could be an affordable option. I'm really curious about your findings! I hope more guys want to share their light equipment in this topic.
