Nikon ultra small mirrorless specs revealed in patent, YouTube goes 4K

Nikon patents in Japan have been decoded at NikonRumors.com and relate to (you guessed it) a mirrorless camera system.

The system is not APS-C based like the Sony NEX or Samsung NX10 and Nikon are not joining Micro 4/3rd’s. Instead they are set to produce the smallest possible interchangeable lens camera, with 49mm lens barrels (think filter thread size of the Olympus EP1 kit lens).

Nikon finally ‘doing a GH1’

Nikon’s president has announced that the company are working on a ‘new concept camera’ which will feature improved video capabilities.

Makoto Kimura told Bloomberg in an interview yet to be fully published, that the company will introduce a Panasonic GH1 competitor with “enhanced function for video recording” (Makoto’s own words)

Nikon – sleeping giant, soon to come on board the video train?

According to NikonRumors.com there are new signs today that the sleeping giant has finally recognised the demand for video in HDSLRs and will begin a push to implement and market it – properly. Until now, Nikon have had a very poor implementation of video mode on their DSLR cameras despite being first to the market with it!
