That for sure even canon RAW are much easier to edit than 4k h265 10bit 4:2:2.

I wonder if this is Blackmagics attempts to be taken more seriously in the Video Professional World.  Perhaps they want their products to be used to the same extent as Arri Alexa, Red and even Canon for high end Professional work.  They've gone all out to impress and the specs are powerful.  

Yet, documentary filmmakers probably go with the C300 for its great AF, and feature film and TV Productions Alexa for its reliability.  2 things I have not always associated with Blackmagic.  12K will be a specialist resolution for many, and even 8K isn't on the list of requirements for most TV Companies.  

It's another case of a Camera maker pushing what is possible for a future we shall all one day enjoy.  I'd be interested in seeing some footage when this is camera is realised, though not in 12K....  Alas I'm stuck in the dark ages with just a pitiable 4K TV.  How sad is that.  😪

Exactly and Canon 8K RAW is also a lot easier to edit than HD AVCHD files I once shot in when starting out in my Business 10 years ago.  For some reason, they would often crash Premiere even though 4K H264 were relatively okay.  I'm on any bandwagon that sees camera codecs being more edit friendly.

I read you comment and most probably you are right, but RED's cameras have an incredible codec that use so less physical space that is hard to believe anyone will migrate from RED to Blackmagic, also soon we will have the new 6K RED, with autofocus, in a small package, and for less money, I think Blackmagic will not be able to catch that market.

I think for wildlife doc and things like that it could be a competition to RED at 8k 110 fps you can do slow motion you can reframe so you can have bit of margin.... let say for a cheetah hunt could be quite handy... the formfactor could be an issue as you cannot easily mount it on gimbals, drones or cineflex .

If it would have been FF and another formfactor would for sure more appealing... anyway impressive achievement imo

I give up, why why why why? Who in their camera user base asked for this hey? They read the forums and know what everyone is saying about their cameras so why don't they tackle the big  issues first, something we all really really want and will happily pay a little bit more for.

Now that rant is over. 

This was in development for a while and was scheduled for releasing before COVID got in the way. This has a place for sure and as the Ursa is their new tech development platform it's a no brainer more cameras are coming with more K's

I think there is a bit of a political move here as well. Studio execs LOVE big numbers. "Oh, that new camera is higher resolution than any other camera? I want my films shot on that". Now, I think the move away from bayer pattern for full RGB and the insane gradability this footage will likely have is in my mind worth the price. But they made a good decision being higher resolution than their competition, and rest assured this camera is not in direct competition with the A7s or S1h, its with RED and ARRI. They are making the feature film and TV industry sit up and notice them and this is a good thing.

The A7Siii one at the end of the month will likely spontaneously combust before the end of the first slide in the presentation.

I believe it has some interesting heat sink tricks up its sleeve, while maintaining weather proofing. Something Canon forgot while making their Barbeque R5 and R6.
