It apparently will be called the ZV-E or ZV-E1 and seems to essentially be an A7Siii in the rangefinder-ish body of the A7c.

The following specs are from rumour sites so take with a pinch of salt but if this is accurate then it will be an interesting release.

  • 12MP sensor from the Sony a7s III
  • 4k 60p and 4k 120p video (no crop)
  • Max ISO of 409,600
  • No pixel binning
  • AF from a7R V, but it has even better detection
  • New AI features
  • Priced expected to be under $2,500
  • 4k 120p could come later with a firmware update

EOSHD Pro Color 5 for Sony cameras EOSHD Z LOG for Nikon CamerasEOSHD C-LOG and Film Profiles for All Canon DSLRs

Sounds bonkers good.

Of course being a Sony, it won’t have any ‘pro’ video features, but that spec in a ZV1 size body?!

It will also have the inevitable side hinge screen but if it had a tilt…

Mechanical or electronic only?

Sounds like it'll sit between the A7C and FX3.

Probably the A7C form factor but no EVF?

Not expecting a mechanical shutter. I reckon they will go all electronic like Sigma Fp and FX30.

Would prefer if they give it a similar body and ergonomics to FX3 and FX30, but it being more a ZV range vlogging camera I expect it to be more of a rebadged A7C with the A7S III sensor.

That will be. Still amazing that they will offer the A7sIII sensor..

There is a crazy rumor also

"A7sIV will be announced in Q3/Q4 2023

6k sensor that offers raw video and oversampled 4k video with no crops

The highest dynamic range ever on any alpha camera"

Well the A7S III has been out a while now hasn't it? Is it 3 years? Crazy.

So they're not exactly putting the latest tech in it. You can get a used A7S III for around $3K too don't forget, although $2500 for this new is a very decent deal if it turns out to be ergonomically well designed and with some new advances.

A7S IV I am sure will be 8K not 6K. The current sensor in the A7S3 is already actually a quad bayer, I think it is 48 megapixels binning to 12. They'll probably use the same sensor! Just open up the 8K mode and keep the 12 megapixel as a 4K mode / low light mode.

They could also do a HDR trick with quad bayer.

As is already present on smartphones with quad bayer sensors.

There is simply no way Sony is releasing an A7S3/FX3 in a A7C body for $2500.

Agreed. Too much to cannibalize there. Even with the ver 2 firmware, the FX3 is still too close to the A7siii for Sony to leapfrog it. Anything that affects the A7siii will also affect the FX3.

And just as expected here is the first major Sony cripple hammer spec:

Some testers also gave me a first feedback on this camera:

New ZV-E1 E-mount camera is based on the Sony As7III

Same A7sIII 12 Megapixel sensor

4k60 & 4k 120 (no crop). But it appears 120p might be coming later via firmware update

no pixel binning

409k ISO

AF from a7r V but it has even better detection

Body overheats a lot at the moment

Lots of new AI features, very innovative

Similar body style of the ZV-E10, but in the size of the Sony A7c and with some FX3 elements

Price slightly below $2,500

Announcement on March 29, 3pm London time

i.e. $2499 / 2799€

That's actually super expensive for a camera that overheats a lot in 2023.

Vloggers won't care because they shoot 30 seconds clips max at a time.

Come to think of it this will be the perfect TikTok camera for rich Asian kids.

I bet you the new AI features will be right up their alley too..

Wonder which camera will last longer at 4k60P, the og R6 or this new Sony cam?

Dunno but keep in mind the R6 does 4K60p no crop in 10-bit Clog.

And for $2500 you could buy a R6 mk2 that pretty much mitigates overheating. And has EVF, IBIS, dual card slots etc.

This ZV cam is going to be a hard sell outside of its intended Vlog market. Expect a full frame version of the ZV-E10:

Sure it was a big planetary hit at $700 for an APS-C Vlog MILC. I just dunno if a $2500 full frame version is what the market is asking right now but what do I know. It's basically the reverse strategy of releasing the FX3 then FX30. Weird. An A7C mk2 with A7S3 sensor would have made more sense imo.
