EOSHD Intra-esting

A very intra-esting patch indeed!! Profit from the benefits of better motion with this intra-frame codec patch. 88Mbit AVCHD Intra – no extreme bitrates so you can record for more than 4 seconds!! Image quality hardly any different to 176Mbit AVCHD Intra. (24L falls back to 35Mbit for ultimate reliability).

EOSHD RoadRunner

Beep beep!! Makes full use of the GH2′s very fast 3 core processor. 120Mbit 1080/24p AVCHD at speeds faster than a speeding coyote with 44Mbit on the in-camera 24L setting to fall back if you encounter reliability issues with the lens stopped down to extremes. Includes the EOSHD Anamorphic43 patch for MJPEG mode.
This version is new and was initially based on research by the excellent Chris Brandin (author of the StreamParser software for analysing GH2 video files). I’ll be updating the RoadRunner patch in the near future as the hack progresses and the next update will appear here.

EOSHD Vanilla

A basic vanilla high bitrate patch, 44Mbit and a nice step up from factory settings. 99% reliable.

- High bitrate AVCHD 1080/24p
- Increase the maximum ISO limit to 12,800
- Enable all menu languages on Japanese GH2
- Removes the 30 minute clip recording limit on European GH2
EOSHD Anamorphic 2.66:1
This patch is included in all the above settings. It affects the VGA mode of MJPEG in creative movie mode, supercharging it to 80Mbit 1920×720 2.66:1 straight off the card (no de-squeeze required in post). Designed for 2x anamorphic lenses.
A note on quantizer settings
I tested the quantizer related AVCHD settings but simply did not see how they benefit the image. Therefore they are not included in my patches. I did side by side comparison shots with various quantizer and auto-quantizer settings (such as AQ2, AQ4) but in all shooting conditions they made no noticeable difference either positive or negative.
