a german video news site passed questions from their readers on to the sony guys at IBC, some replies were:

- rolling shutter is the same as a7s, same sensor, only stabilized

- slow motion (120fps) is 1:1 sensor cropped HD, crop factor 2.2

Not saying this has to be true, but it could be.

That makes sence. Had they improved roling shutter it would have been plastered all over.

The A7rII will keep me warm for now :p

Thanks for the input

lol, yeah because readout is dependent only on the sensor.  Everyone on this forum knows more than most of the people they have working at those show booths.

If the second fact is correct then it completely contradicts sonys own press release.

Copied from here http://***URL removed***/articles/3339099295/sony-a7s-ii-shoots-up-to-iso-409-600:

"In a first for the α7 series, the α7S II can record 120fps at 100Mbps[vii] with full pixel readout without pixel binning in full frame format which can be edited into wonderful 4x/5x slow motion footage[viii] in Full HD."

If the press release is correct then the camera can do a full pixel readout in 8.33ms (1000/120).  And I dont see why they would slow it down when recording 4k.

Improving the rolling shutter from 32 to 8 msec is quite an achievement and if true I find hard to believe they forgot to advertise.

Now the interviewer might be wrong, expressing his own beliefs  or the translation bad, but here is another part from that article:

"For the recording time is limited only by a possible overheating or the European 29 minutes limit"

1. No crop 4K

2. 2 stops better than A7rii (FF / S35 ?)

3. Rolling shutter same as A7rii (FF / S35 ?)

4. Overheating same as A7rii (FF / S35 ?)

5. color science same as A7rii (improved over A7s) other than slog3/sgamut3.

6. Assisted gamma. Something like lut. This is very nice when trying to set exposure and wb.

7. 1600 for slog3, 3200 for slog2

theres a lot of good things here in the a7s2. that being said my priorities for Things to Fix on the Original A7s, in order, are:

• COLOR

• rolling shutter

* etc...

That magenta for red?

Apart Slog3, IBIS and internal 4K (a7RII only Slog2), what else for new? With no mention lower stills resolution.

Hold on kaylee, better to bet on the a7RII.

Still don't understand the purpose of making another camera that can't shoot for over 20-30min w/o overheating. *shakes head*

Sony's plan cannot get any clearer:

Get an A7rii for high res stills,

then an A7sII for low light video,

then an FS5/7 for actual work,

and next year start all over again.

We don't know that it will overheat in that time, if at all.  We do know that it will stop at 30 minutes because of the tax limitation.  Though for over 3000 euros you think some of that would go towards paying a video camera duty.

and an rx10m2 as a slomo/b cam right??? lol ? smh ?

regarding my comment: whether this implementation of slog3 proves to improve color vs slog2 dramatically within this 8 bit output remains to be seen; ill be watching carefully. ive read a lot about slog3, but have never been convinced by my eyes at all. i want to believe.

show me~!

/im agnostic at best about both the cameras you mentioned as a hybrid shooter. the aesthetic of sensor size not withstanding, these cameras have NOT blown away a gh4 yet for video imo. they will soon enough if sony keeps running their own models out of business with rapid updates, buttt.... its about priorities

sony can barely write a press release. i work for a tech company *cough* that "gets" photography more than they do....... and im buying a note 5 ?

imo theres some big ideas getting lost in the details

The A7S2 is max worth half of the A7R2.  Compared the A7S2 has lots of disadvantages, for example it's not a usable pro photo camera.  And there are no advantages, as for example anything above ISO 25.600 is not usable anyway.  Needing super extreme lowlight is as rare as using a Nikon D810a because of it's Astro features.  This makes the A7S2 a super specialist camera, with just one focal range.  The A7R2 does not only have 2 crop modes, with the internal clear zoom in S35 mode it will have an extended range using 15 to 8MP of the sensor.  You literally get a 400/2.8 for free with that camera if you own a 200/2.8, which makes the 42MP sensor fantastic not only for stills.  The combination of an A7R2 and RX100 IV is far better than anything else Sony has to offer.
