Cool! I don't know of any cameras that have the same amount of noise at 5000 ISO as 800 ISO. I wonder how it compares to the C300/500 and FS7/F5 when both set to 800ISO and 5000ISO. These cameras are also very sensitive just by using normal gain, so this comparison would tell us if there's a point of this sensor technology.

This camera is way out of my league but it would be great if this camera delivers and becomes popular in high end market.

I think the best way for companies is to implement newest technology into most expensive high end products and make a profit, and is then cheaper some time later for them to implement most of that technology into mid range and lower end products, similar to how automobile industry works. I think this is the reason why Sony FS7 is not so expensive for what it is.

So far Panasonic show that they care about our enthusiast wallets  :) , so I hope this will be the case with their new mid and lower end video cameras and that is the only reason why I'm interested in VariCam.

Agreed. It's hard to say from the video because it's a video of a video... but iso 4000 (with gain applied from base iso) looks bad on this camera. On a A7S for example iso values like that are perfectly usable.

Interesting technique though.

Yes it looks pretty horrible at 4000 ISO, like 20.000 ISO or so on a C300 or an F5. But at 5000 ISO it looks great, like these cameras, maybe even cleaner, there's very little noise there apparently. But also these cameras allow for using clean in between ISOs not just two clean ones and a punch of horrible ones.

I think it depends on how 800 ISO is clean vs the 800 on the C300/F5, if it's just as clean at this setting as those cameras, and that 5000 ISO is just as clean as 800 ISO, this will have a huge 2.5 stops advantage over the competition, in which all introduce a huge amount of noise by pushing from 800 to 5000.

Two native ISOs on sensor level with 800=5000, pretty exciting technology to be honest if it delivers in real life.

I just bumped onto this video and it was actualy shot in probably the most beautiful place in my country (Plitvice Lakes National Park). It was shot in raw and the image is stunning (of course beauty of the place helps a lot), colors and skintones look very natural and organic to me. I really think that this camera can easily compete with Arri image wise. Enjoy some camera porn :)
