I think 95% of this forum would've preferred for Fujifilm to release the X-H2 instead.

I think that is probably too high a figure.

From my reading of posts on here, I'd put it at 89.27% max.

The distinction between the X-H1 and the X-T2 was wide enough when they launched it but two years on, Fujifilm would have to do something dramatic like put RAW and TC etc in it, for an X-H2 to sit above the X-T4 in the same way.

Which would be great, of course 😉

Unlimited recording, full size HDMI, and Prores RAW would be a big start and both fairly easy implementations. Record limits are a big reason I sold my fuji along with micro HDMI. I just can't really take a camera seriously that has a 30 minute record limit, at least they could have gotten rid of it for 2k recording. Micro HDMI is unacceptable too IMHO.

The only other ask for me would be improved rolling shutter. It would be nice if the rolling shutter performance on the A7S3 and Canon R5 could be the standard going forward. The first three things I mentioned would be enough for me to buy it though.

Hi Tom

I will agree with your prores raw and full hdmi for the X-H2. X-H2 should have both , the bar has been set. Unlimited recording not really, it is not that useful in movies, if at all and you will hardly use it as an A-cam for conferences. I find your statement that you cannot take a camera seriously that has a 30 minute record limit a bit unfair , with all due respect 🙂.

I do not care that much about rolling - shutter as well, 99% of the audience will not notice or care. I kind of think that it is like those people that shoot brick walls , trying to find tangible flaws in modern lenses with modern coatings and quality assembly. There may be there somewhere but seriously , it either goes unnoticed or can be passed as artistic with some creative editing. DP's will beg to differ but then they are highly specialised individuals, trained to understand the image and as in many disciplines experts lose the forest for the tree.  I am guilty there as well.

Fuji is of course dependent on sony for their sensor , so whatever advances will come to rolling shutter are dependent on Sony and a new processing chip from Fuji. I think they could have  allowed for external raw recording on the X-T3/4 generation if it was their mandate to do so. Here is hopping for a great X-H2, since the X-H1 was a letdown and suffered from the Fuji disease of having too many lines of cameras without distinct purpose.

P.S They definitely need a more cinematic lut than Eterna , at least for the people that do not employ or are skilled colorists. And they definitely need a sensible price.

Here's the thing, kid. In the old days, when everything was cinematic, we had film cameras without 30 minute recording limits. Why, we could turn one on and have it record for a full year.

I think you will find the true figure to be somewhere between the two and around 91-92%.

But being serious, yes I'd be one of those, if only to add it as a potential future option or pass it over.

If this year had just got the fuck on with itself as it was supposed to, I wouldn't even be looking.

But it isn't. So I am. Looking.

A potential return to Fuji future with XH2 for video and XE4's for stills, or...

Stick with Panasonic, especially if a GH6 gets announced soon and if it has phase because if it doesn't, Panasonic might as well give up the camera game as the market will have gone elsewhere.

And I have to confess a new interest as of today in the 'one and done' new Sony option. Shoot 120p 4k video all day long and pull of the stills... single body, single lens, end of?

I'd rather just have got on with it but my niche within my industry is realistically looking at another year with no work and in the 15 months since the last season ended, the landscape has changed.

X-H2 is something that would actually be feasible for me to purchase, should it tick all the right boxes (unlimited recording and better IBIS please!) BUT still, this is a game changer and a sign of things to come. It should get people excited even if they'll never use one, because aside from the price it's an impressive technological feat that they've fit it in such a small body.

Innovation and pushing things forward is what interests me these days, moreso than what I'll ever actually be able to afford. It gives me something to look forward to, as innovation trickles down to the equipment I can afford or when I can purchase it used.

Wow.

Kubrick often shot with the 200ft magazine, that lasts 2.2 minutes.

My Arri 400 foot magazine lasts 4.4 minutes.

So 1 year = 90ft/min x 60min x 24hours x 365 days = a 47 million, 304 thousand foot magazine.

That’s a magazine weight of about 266,000 pounds.

Is that camera on Ebay?

It may be unfair but it's just how it is for me. I am not going to keep a Fuji around when my Panasonic cameras can do unlimited recording. I wouldn't care but its been an annoying thing to have to deal with on several shoots, enough to where I'd not warrant keeping it over a Panasonic. For weddings I had an external recorder to bypass that, but micro HDMI is too fragile. Plus record limits are just a pointless gimp. The camera is perfectly capable of recording past that, especially in 2k.

As to rolling shutter its not usually noticeable, but its nice to have low or global shutter for handheld.

I could not find one with a quick search but I am sure that all the hipster DP's would get one when it becomes available and keep it rolling for a couple of months just to prove a point 🙂.

Seriously though, if you want to record a company meeting or a convention, you get a FX or a C and call it a day. No point for mirrorless to record for hours for a documentary or a movie.. I think that we do not understand that we now have access to miracle small boxes that DP's would be salivating over 10 years ago.

Truth be told if you record weddings a C or a FX may be more suitable in the long run, but I understand your position . I do not think the cameras can record indefinitely although they run quite cool in direct sunlight.

As for the global shutter unicorn, I just do not know. I have been reading it for ages. I  remember that Fuji and Panasonic were developing an organic global sensor. Fuji is quite strange in its decision. Its lens production choices are bizarre for starters and there are too many holier than though fujistas that will not accept anything deviating from their holy cannon

Or just get a Panasonic s1 that does both along with amazing stills. You don’t have to pick and choose anymore.

overheats before the sixth month

That’s the deal breaker right there for me.

I could compromise on the rest, but I might have gone on holiday at that time and if it stopped recording while I was away for those 2 weeks...

Actually, now I think of it, that is ridiculous. Holidays and especially international travel are a thing of the past so not an issue.

How does it compare with the Panasonic G100? I’m mostly interested in vlogging.

Am skeptical the buyers of the Fujifilm GFX100S vs X-H2 would break down to a ratio of 10.73% vs 89.27%

Ah but my figures are only in response to your original statement regarding those who preferred the fact that Fujifilm released the GFX100S rather than the X-H2.

That doesn't directly correlate with the number of those which have any specific intention to purchase the GFX100S.

My study has shown that it is only 18.15% of that 10.73% who's reason for preferring Fujfilm having released the GFX100S was because it enabled them to buy one.

The remaining 81.85% of that 10.73% preferred it not to be the X-H2 as they were all Fuji X owners who had got tired of waiting for it, got out of the system and would have had seller's remorse.

😉

true true, peoples interest in a new release are totally out of whack compared to those who'd actually buy it!

As we all love to drool over the latest high end new gadget...

Anybody got an Aaton Cantar X3 I can play with? 😉

I'm looking to buy shares in a new camera company that makes cameras specially designed to take flattering pictures of people with foot injuries. Oh-limpers.

Or what was left from Olympus - now specialized in endoscopes and rectoscopes - release a special line with the motto "to see the other side".

The Olympussy.

X-E4 was an immense bummer for me - it was dumbed down all around in terms of controls, and no IBIS.

Since you are versed in Fuji, I guess that a if you take a look at the X-S10 you will be very pleased -  got one, loving the camera, as an amateur.

If I was going back to Fuji...and at this point in time, I am not, there are a couple of options I’d consider but primarily:

XT3 on sticks for video with a pair of XE4’s for stills.

But more likely, a pair of XT4’s hybrid use.

Can’t see a scenario for the XS10.

Really only interested in seeing what an XH2 might be and that other mythical beast, the Panasonic GH6.

If anything will sway me in any direction for a few years, it will probably be one of those two.

But as both are currently unicorns...
