You can count on one hand (with fingers left over!) the current cinema available with a global shutter.

It is zero surprise, and zero deal breaker, when a camera is released without a global shutter. That's normal.

A fast readout is an expectation these days at least for me. Yes not global shutter but fast enough where it's not noticeable is somewhat important. Its becoming a reality with the RED Komodo and FX6/A7S3, I hope the trend continues.

~$4,000 for a camera without global shutter? Wow.

I really don't know many people that care about global shutter anymore. It used to be something we all dreamed about but read out speeds have increased dramatically that it's not even a concern for most people. What are you filming that needs a global shutter?

Yeah honestly I've never really noticed rolling shutter outside of flash photography at weddings. The one time I've noticed it is shooting out of a moving car, stuff can get slanted 😂

In my opinion the A7S3 is the best camera you can buy on a price / quality / features ratio. It's so versatile and really fun to shoot with. You can focus more on the story and worry less about the gear.

Honestly, I think it's one of the best releases we've seen in terms of cameras, ever.

It speaks volumes about how many people moaned about the camera being "too safe" - what? They absolutely smashed it and gave us way more than expected. Do people want the camera to fry their eggs too? 😂

They need to merge the cameras completely, get the EVF flipping up, increase the screen size and deliver an even more robust and sexy 4k image. That will be the one.

Agreed. I really like shooting with the a7sIII, it just makes getting the shot so effortless and I love the image. Handling is the best of any Sony body to date. They nailed the ergos. I added the smallrig cage and Nitze top handle - overall its a nice little package that's easy to add a monitor, mics or whatever. Class leading AF, low rolling shutter, 10-bit color, great in low light, and 120fps is everything I need in a camera. Its great handheld, on sticks or on a gimbal.

I do wish Sony would get the WB in custom modes sorted since I have my 1/2/3 set for fast switching between 24/60/120p. Internal ND's and a bigger/brighter LCD would be nice on a beefed up FX3 - maybe a FX4?

I've used it a lot since it was released, I'm still really happy with the camera and not lusting after anything else for video - except maybe the a1 since I shoot a lot of stills and would love 50mp LOL! Looking forward to what the a7IV brings as the a7III is now mostly for photo's and my b-cam or backup to the a7sIII.

@Matins 2 and now you know what the cost of a high quality global shutter cinema camera can be.

Good news for you though, their price has dropped massively on eBay! You might pick one up now for only sub US$5K with some luck. (then start adding on all the costs of all the extras...)

Or here is a Sony SRW-9000PL for sub US$4K:

Actually, I'll start being serious for a moment, as I just noticed how much the Sony F55 (global shutter!) have continued to drop. You can get one here for just US$5.5K: https://www.ebay.com/itm/124658333277
And if you'd prefer an OLED viewfinder instead, here is another Sony F55 for only slightly more: https://www.ebay.com/itm/324443097872

I'd say that a new decent CCD-based RAW-shooting camera with the size of an FX3 shouldn't have to cost tens of thousands of dollars.
