1. I have quite a bit of experience with EF lenses and 2x crop, with the GH2. EF 85mm F1.2L becomes a super fast telephoto, the likes of which is virtually impossible without huge expensive optics on full frame. 35mm F2 EF works well as an all-purpose medium-close-up lens, with a lovely shallow depth of field. Samyang 35mm video DSLR version has de-clicked aperture ring for run & gun. 11-16mm Tokina F2.8 covers your wide angle stuff. 11mm will be roughly 24mm on it. It is a fantastic lens and hardly any distortion in the centre crop. It is designed for a 1.5x crop sensor. That covers all the options really. Yes it is a shame specialist stuff like LOMO OCT18 and rangefinder glass (also Nokton 25mm F0.95) won't adapt but you will still have a GH3 for that.
 2. The GH2 isn't discontinued. The 14-140 kit likely is. I don't recommend that lens anyway for most people. Grab the body only and choose the lens separately. Panasonic officially say the GH2 will be in production until October when GH3 is due. I've seen this info on an official Panasonic slide.
 3.
$3000 in the U.S. and probably £3200 in the UK >:(
Wrong - £2400. I just ordered at CVP. Links are on the Black Magic Design site.

 5.
The reason the video is soft is 2432 Bayer photosites means about 2432/2 = 1216 de-Bayered pixels vs 1920 from 3840 Bayer photosites (C300 et al).
This is not the reason some people think John's footage looks soft. Once again just to be absolutely clear... Vimeo streaming at 7Mbit 720p is the reason.
 6.
Average vidoes yes, but remember that Vimo is streaming these at a compressed 720p.
For those looking at John's stuff, disable scaling in full screen mode. No wonder it looks soft... Believe me it isn't.
 7.
sorry, don't have time to read through all the posts.  You can pre-order already you know. Just got mine in the UK done for £1925 ex VAT!!
SSHHH!! By the way here is a 1080p frame grab http://johnbrawley.files.wordpress.com/2012/04/untitled_1-23-2.jpg Detailed, not soft. 2.5K raw will comfortably beat the FS700 and C300 for resolution.
 8.
Above: Bearing a resemblance to the Box Brownie, the BlackMagic Design Cinema Camera will be available July for $3000 For too long the big corporate giants from Japan have been neglecting a huge burgeoning demand for a true next generation filmic camera for the masses… Despite stumbling ass backwards into it in pole position. Now a company with a fraction of the resources best know for their external recording boxes (like the Hyperdeck Shuttle) BlackMagic Design has dropped a bombshell. They have entered the digital cinema market with a $3000 cinema camera that records 2.5K RAW with 13.5 stops of dynamic range to an SSD, with Thunderbolt and HD-SDI. A true next generation camera. 9. It is on Sunday. Not sure what it will bring apart from the new codec yet.
 10.
I COMPLETELY agree with Andrew. Canon should just give up on making Video Cameras. They should stick to still cameras. The entire 'C' series is bad. I guess, its High Time canon threw out its ENTIRE Design Team, and got some people with competence. Either you do it, or don't do it. At All.
Sorry Sandy but this is a ridiculous reaction to my article, which was about a lack of options at the low and mid end of the market not the high end. The Cinema EOS line are superbly designed cameras.
 11.
Do you work for Paramount Studios? If the answer is no then Canon do not any more have an appealing interchangeable lens video camera for you (or even the consumer market) under $15,000. Forget Ron Howard. This needs fixing first. 12.
It's like Canon is trying to undercut the very high end with an incredible camera that is priced drastically lower than the competition, YET they've completely FORGOT about the low to mid-end range ($3K to $8K) and the customers who bought a million 5D2 and 7D2 from them, who wanted a better camera and were willing to pay around $7k.
Yeah it is a big shift away from their core market. I would have thought a company the size of Canon could focus on more than one market at once.
Download the firmware here Atomos have released a firmware update for the Ninja ProRes recorder to make it Nikon D800 certified. It is now able to obtain a true native 24p progressive feed from the Nikon D800! No more interlaced. They say quality in this mode is very good. I don’t yet have a D800 (or the Ninja!) so can’t test this for myself but if any readers are willing to give this a go, be my guest. 14. This camera just isn't for us. Let's see how the guys at NAB accept it. What I am more interested from Canon next is a proper interchangeable lens prosumer camera with large sensor around the $3000 mark, or a video optimised consumer DSLR / mirrorless camera. This is sorely needed. I'm pretty happy with my FS100 and GH2 right now to say the least! Canon just can't compete with those two. The FS100 only cost me £2700 and the GH2 £600!
 15.
Hey Andrew, I just bought your anamorphic e-book guide.  What a treat!  I had no idea the possibilities these lenses could provide.  I actually own the Panasonic LA7200 from my DVX100 days.  Is the only diopter that works still the Foton +1?  Looks like that will be a challenge to find.  Also, did you ever find a way to mount in securely?  I think I'll still keep an eye out for a Iscorama 36, though.  Thanks! Erick
One person I saw had found a way to secure it with a single bolt through the bracket on the Foton to clamp it to the LA7200, but the details are scant - I've just seen photos. I've also heard the Cokin P stuff fits the LA7200 pretty well. I gave up on diopters and the LA7200 because I have 2 Iscoramas which I use more often. I might revisit it soon!

 17. I'd go for a small chip camcorder with AF for the whole match coverage, and a DSLR for some cut-in artistic shots. GH2 would be good for that. 600D can't record for longer than 12 min at a time. As for camcorder - Canon XF305.
 18. Codec orgasm. Haha
I don't think Sony will do it because they're like Canon with high end cameras to protect. The only hope is Panasonic and Nikon. Too bad Panasonic is stuck with 4/3:(
Sony are doing it, they put it in an official statement today. Here comes the business speak "Sony is also drawing on its comprehensive strengths in audio and visual technologies to aggressively promote the growth of "4K" technology, which delivers more than four times the resolution of Full HD. Incorporation of Sony-developed technologies, such as image sensors, image processing compression LSIs and high-speed optical transmission modules into its professional-use and high-end consumer products will pave the way for Sony to continue to expand and enrich its 4K-compatible product lineup."

Unless they change their specs or update it in firmware. It's not even an oversight, it's a complete lack of understanding or who would buy and use this camea. Sony have my money for the forseable future.
I think the press release is worded for the American market. This can't be true about 25p. Canon have always released world-cams which are PAL / NTSC.
It should at least be fixable, just one more frame a second, but really, a european press release to film makers for a 4k camera that can't be used by them - is beyond ridiculous.
Confirmed, it is 25p only in 1080p. You're right and I think ridiculous does describe it pretty well.
 20. Have updated the article. Price is indeed a whopping $15,000 like C300. And for Europe, Russian and Asia - three quarters of the world - 25p is only in 1080p not 4k! Insane!
Have you ever known a company more cynical?  The 1D C is basically another $8k for a firmware upgrade and a headphone jack on top of the $7k 1D X. 24.
The Sony NXCAM NEX FS100 is the first ever video camera which is competitive with DSLRs on both price and image quality. Yes it took this long! Now down to $4000 used (£2600) in the US, it is an alternative (for video) to the 5D Mark III at $3500 or £2999. 25.
They can charge whatever they want, there is no competition at all. Full frame is not the same as super 35 or Micro 4/3rds you can't compare products. Saying they need to price against Sony is like saying the 1dx has to compete with the 7d price wise. The Panasonic and Sony cameras get absolutely slaughtered in low light and I have little doubt this camera will continue the trend.
This isn't quite correct. Competition - Sony have announced they are going to be pushing 4K to rehabilitate their flagging TV business. They are going to put 4K in consumer devices like their full frame SLT camera. It may still not be a product aimed at cinematographers but it is certainly competitive. Panasonic and Sony in low light? The FS100 is better than the 5D Mark III's video mode in low light. Panasonic have yet to show their hand with a recent generation large sensor video camera but the GH2 does very well in low light for the price. Then there is Nikon - showing a VERY keen interest in DSLR video at the moment, and rounding up a bunch of influential pros to seek advice for improvements on future DSLRs.
